Anger, hate, disgust, they are all masking emotions for fear.

Homophobia is the perfect term. When you dig through the self-defensive buffalo ****, they aren't anger, or hateful, or disgusted, they're SCARED.

Wrong. Since when is narrow mindedness about fear? It's about bigotry and intolerance, not fear. A phobia is a persistent, irrational fear that leads to a compulsion to avoid at all costs. Which, if they actually did that, "homophobia" would be a great thing.

It's always been about fear. The U.S. is remarkably honest in its debate about gay marriage. The right-wingers admit flat-out that they're afraid that gay marriage will harm their Father Knows Best society.

They're nuts, but they're afraid. That'd be that "irrational fear."

The bit in bold makes sense. But. The rest smacks of assumptions.

How is opening a restaurant 'bullying country folk'?

What did they do other than being gay and opening a business, to warrant the bullying? You say you don't believe in saying a word 'if they keep it to themselves', but what does that mean exactly? Is being obviously gay 'looking for trouble'? Your post leaves me with more questions than answers.

So busy playing doctor shrink that you either miss the point or skip it to advance your supposed superior knowledge. Yes being obviously queer is a red flag to a great many people. If that was not the case this whining bunch here could just shut up, mission accomplished.
If there was only a rare individual who did not accept queers there would be no problem.

Do we refer to white supremicists as 'negrophobic'?

I don't disagree that it's irrational but I won't let them hide behind the "fear" label. It's intolerance. Phobic implies absence of choice and something beyond their control. I don't buy that for a second. People choose to hate. They can choose to embrace and accept or they can choose to keep their noses out of other people's business.

Oh, now I think I understand the source of our disagreement. And it ain't a disagreement. I'm totally on your side there. I'm sorry if I gave the impression that we should give the haters some credit, or some room, or some understanding of their fear. It's no excuse at all. They need to clench up and start behaving like civilised adults. Which includes NOT trying to force your bedroom behaviour on others, or claiming the right to tell them how to behave.

We call them xenophobic, as the issues are rarely confined simply to race.

Lol. I just call them bigots myself.

I was just making a point.

And sometimes it's an inferiority complex, makes them feel better when they can wail on somebody whom they perceive to be worse than they are.

Why do people perceive gays as people who can't fight or stand up for themselves like the men they are?

Who's doing that? Because I sure as heck don't. My son is a third degree black belt, he could clean plenty of people's clocks if he had too.
