I hate the word racism: it is overused in almost every context. People forget that it is a form of bigotry and apply "racism" as a label, where they should be using bigotry. A Frenchman who hates all Englishmen because of their nationality (or vice versa) is a bigot not a racist. A "white" person who espouses hatred of a non-white group because of their skin-tone is also a bigot (although in this case racist could correctly probably be used). This may seem like nit-picking to some but incorrect usage of language is one of the key causes of miscommunication that leads to conflicts: people get pissed off when someone takes their point the "wrong" way but who's fault is it when they are the ones mis-using language?
Now as to the subject of bigotry, I don't hold that there are valid distinctions between racism and other forms of it. The political left and right are both guilty of harbouring and even encouraging it at various times. Its not the sole property of any point on the political spectrum. Its not something that one extreme uses more than the other, although it is more prevalent on the extremes, where compromises are harder to find and vitriol runs deep.
