Hey, L. Gilbert, are you my estranged brother!
Of course I am, but you are more estrange than I am. lol

Ahh, "My wife's sisters and her had the same two parents, for instance" reinforces the idea of an inter-relational web. However, I am going vertically in the progression, not laterally!
I know. I am just having fun. :)

And, so, the first two reasons dispense with race (a social not a genetic construct), ethnic or national purity (Nonsense, check out a Brit). I have family on every inhabited continent and of every "race" and "colour." But then, so do you, cousin! So do you!
The probabilities are high, yes. :D

Reason #3 is much more relevant to me, however. More later.[/quote]

Mycellium rules this planet and probably many many others. If it ever took revenge we'd be toast in days.
Not fair - if you are going to throw in a new word - you have to spell it right so that I can find it in less than about 3 seconds. This one took about 15 seconds.
my·ce·li·um
(m
# s"Æl" Ãm), n., pl.
-li·a
(-l

the mass of hyphae that form the vegetative part of a fungus.
[1830–40; < NL, equiv. to Gk myk- MYC- + (h)£l(os) wart, nail + NL -ium -IUM]
my·ceÆli·al, adj.

By the way "hyphae" is apparently one of the thread like elements of the mycelium
just to save anyone look-up time.

Now ... we have Adam and Eve and their offspring ...and their offspring had to mate with somebody so many generations later they could be struck dead because they were all bad buggers.

So then we have Noah and the missus. Then their offspring begat offspring who had to mate with somebody too so's we could all be cousins....

Does that all sanction incest?

If what is said in the bible about Adam and Eve being the first humans on earth, then it was, to multiply. Who knows what the real truth is? Some believe it and some don't. Just my opinion! :)

Not are we all related genetically, we are are related as inheritors of "Western Culture." Today, the Baghdad Museum reopened (sadly with 2/3 of its artifacts missing - plundered after the invasion). Iraq - the birthplace of Western Civilization.

And, we're all part of the CC Family.

But the real reasons I call you "cousins' is ...

Sorry, got to go shovel snow!

I don't remember any mention of Adam and Eve having any daughters. Could Cane and Able have been hermaphrodites? Could Cane (his feminine side) have killed Able's feminine side in a jealous rage? So many questions, so little evidence!

I guess I go a little further than Spade does. I link the biochemical pathways throughout Earth's biosphere. We're all relatives. Nature is the ultimate practitioner of reduce, reuse, recycle. The glycolysis pathway is the same for every single living creature. The only thing that changes is the regulation (how tightly it is regulated) of the pathway. Evolution has seen fit to keep this pathway. Evolution has seen fit to keep glucose as the universal (at least planetary) form of energy storage.

Maybe that's different elsewhere, but on this planet the biochemical pathways link all of us together. It's pretty fascinating how different forms of life can come up with the same function, only minor chemical differences. It's even more fascinating how the same system can evolve independently in two different species separated by the extratropical oceans.

Cousin Spade, if you'll allow me to call you that; Off topic but since this thread is dedicated to you, (maybe we should have an "ask Spade" thread) I have a quick question for you. My daughter and I don't speak much considering it costs about 2 bucks a minute so we don't get into the minutae of grammar and syntax. As you know, she is attending Университет Санкт-Петербург; the address they give is spelled Университетская. She rattled off something about male-female, something the english language doesn't express for inanimate objects; is that the reason for the "tskaya" suffix on so many words? Я не знаю, Спасибо.

Hi Cliff,
Yep, the old myth of Adam and Eve still lingers, whereas other myths, Nordic, Amerind, Slavic, African are slowly forgotten. Pity! Judeo-Christianity is the Monsanto of Religion.
PS
Cheques in the mail. Should arrive next week!

All of us without, exception, tends to view the world in terms of "us" and "them." We always bomb (figuratively and literally) "them," never "us." "Cousin" reduces that aesthetic distance.

Geesus, enough being serious today! The real reason tomorrow!

I'm sure many of you have noticed Spade often signs "cousin Spade". Spade goes by the premise that all of us on earth are related to each other. Therefore, we are all cousins. I thought some of you may have some thoughts of your own regarding our relationship to each other. I'm assuming that Spade thinks of his wife as an extremely distant cousin but very close relative.;-) I'm with Spade. I like to think that no matter our colour or creed, we all stemmed from two.

I know that if a person goes back 800 years and counting ancestors, 2 parents, 4 grandparents 8 greatgrandparents etc. by the time you've gone back about 25 generations the total number of one person's ancestors exceeded the world population at the time.

Hi Spade,
I can tell that you are really really happy I thought I would throw this thread on ;-). I did think people deserved to know why you called them cousin because I was sure that they were either just a tad curious or maybe even thought you might be a raving lunatic. I'm beginning to see the latter surfacing so I think you need to be a little careful. This is really fun. Wish I had thought of it earlier.:toothy1:
