as you started this thread, perhaps you should have re-titled it to focus on regional weather... given your apparent fixation with a "Mr. Gore" perhaps you should look farther... perhaps in... Australia!

Australia’s summer doesn’t start until December, but the country is still baking in a record-breaking spring heat wave.

On Saturday, Australia’s average high temperature of 97.5°F broke the record for the hottest October day since record-keeping began in 1910. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, this weekend’s heat wave set records for daily high temperatures at 20 stations throughout the country. The town of St. George reached a high of 108.6°F on Sunday, and the suburbs surrounding Ipswich and Brisbane hit 106°F.

Earth has warmest October on record as ocean temperatures top charts

Earth has warmest October on record as ocean temperatures top charts

Multiple datasets have confirmed it was the warmest October on record for the globe, keeping the planet on a course towards its toastiest year.
The Japan Meteorological Agency, NASA, and the University of Alabama’s temperature records all showed October temperatures at the top of charts.

looks like we're on track for a record breaking year. jury's still out as to whether or not there'll be an El Nino event.

Does that include the temperatures at night?

Sometimes I wonder if the statistics are accurate or if it's just that the thermometers nowadays are more accurate!

stats can say anything you want them to...in the end, warming, cooling, whatever, we can't do a damn thing about it and being closer to December than May frankly Scarlet, you know the rest ;-)

see localized and/or regional weather... you know, the thing that you're trying to improperly conflate with climate. When you titled this thread, did you intend "world" to mean..... localized and/or regional weather? Have you ever travelled outside your local area? It's a pretty big world out there Walter. A few posts back I put up the record breaking spring heat wave temperatures Australia is now experiencing... in keeping with your quoted post Walter... "why is it so bloody warm in Australia right now"?

yup... which is why I questioned Walter about his thread title given his perpetual fixation with weather!

Stats can say anything you want them to to someone who doesn't know stats. For those that know them they can be remarkably instructive. Even enriching--ask Nate Silver.

Sometimes I wonder if the statistics are accurate or if it's just that the thermometers nowadays are more accurate!

Translation: I don't agree with the instrumental record, so I'll just make up my own mind.

Does that include the temperatures at night?

Translation: I really have no idea what anyone's talking about so I'll just drop little bon mots in to try to sound like I do.
