Who says his undies are in a knot? What I notice him reading about concerning climate is almost entirely about long term stuff.

Well in the long term it will go up and down and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it except hide. If you want to contribute to saving the planet through taxation fine, me I don't give a damn for this planet and as soon as my ride gets back with the Jovian beer we're sooo outta here.

Quit ASSuming stuff about me, please. I think the carbon credit/tax, whatever else they call it is just more entrepreneurial claptrap hiding under the guise of a cause (like religion).

Yeah, lots of other people don't give a damn either. I pity those people, too.

Um, yeah. That could be because chunks keep breaking off shelves in the warmer temperatures and turn into sea ice, don'tcha think?

The shelves are already part of the sea ice, Ann.

No, not the most ice we've had in years Walt. Ice occupies three dimensions, not two:

Scientist says Arctic getting colder

MOSCOW, April 23 (UPI) -- A Russian scientist says the Arctic may be getting colder, not warmer, which would hamper the international race to discover new mineral fields.
An Arctic cold snap that began in 1998 could last for years, freezing the northern marine passage and making it impassable without icebreaking ships, said Oleg Pokrovsky of the Voeikov Main Geophysical .

"I think the development of the shelf will face large problems," Pokrovsky said Thursday at a seminar on research in the Polar regions.
Scientists who believe the climate is warming may have been misled by data from U.S. stations located in urban areas, where dense microclimates creates higher temperatures, RIA Novosti quoted Pokrovsky as saying.

"Politicians who placed their bets on global warming may lose the pot," Pokrovsky said.

So you are saying that ice sitting on land is sea ice? Just because a shelf may be sticking out over the sea does not mean it is in the sea.

Sea ice info:

Sea ice is frozen seawater that floats on the ocean surface. Blanketing millions of square kilometers, sea ice forms and melts with the polar seasons, affecting both human activity and biological habitat. In the Arctic, some sea ice persists year after year, whereas almost all Southern Ocean or Antarctic sea ice is "seasonal ice," meaning it melts away and reforms annually. While both Arctic and Antarctic ice are of vital importance to the marine mammals and birds for which they are habitats, sea ice in the Arctic appears to play a more crucial role in regulating climate.
Because they are composed of ice originating from glaciers, icebergs are not considered sea ice. Most of the icebergs infesting North Atlantic shipping lanes originate from Greenland glaciers.

Ice Shelves are permanent floating ice sheets that are attached to land and are constantly fed by glaciers. These descriptions are from SOTC: Sea Ice

Massive Arctic ice cap is shrinking, study shows; Rate accelerating since 1985

Awesome! Must be thermal contraction I guess.

I know you're eager to post this one too Walt. I'll save you the trouble though. I know how you love to watch for these meaningless daily snapshots:

Here's a little bit of info on the subject of ice.

Apparently geologists have been studying Greenland and discovered that it's ice loss is steadily accelerating and the average is about 30 Gigatonnes of ice per year. As a result of this load relief, Greenland is rising about 10 to 15 mm per year. The estimate if Greenland's ice melts completely is that the oceans would rise a few meters which is enough to submerge about a third of Florida.
That's gotta be good for the economy, right?

how would that explain 'melting' ice in many places. Even
here in the comox valley, we can see that our glacier
has less ice coverage in the summer than it did a few
years ago.

Is Greenland gaining or losing ice?

BUT Anna- the amount that Greenland rises would probably compensate for the amount of land lost in Florida (which is probably going to be polluted by this oil leak catastrope) which would probably be a good thing, especially as a lot of sh*t happens in Florida..........................don't you think?:lol::lol::lol:

gulp gulp, gurgle gurgle. :) I'm 8feet above sea level.

It will be Long Island NY to the British Isles that will feel it first. The world economy will drop so far that what is happening now will be thought of as the good old days.

Yeah. All those old fogies at Palm Bay and Ft. Lauderdale will have to learn to swim and the exploiters of the planet can head for Greenland to rape it of its oil and minerals.
Awesome.
