Hey, if the objective is to just create jobs regardless of whether it creates wealth or not, why not hire half of the unemployed to dig holes and the other half to fill them? I'm sure they might feel a little offended at society wasting their potential like that, but hey. It would create jobs. Can't deny that. As for contributing tot he GDP, ah well. Details, schmetails. At least we'll have created plenty o' jobs.

How do you get from predicting war, something that hasn't stopped for all of recorded history, to bloodthirsty, not that there's anything wrong with that, is there, I mean it is the economy of the planet. There is no way out of debt except the cult goes down. War generates debt and demand, this is the old growth and development plan in action, creative destruction. Where's the party that will just educate the unemployed so that they can then find their own jobs. For example, teach them how to build solar cells and then let the private sector take over. The private sector informs the government of where it has skills shortages,and the government educates the unemployed in those skills. Sounds more or less like what they try to do in Europe. Just deal with the causes of unemployment at the root.
But hay, great wars are much more heroic and and arts spending is so much more civilized.
