Hey, give it a break. Now if they had been building the mosque 3 blocks away, it would have been fine, but not 2:lol:

I don't know, we'd have to ask Imam Rauf if 3 blocks would have been far enough away for him to not name his book "A Call to Prayer from the World Trade Center Rubble: Islamic Da'wah From the Heart of America Post-9/11".

When are you converting to Islam?

:D Never. I'm not religious at all, but I'm also opposed to hypocrisy.

I'm all for free speech, and for liberty in a general form, beyond just speech and expression.

So, really I'm the wrong person to ask that type of question. It might have more effect on those with something in common with extremist Muslims who do wish to deny others their liberty.

You can breath easy Bear :D

We're all a little hypocritical Ton...

So am I, but I still don't think I would put a Casino on Greasy Grass Creek though. I'm as put off at the fact that there is, as much as I'm put off by a Mosque near the WTC site.

Just how much should poor taste play on hypocrisy Ton?

Just because the nutcases allegedly responsible for the 9/11 claim to have religion on their side, doesn't mean its true. It would be like banning the building of a Catholic Church because of the some Catholic clergy's child abuse.

I'd also like to point out that many 9/11 victims were Muslim:

Muslim Victims of Terrorist Attack, September 11, 2001

The ADL is mostly concerned about anti-semiticism, not Islamaphobia.

If you consider that the Iman of this Mosque has stated that the US brought 911 upon themselves - if you consider that monies for this come from the Saudi's - If you consider the impact this will have on relations between religions - It is not only in bad taste it is also a provocation.
Just becasue you have the right to do something does not make it right or appropriate.

But that is not consdered - Why?

EAO - AKA Babbling Brook - As to the Alledged Nitcases that in your limited view were resposnible for 911 - The NY Coroners Office has their body parts, identified by DNA and offered to be returned to the Saudi's for burial - They will not accept this as then they would have to admit that these people were involved.

And it was a Jewish Conspiracy - Right????

What we have in the OP, is society's boundless addiction to political correctness............;-)

Yes - The West has a tendency to over react to the Big PC Gods - Trying to please everyone does not work very well.

Isn't it politically incorrect? Minimizing offense (politically correct by any definition) would be to bow to the tugging heart strings of the victims of 9/11 wouldn't it? Preventing the legitimate use of land because it is offensive to some group is the very definition of politically correct...

Simple solution: Ban all religious activities within a ten block radius of the WTC and all nutcases should be equally PO. That should be politically correct.

I'm just saying, well I didn't actually just say it, but I've noticed a shift in what is politically correct. It's used as a pejorative far more often by those with a conservative bent, and it seems to be kind of a catch all at times.

Perhaps that is because Liberal/Left Wing throw their back out trying to cater to everyone that has a vote.

Do you think the building location is in good taste as they say.

Do you think it will still the waters of religious differences or increase the differences -

Do you think the Iman stating that the US brought 911 upon them will be taken lightly

Do you think that the Saudi money behind this goes over well

Just a few points.

Northern Ontario,
It seemed that int the last few decades P C had been on the rise but only in one direction.....If you ranted against bible thumping Christian fundamentalists...everything was OK....but say anything against muslim extremists in general or anything deregatory against muhammad and you were identified as a conservative right wing nutjob that deserved to have a fatwa declared against him or at the very least be investigated by the HRC.
If one goes by the polls in NYC ....the pendulum might be swingning the other way...
It may take a while for mainstream media to catch up:lol:

Sure. Assuming you don't, is there a distance where it would be acceptable? What if there are existing Mosques within that buffer zone?

Do you think it will still the waters of religious differences or increase the differences -

I have no idea. I wouldn't even hazard a guess. I think they will do as they have been, and work to build bridges. I'm sure they will build some. And then there are some people, as extreme as the extremists who boarded those planes, who won't be swayed by anything.

Do you think the Iman stating that the US brought 911 upon them will be taken lightly

No, and he shouldn't. Part of building those bridges should be trying to see something from someone elses viewpoint. Picking winners and losers and playing around with other nation's futures certainly didn't help out the Americans. I think that's a valid point.

Do you think that the Saudi money behind this goes over well

Would it even matter if it were Muslims in America that funded the project? Seriously, there are many kinds of Saudis...they aren't all terrorists. My neighbours are Saudis, they drink more beer than I do.

Northern Ontario,
I'm glad to see that the Muslim Canadian Congress is opposed to this mosque:smile:
TORONTO – The Muslim Canadian Congress (MCC) is urging the Cordoba House Initiative to abandon its proposed Ground-Zero Mosque in New York in the face of outrage expressed by large segments of the American population calling the proposal an act of 'fitna' or mischief.
