If the Libs are going to legalize pot, I think the legal age should be 25...after a young man's/woman's brain has stopped developing.

Think about that statement for a second and answer these questions.
When you were a young person when did you:

  • Take your first drink
  • Smoke your first cigarette or cigar.
  • Smoke Pot (If you did)
Young people will find a way and no young person is going to wait until they are 25. At 18 years old we can hand them a rifle and send them off to war. Make them file income tax as an adult. Send them to prison.

If we as a society think the above is acceptable, then letting them make the choice is also acceptable.

And let's be honest here, we all found a way well before it was legal to do so. If you didn't, then you are the exception among a handful of exceptions.

I'm amazed at the number of posts about pot recently, considering there are a litany of other more important things on Trudeau's "plate" right now.

I've heard of pot helping some people with physical pain/ailments. You would think the drug would do more harm to those with mental health issues, would it not?

Not necessarily. I wish I knew more about the medicine part but it doesn't produce the same results in everyone. Just like most people smoke a joint and hit the couch I know a couple of people that speed right up. Kind of like people with ADHD take speed and cafine to slow down.

Partly because it was an election promise that he has been dragging his feet on. Partly because despite promises to legalize pot there has been a spike in busts of medical pot stores. One would expect that since according to the PM pot will be legal In a yearand that there is so much real crime for the police to take care of they would leave the pot shops alone.

There's two lines of thought about that. I fully agree with enforcing all laws that are in place WHILE they are in place. If you are going to start "bending" the rules where is it going to stop. I have serious concerns about legalizing pot for recreational use. One of the biggest being is it going to compromise the safety of our roads and another is what it does to the brain of young people. I know quite a few of the guys who were doing it weren't worth a sh*t on the job. Now, one thing I can't say is whether it was a "cause or effect" issue.

He promised to give full support to Canada's veterans, but backed away.

I am glad he supported the two pipelines, but I think he should stick his cash grab carbon tax up his keister.

Meanwhile, back at the thread. I think they should decriminalize it now, remove it from employment drug testing and quit busting marijuana dispensaries. Especially in Ontario, where Kathleen Wynne is salivating for legal marijuana to increase her tax base.

If the Gov taxes the pot too high when it's legalized, the underground will thrive anyways.

Cigarette taxes are ridiculous. Everyone I know including me is smoking Natives...$25.00 for a carton of 200.

Certain issues play well to the public. Others do not.

For example, health care issues don't get as much press as guns, grass and gambling. Alcohol too. Call me cynical, but politicians cannot get the mileage from breast cancer that they can from guns. So, they go with the percentages and talk about guns.

Look at this chart from 1992, when the gun debate was raging.

Death by cancer -- men - 30,481
Death by homicide, firearm -- men - 178

Death by cancer -- women - 25,167
Death by homicide, firearm -- women - 69

source: http://www.acbr.com/causdeat.htm

What got more air time on the Internet, in newspapers, magazines, television and radio? The 55,648 cancer deaths or the 247 gun deaths?

Guns grab everyone's attention because the airwaves are full of news footage about wars around the world and fictional dramas that use handguns, like cop shows or mysteries. Politicians know this and will talk about guns because it stirs up so much rancorous debate. It gets their name in the news and in front of constituents.

How often is any kind of cancer featured in the news or on a television show? How often do politicians makes statements about cancer? Sadly, cancer is a political non-event.

Marijuana is like the gun debate. It gets a lot of air play.

MJ definitely helps with the PTSD ( the antihistamine thing again..IMHO, and the distraction and the help with sleeping). We have a couple guys we have helped in the homeless system here. They can tell you, it helped them more then the government drugs do.

Depends on the Province.

A Province or two are already covering RXed cannabis and there are tax credits for those who qualify for the Federal disability tax credit.

Yes you will. You'll be out somewhere and forget your ganja. You'll have to slip into the store and pick some up. Or there will be a dispensing machine at the marina. You'll pony up the cash for tailor made.

Never say never. They'll get you on your tax return as well. You'll pay an increased local or provincial levy so that the less fortunate can get their pot. Kind of like needle park, only safer to walk on in your bare feet.
