In that light, here are two things that political correctness is not:

It’s not censorship.
It’s not an infringement on anyone’s First Amendment rights.

Let's Not Confuse Political Correctness With Basic Human Decency | The Huffington Post

Basically just another anti-Trump rant, mf. However, when political correctness is carried the lengths we see today, it is censorship and nothing but censorship. It is one group of people telling a person or another group that they cannot say anything that might in the least hurt their feelings. The problem with that is the 'feelings' they are talking about are so amorphous as to be inexplicable.

Numerous examples of such abuse of political correctness have arisen lately - a good number coming from what should be bastions of free and open debate - our universities. One need look no further than the furor over Professor Peterson though there are many others including the teacher in BC who was recently fired from his position for nothing more than saying he did not support abortion. Neither of those examples are about political correctness they are a direct attack on the ability of persons to speak about issues that should be brought to light and discussed in an open and honest manner. Trouble is that the ability to do so these days is getting harder and harder to accomplish.

also most of the things one shouldn't say are censored based upon the allegation that somebody might be offended. Apparently there became a right to not be offended somewhere along the line.

I think most people understand basic racist language is unacceptable. But the offense over the words of a Christmas song or the name of a football team is purely fabricated and what most people refer to when they are talking about political correctness.

Basic human decency means not deliberately saying things to hurt people's feelings. Political correctness means changing words while the substance remains the same and is therefore just plain stupid.

Political correctness often causes more insult than it prevents. Like trying to change the names of sports teams because the names might be demeaning. Now that is stupid.

What is demeaning about the words 'Indians', 'Braves' and 'Chiefs'? I used to think those words were complimentary. I still do. By calling them demeaning, Indians, Braves and Chiefs are demeaned.

What is demeaning about calling a person who can't hear 'deaf'? Does calling him 'hearing impaired' make him any less deaf? Or calling a blind person 'visually impaired'; call him what you like he still can't see.

What is demeaning about referring to a person by his race? Or religion? Are we to believe that people should be ashamed of their race or religion and that it should not be spoken of?

People need to get over getting insulted by the words other people use. You can call an American a Yankee, a Canadian a Canuck, an Englishman a Brit, an Australian an Aussie without insult. But you can't call a Pakistani a Paki or a Chinese a Chinaman or Japanese a Jap without being accused of racial slurs.
Isn't that pretty stupid?
Well I tell my wife she has Jap knees .

That's funny!
The Political in-correctness that goes in our family is hilarious. It's all in good fun.
Hubby tells me 'You done pretty good for a dumb farm kid'.
When hubby was wheelchair bound we called him 'gimpy' and 'the crip'.
My Catholic sister-in-law gets called 'the Mick'
My nephew till his wife, "You shut up woman and get back into the kitchen where you belong"
My son tells me he could tell my German heritage by my square head
It's all good natured, FGS, and we get a lot of laughs out of it.

Quite frankly I doubt that the PC'ers know what human decency even is and if they do they certainly don't show it!!

Mowich was absolutely correct when he said: "Numerous examples of such abuse of political correctness have arisen lately - a good number coming from what should be bastions of free and open debate - our universities. One need look no further than the furor over Professor Peterson though there are many others including the teacher in BC who was recently fired from his position for nothing more than saying he did not support abortion". Where is the decency in that? Again with the hypocrisy.

It amazes me that so-called "intellectuals" are so dumb that they can't see the hypocrisy in anything they say and do. So, since supposedly they're not stupid, it's intentional. That ticks me off! This is what people are getting angry about - the "do as I say people, not as I do" which encompasses a whole lot of crap now-a-days; political correctness including climate change, gender issues etc., etc.

I try to treat others with respect and consider myself a fairly decent human being with faults like everyone else. The exceptions are politicians whose ideologies and ideas do not make any sense. I have no respect for individuals who, for not other reason than power and those ideologies, implement policies that are against the good of the community as a whole; who implement policies that likely lines someone else's pockets while taking it out of the poor and hard working people; who are disingenuous in calling a tax anything else but what it is - a tax.

So, insofar as Political Correctness is concerned, it is about human decency and the lack thereof and there's no confusion at all.

It's the most one can expect from people that realize they can't really defend the indefensible. Have you noticed, not one single Trumpite has bothered to address the glaring hypocrisy of supporting the Carrier bailout versus pooh-poohing the Bombardier bailouts. In fact, not only are they not addressing it, they're running away from it. That's a clear sign that your position is vacuous.

(Note to Trumpites...vacuous is not good)

Maybe because there is nothing even remotely similar between the two.

No, the problem is that we have too many people like you living under our bridges.

Getting too crowded under there for you?

Yes, you're right. One is the government giving tax dollars to a corporation under the guise of protecting jobs and the other is the government giving tax dollars to a corporation under the guise of protecting jobs. No similarity at all.

So, 'ni99er' is still a good option for you?
Considering it's just a mispronunciation of the latin word "niger", which means "Black"... Hence the countries of Nigeria and Niger, as well as the Niger river. Better change those names, they're too close to the bad word.

Do you get offended by the term "cracker" in reference to White people? Do you at least find it odd that people have such a problem with one epithet but not the other?

Yes? In case you may think I'm German, my handle is derived from a Dutch aircraft designer and manufacturer and immigrant to Canada. I'm sure they had no love of them at the time. Russians had a term, and not one of endearment, немецкий, pronounced, sort of, nyemyetski. That term is still in use and in the dictionary for German.
