I don't see the point, really. The whole region is a mess. As for the the Palestianss and the Israelis, they are completely and utterly in a situation of their own devising. This low-level war suits both, as much as they moan about it. For the Israelis, it provides the justification and social licence they require to occupy Gaza and the West Bank. For the Palestinian leaders, they have a bogeyman to detract people from their incompetence and corruption.

Myself, If I was PM, I'd just stay as far away from that as a I possibly could. But if I was going to back anyone, it would be Israel--a democratic, free state. Plus you gotta love the Jews. Thery're funny, artistic, smart and, as Colpy said , liberal. :lol: And who knows, maybe now they'll stop issuing Mossad assassins Canaidan passports.

Thanks for the tip of the hat..........but in the interests of accuracy, I have to point out that Gaza has not been occupied for over 8 years. Israel unilaterally withdrew from Gaza in 2005........and forced all Israeli settlers out at the same time.

I wouldn't say I'm backing Israel. I said if I were PM I'd stay as far away from that mess as I possibly could. Harper said a bunch of nice words to Israel. Didn't really cost a lot. Probably pissed off a bunch of Muslims, but they were pissed to start with.

It's not in the Prime Ministers power to ignore the wishes of Israel. The cost of his actions and words has already cost Canadian lives and will in the very near future if Israel has its way. The cost of a successful Israeli security rests on the permanent misery of the rest of the world. The Muslims are wise to be alarmed.

I was impressed by Prime Minister Harper's response to media's questions by stating:

"I am not here to single out Isreal for criticism. I find it, you know, interesting, let me just make it as an observation, that you know, yesterday in the Palestinian Authority, no one asked me there, no one asked me to single out the PA for any criticism in terms of governance or human rights or anything else," Harper said ..."When I'm in Isreal, I'm asked to single out Isreal. When I'm in Palestinian Authority, I'm asked to single out Isreal and in half...half the other places around the world you ask me to single out Isreal," the PM said.

Finally the PM has brought to the public's attention how hypocritical the media is when it comes to Isreal. Isreal isn't perfect but neither are the Palestinians, or any of the other countries that are anything but democracies. But, I guess when it comes to Isreal, hypocracy knows no bounds!! How can you only disparage Isreal when there are so many other countries that provide cruel and unusual punishment to many members of their own; stoning, killing, torture etc. none of which applies to Isreal, btw. They actually imprision people for doing those things. It's extremely frustrating!
