Cops More Likely To Murder

Interesting article, and it agrees with my own math, in which I used Josh Sugarmann's stats (google him, leader of the anti-gun movement) to establish the murder rate among US CCW license holders at slightly over 0.5 per 100,000............one NINTH of the general population in the USA, and ONE THIRD the murder rate in Canada.

That is my plan. One efficient bureaucracy running all the parks. Right now we have hundreds of bloated bureaucracies all doing the same thing. And it is not nickel and dime either.
I would do the same for education. One ministry for the entire country. That way a kid could move from Halifax to vancouver and be within a day or two of the same spot. Much easier to have standardized tests with a standard system and a lot cheaper to run. I don't figure the government unions would like it but their opinion is largely self serving with no consideration for the people that foot the bill.

A host of leaders before you have thought the same way – concentrate all power and they can accomplish wonders. Hitler, Stalin, Ceausescu, Idi Amin, Pol Pot and a long list of other tribal chieftains in Africa. Democracies seem too inefficient for some people. Any ideas on how you’re going to talk this democracy into amending the constitution?

Another example of a false argument. Those are not the people who are doing most of the killing.

Ahhh...yeah, that's kind of the point.

Indeed? So you think a good debating technique means you insert a sentence or two and let everybody else fill in your blanks? The issue in America is handgun proliferation. Unlimited private sales is not solving the problem. The only argument you have opened up here is the general untrustworthiness of American police. You have resolved no argument at all.

The seven million licensed carry civilians in the USA, despite ANY reasonable requirement for training or qualification, have a murder rate 1/3 of the general population in Canada.

Think about that.

It is not the handguns, it is the inner cities. If you disappeared by magic every handgun in the USA, the murder rate wouldn't even drop 10%.

It's a great debating technique. Weeds out the dullards, minimises the need for leading by the hand.

Your position is completely lacking in logic. So what are they using in the inner cities? Handguns, because its easier to walk down the street with a handgun than with a rifle or shotgun.

Do you get it yet?

As in hand"gun"?

What I get is that your greatest achievement in life has been not drooling on your shoes.

Countries with very strict gun control have murder rates 5, 10, 15, almost 20 times that of the USA.

You can kill without a handgun. And people determined to kill will do so, with or without handguns.

What did the Rwandans kill 800,000 people with????

You're being very boring. Alcohol causes drunk driving casualties. America has a gun problem. I chose your choice of web page to point out the figures establishing that compared to Canada and nine western European nations, America had 16X the number of annual gun murders in 2011. Your response? You asked if I was being racist. You go and compare America to Rwanda if you wish. You are probably unable to understand the irrelevance of your various positions. As a shooter I am discouraged that my gun rights depend in part on people like you. I really hope you're not Canadian.

Yep.

Of all the countries you have chosen because they have a lower murder rate than the USA, I agree, the USA has the highest murder rate. Surprise, surprise.

However, I fail to be impressed. Cherry picking proves nothing, if you want to make a valid point, you have to include all the data........that is how correct conclusions are reached.

Garbage in, garbage out.

If any rights depended on you, we would have none.

They were chosen because they were culturally similar to America - like Canada.

No Colpy. Is it your position that you should go up in front of public panels or government decision makers and argue for gun rights by comparing Canada to Rwanda and Third World dictatorships? They wouldn't laugh in your face. They would politely thank you and bury your submission. You would have harmed the cause.

If any rights depended on you, we would have none.

People like you are the biggest threat to Canadian gun rights. Loud, bullying and overly impressed with your own faulty logic, you would frighten audiences. You aren't even smart enough to recognize somebody who is on your side and more capable than you at creating a good argument. You are our biggest nightmare.

.

You think the USA has a monolithic culture??

Hilarious.

Inner cities have a much different culture than say.......Vermont, which has practically NO gun laws, and a murder rate lower than Canada.

Ahhh....sorry, I understand the methology of research, having once been a history research assistant. Cherry-picking for results that fit your pre-established conclusions is both dishonest, and stupid.

All the data or none.

Sonny, when it comes to smarts, you ain't got them.

You are not on my side. You would throw Canadian handgun owners, and/or "assault" rifle owners out of the sleigh in a millisecond, simply because you are not interested. You believe guns cause murder, which puts you outside the Pale from the word "go".

You do not believe that people have a right to the means of self-defense.

Do not pretend to "be on my side".

You are not.

You are the worst of the shooters........you only think in terms of self-interest, you do not think you are fighting for a civil right, and you are simply too stupid to understand the gradualism used by the gun control lobby to disarm us.

Oh, Tober, BTW....what state/province/territory in the US and Canada has the WORST murder rate??

Nunavut. Over 4 times the average rate in the USA.

Must be all those handguns.

Homicide offences, number and rate, by province and territory (Homicide rate)

A “research assistant”? Oh well, why didn’t y’all say so?

All the data or none.

Relevant data only, Colpy.

Nunavut. Over 4 times the average rate in the USA.

I have lived there. Nunavut also has the safest streets in Canada. The violence happens in homes when the Inuit get under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The Inuit culture is inherently violent. Guns are not the primary cause of death. Until about the 1980’s the most common cause of death in the Arctic was starvation.

Note in colpy's article....Notes: Homicide includes Criminal Code offences of murder, manslaughter and infanticide.
nothing about starvation
