Northern Ontario,
Gun Control is just that, government control over what should be a right of the people. You have laws on the books for murder, armed robbery, armed assault etc. Now registering bullets could possibly be a big help in controlling crime, at least identifying who purchased a particular bullet. (shotguns excluded)

What about those of us that reload?

Northern Ontario,
You have swallowed that particular bit of garbage whole-heartedly.........what you can NOT deal with is the facts, that by US state, by across border comparisons, or by country rankings show one simple fact: there is NO correlation between murder or suicide rates and gun control. Absolutely none.

Sorry to shake up your comfy little world view.

You try booking a working project and holiday 6 months in advance and lets see how well you can pin down the date. Either way I'm honouring the deal.

Tories urged to widen scope of gun registry bill - Canada - CBC News

The govt is also being "urged" to go back to the FAC and drop the Possession and Acquisition License.

Sure. Whatever.

The objection to the POL and the PAL is that if you forget and let it expire, you are subject to "police action", since you have firearms and no permit.

Sure. Whatever.

Wish they'd do it (whatever) already.

Think they might wait till the next erection?

Not yet, petros...........but the bill to abolish it was introduced today and it is a slam dunk that it will pass. Thank you Conservatives.

Gov't seeks to dismantle 'wasteful' long-gun registry - CTV News

Yep, Petros will honour the deal.....

BTW, he has NOT lost the bet yet......it was that the bill would be passed before January 1.........and it might not make it. Time runneth short.

It may yet be me you are missing for 30 days.

It's out of our hands Colpy, we'll just have to wait and see how long it takes to clear the agenda of more pressing house issues. Good luck mate.

I just got an automated phone call from Candice Hoeppner (MP for Portage la Perogie/Lisgar) in regards to the LGR and I'll be called back in a few days for an "over the phone town hall meeting".

Your right Colpy...this might take a while. There is a petition you can sign at the CPC website.

I'd rather be shot than stabbed.

Not sure I would announce something like that on here. You just might get your wish.;-)

(just kiddin ya. .....but I see your point. at least a shooting is relatively fast and "clean"......a stabbing is so yucky..and messy . I think if more folks saw the results of such injuries in the ER....they might want to rethink their passion for guns. ( those that are passionate about owning and using guns "for self defense or whatever) They might consider spending some time in the morgue and get a reality based view of what weapons do to a person.

One has to be a very hardened person not to feel something of a revulsion and pathos ...when exposed to these victims.

*************

IF gun control or even a feeble effort at it....is useless, what do folks suggest?? Let's hear some ideas. Thx.

I like weapons of all types....I confess.

I would like unfettered access to anything I could carry away..........lol

But that is not realistic.

I think, as a compromise, the licensing system makes sense. Gun handling, safety training and a background check, and the time it takes to carry these out may even prevent some misuse, death and injury.

I do believe the classification of guns into "good" guns and "bad" guns is completely silly, as are magazine restrictions (see the vid attached to my profile called "quick shooter" ........understand the guy reloads in the middle......)

I also see no reason why trained and licensed individuals are not allowed to carry handguns.
