Isn't that the one with the thick hexagonal barrel? ...or octagonal ... can't remember.

I forgot too :-D, haven't had it out in a while, so I had to go to the basement and look, it is octagonal. Yeah, it came with milling marks on the barrel and brass pieces. The stock was pretty rough too. It was about $150 less than a complete model, but it was also a labour of love. I only stained and oiled the stock and it has maintained its finish, the brass pieces need to be shined up fairly often and the barrel needs to be re-blued every couple years. but the NS climate was/is hard on anything metal.

Do we even have them in Canada?

I don't think I have ever seen a possum. They are probably fake news.

Northern Ontario,
I still have a .54 Hawken I built from a kit nearly 40 years ago, and it too is quite accurate provided you load it properly. I have to use a full 120gr of FFG (its max load) with a 230gr round ball. Anything less and accuracy drops substantially. Though much cleaner, Triple 7 powder just doesn't work well. Black powder is dirty stuff.
Mine was a replica, made in Brazil, The only animal I ever shot with it was a partridge, and no, I didn't damage the bird for eating.
I did the same thing I usually do with a high powered rifle and a bird on the ground, shoot in the ground about six inches in front, knock it out of breath with the blast of dirt, take a run for it and twist it's neck before it recovers.

Possums have started to emigrate to southern Ontario in the last few years....

You can always blame global warming heh?....

Northern Ontario,
If anyone can pick-up City tv Vancouver, There is a good show at 2:00 PM that compares gun ownership between Canada and the US

I just finished watching it on City TV Toronto
Very interesting to see so many Young people interested in shooting sports even if there is not that many shooting ranges in Toronto.

It will be on the air in Vancouver at 2:00 P. M. eastern time

We get them in our neighbourhood.

BTW, 1/3rd of the United States of America is to the north of where I live and there is still a couple of hundred miles of Canada left to the south of us. I live on the same latitude as Florence, Italy here, waaaaaay up in the frozen wasteland north.

My Uncle was a country Veterinarian and he recorded the first official sighting of an opossum in the Niagara Peninsula (in the 1950's, I believe.)

The big red Cardinal bird is another such immigrant during the same time frame. You are essentially dead right. Species are moving North as it gets warmer.
