No, dividing the country is not needed now, nor is losing the confidence of the House. That is why this move by the Opposition is so clearly unnecessary......
Take a deep breath and look at the update. First of all, keep in mind it was a simple update........not a budget, which would be due in February. An update......
Now, what was so offensive in the update? As I see it, only one thing was offensive......removal of the right to strike is always offensive.......Otherwise?
Well, he didn't head immediately for deficit........as I remember, deficit spending was an issue in the campaign, which the CPC won by promising not to run one....as did Dion and Layton. Remember, our economy grew last quarter, our unemployment rate is low.........
But, Harper did not ignore the fact that there is a world-wide economic downturn. He doubled infrastructure spending, he moved to garauntee mortgages and pensions, and to lower interest rates. And he warned that further spending might be necessary, taking us to a small deficit, which might appear in the budget.
He was waiting for the new President in the USA to take office.......stimulus needs to be handled in concert with the Yanks in our integrated society.....especially in the auto sector.
All this is good. Prudent. Cautious. Good Government.
Don't kid yourself. The reason the poop hit the impeller is simple: All three opposition parties were outraged that Harper would end all subsidies to parties. They ignored the fact that the largest subsidy cut went to......the Conservative Party. This Act cost the Conservatives more money than anyone else.....and pulling the Political Parties....all of them....off the public teat was the right thing to do, even if done for the wrong reason.
So, if you don't like it, write the NDP a cheque.....I'm writing one for the Conservatives.
As far as I'm concerned, Dion, and Layton have lost their minds.......
