I have a post office box that does not allow advertising of any kind in it thanks to a little red dot on the inside. Advertising is not advertising until you look at it. Since I was in the racket for so long, I now look at ads, not for their content, but to analyze and criticize the intent and execution of the ad. I rarely notice what it is they are advertising and I rarely actually look at ads unless they are exceptionally presented. If someone bangs on my door to advertise their wares, I cross my index fingers in front of them and hiss, "Satan be gone!"

A real perfect example of Freedom of Speech, Rush Limbaugh's view of women. He had the right to say what he said, exposed him as the chauvinistic asshole he is.

People pulled advertisements and stopped listening to his show..

In this case Freedom of Speech buried him alive.
His ratings are as high or higher than they ever were and he has a long line of advertisers waiting to get on his show. You must be reading the comments on the Daily Kos.

Well he lost some big dollars- even Repubs were running away from his last comments- Clearly not all though.

Yeah I think Walter's right I recall reading that he gained more advertisers than he lost, and some who made a big production of pulling their ads have quietly re-instated them, if I'm not mistaken.

Plus Rush apologized. I'm pretty sure Palin is still waiting for an apology from Bill Maher.

The United States Supreme Court recently ruled that corporations are persons for purposes of constitutional protections under the First Amendment. Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, 558 U.S. 50 (2010). The decision has generated much criticism, some of it directed at the court, but most at corporations generally. Some say corporations are out of control: like the fictional Triffids that were cultivated to produce edible oil, they got let loose and began to infest everything. John Wyndham, The Day of the Triffids (1951).

They don't seem to mind this ruling here in the solid Democrat and US liberals state of Massachusetts. The Democrats love it and are able to raise a ton of money via Unions to combat the GOP here via this decision.

For the same reason that you have libel and slander in the Criminal Code. Only difference being, truth can never possibly be a defense for hate speech.

For instance, I can go around saying that John Doe is a pedophile, and that may or may not be true. However, if I go around saying that all gays are pedophiles, then it cannot possibly true. Bob Doe, who happens to be gay, is as much a victim as John Doe.

If you support libel and slander laws but think that hate speech is across the line on the slippery slope then you are a hypocrite.
