gerryh I agree it happened a couple of days ago but there was an incident that happened
with a South West Flight a few years ago. I am trying to remember the outcome of that
one. I believe it was a flight from Denver to Houston. Two religious leaders were talking
in their own language and passengers became afraid. Turns out the two religious leaders
were saying their prayers. I don't remember the outcome, last I had heard they were
threatening to sue what happened don't know. Your case happened in the last day or so
that is true.

The right to refuse unsafe work

One of a worker’s basic rights is the right to refuse work that they believe presents a danger to
themselves or another worker. The refusal must be reported to the employer or supervisor who
investigates the matter

I'm sure there is similar in the USA.

From the Alberta OH&S Act Handbook:

Section 2-2

Every worker shall, while engaged in an occupation,

(a) take reasonable care to protect the health and safety of the worker and of other workers present while the worker is working, and

(b) co-operate with the worker's employer for the purpose of protecting the health and safety of

(i) the worker

(ii) other workers engaged in the work of the employer, and

(iii) other workers not engaged in the work of that employer but present at the work site at which the work is being carried out.

Now, I assume the law is the same there as it is here so that raises a few questions in my mind. What specifically prompted the pilot to make this decision. The link doesn't get into the specifics as to what happened (the plane had already left the gate before the pilot returned). It's really hard to blame the pilot without all the information and I'll leave that up to the usual suspects that like to fly off the handle before getting all the facts.

What it comes down to is whether the pilot acted reasonably given his awareness, understanding and training. I don't know Atlantic Southeast's policies or training so again, it tough to call for somebody's firing when the important facts have yet to be revealed.

Actually this happened a couple of years ago as I recall that time I believe it was a
flight out of Denver but I can't remember where to. So many people are afraid of
Muslims and they are hostile to them which does not make sense.
The Western values are touted as the best way in the world, yet so many feel so
inferior to those they do not understand. Discrimination and hatred are cousins
to the main problem Fear. If our way is superior or even equal why is it that so
many, have an inferiority complex?
the law equally and without favour.

are you kidding me?, you mean these guys are argueing about something that happened 2 years ago!!!!

amazing.

Talloola, there are two different cases. The one that damngrumpy is talking about happened two years ago and the one that gerry is talking about happened a couple of days ago. Damngrumpy was just using the older case as an example.

When I read this article yesterday, it really upset me. Seeing someone use their position, a position of authority, to discriminate is abhorrent and, in my opinion, so contrary to what America stands for. Equality and freedom means just that. It does not mean equality and freedom for only those who meet the status quo. It's free, not free to be like me.

Will we ever reach a time when people are judged by the content of their character?

This pilot is a coward, using his offical status to judge two people he doesn't know, who actually went through all security measures designed to prevent danger on board, and hid behind the "concern for the other passengers".

How very accomodating of that pilot to give the witch hunt for racists new fuel for their fires!
A pilot has a responsibility to ALL of his passengers and he has the final say on who can and cannot board his plane. Many people would feel uncomfortable with two men togged up in some costume unfamiliar to them.
If the two men are really so 'peace loving' they should take it with a grain of salt and not be creating a big stink about it. They might also consider dressing in public in a way that is more compatiblle with the country they are travelling in.
What are people trying to prove when they make a spectacle of flaunting their differences?

Northern Ontario,
Am I the only one who noticed....
The plane had already left the starting gate when the pilot decided to turn back, and by then no one has access to the pilot but the crew....could it be a member of the crew that had concerns????? and why?
just askin'....
We only hear what makes the headlines....

No where in any document does it say that one person is equal to another except in the eyes of the body that governs the nation. We are free to judge each other and express those judgments openly. You have a right to pursue happiness but nowhere does it say you have a right to be happy. If being treated poorly by people who have free opinions sucks, then get out of you pajamas, put some jeans on and try getting on the plane again.
