Extreme heat, drought have ‘virtually no explanation other than climate change’

Obviously you don't weld in the sun for the better part of the day, 5 days a week.

I have this Murray McLauchlan's 'Farmer's Song' image of our flatlander friend. Cracked, folded but a tad hard. Craggy plagioclase feldspar-like freckly complexion with a Geomorphology text on the ol' tractor seat for a higher view.

I might just be taking what he says for granite though.

Anywho...I'd prefer 35F over 35C.

So whats the solution? Everyone whines but has no solutions and dont want to give up what makes their cars go and heats their house?

Any solutions or just whining?

Shut all oil production down and let inflation go to high sky levels?

What?
everyone crys but no one has a solution.

I dont think I have seen one person yet on this forum that starts topics about the global warming without ever offering some solution to it.

I believe I mentioned a long time ago that I've always loved trolleys since childhood:

This is the ideal solution to oil "shortages" [sic], the high cost of gasoline, pollution, and all the illnesses caused by auto use. Of course, we cannot live in the past. Therefore, I will accept reluctantly the new versions of these gems.

As for insulating homes, the government can easily give a couple of hundred dollars credits for these:

... and other forms of insulation which would significantly reduce home fuel costs, increase the values and lives of homes, and promote safety in winter time. Just as the government pays farmers not to grow certain commodities, the government can pay for these forms of insulation for those from low incomes. We had insulated windows installed in our apartments and they work very well to keep out the cold.

I am quite sure that there are MANY other ways to reduce oil use and to provide heat for homes that promote cleanliness and safety.

petros wrote, "How do you plan on making money from a business that will forever be trying to recoup equipment cost from equipment that wears out long before they can even pay for themselves, let alone labour and admin costs.?? You want to use taxpayer money?"

Nah, that would put me on the same level as the multinational oil companies who despite having a virtual monopoly, and captive markets, and record profits year after year, still have the audacity to use government money, our fill up cash, and a horde of lobbyists to demand subsidies from us. Hutzpah incarnate.

Besides, why would I get into a business like the one that you are proposing. Well maybe that is the oil industry mentality again. Nah, that doesn't jive with the record profits.

Still pretty cold here in Melbourne... the cold broke some records a few days ago too.... it snowed in South Africa a few days back too.....

Oh hey.... check this picture out:

^ Not too long ago the water used to be all the way to the top of those mountains and Global Warming dried it all up & turned the place to a desert.... if we don't act soon, we'll all be dead.

OH NOES!!!!! :?

With deregulation in Alberta I pay 3 bills now to get power so solar would actually be viable as we have probably the most expensive power in Canada.

I just need to find a good deal on some solar panels and I'll be not only off the grid but hopefully getting a cheque from the power company when im making more then I use.

I see in SK you only get a credit for power made?

I'm not asking for backing, but let's do this as an exersize. What are the requirements? what buildings are there? What are current energy usages? What area of SK are you in? Nearest airport with weather stats. What appliances, tools, motors, etc.?

20 kW/h constant.

Yorkton is the nearest airport.

Current rates are 12.5 cents kW/h

make sure you include all costs incurred during the service life of the equipment.

Yes there is a massive drought in the Mid Western United States but is it
Global Warming? I wonder what they called the Dust Bowl of the Dirty
Thirties? No one knew about GW then did they. These things come in
cycles and what disturbs me is, we might have more than one year of it.
What will happen then? Will Global Warming's Chicken Little suffocate
in the dust of the Midwest?
I think we are experiencing our turn at global weather pattern changes for
years it was Africa, Australia, parts of Europe and now North America.
In a few years it will be someone Else's turn.
The real problem is we have developed a commercial food policy that does
not account for drought and distribution could mean food shortages for us
in Canada. you can bet Americans will look after their own needs first. Of
course in Canada we indulged in a cheap food policy so we don't have as
many farmers or the farm output we used to have. No on is talking about
that yet and it is the real emerging problem.

"They" did know about Global warming in the Thirties. The effects, though, had not yet become obvious but the science was well understood.

Of course, as has been said very many times, the Dirty Thirties was a consequence of an extended El Nino. I don't know why you refuse to accept that. It is no secret and this warming has nothing to do with an El Nino; only with GHGs.

It is not cyclical and it is not happening in different regions of the Earth at different times. "It os not "our turn." The whole world is warming and warming more rapidly than it has ever done in the past.

And in five or ten years it will be cooling off again.

To my thinking the summers today don't hold a candle to the sizzlers we had when I was a kid. Perhaps one of the problems today is that people don't have enough to do except to sit around and fret about the weather. Kids in Cranbrook just got a $100000 grant because there is nothing to do for kids in that community.:lol::-(
Have you ignore the posted temperature charts and records? If you were a kid in 2007 or 2005, then you might be right. If you were a kid at any other time, then you have a faulty memory.

Not enough, I need to know the other information I asked for. I would also want to know what you use for heat.

just to remind you, What are the requirements? what buildings are there? What are current energy usages? What area of SK are you in? Nearest airport with weather stats. What appliances, tools, motors, etc.?

I want to use electricty. NG and wood are evil remember.
Full set of appliances and fully equipped 40x60 shop and 6 HID yard lights.

My bill says I'm using on average 76kW/h a day.

I was a kid in the 40s and 50s and no my memory is definitely not faulty about the summer of 1958...........I lived in Victoria where it was even a scorcher and over 60 days straight with no rain. I would concede that mean annual temps might be a degree or two warmer now as our winters aren't as cold but the summer extremes are no hotter. As a matter of fact if you check the almanac for B.C. for the month of July 1941 (which I did recently) you will see a handful of B.C. towns set all time temp. records. I'm going to see what I can find.

As the Stones once said, you don't always get what you want, but if you try sometime you might just find, you get what you need.
