it is free.

it is free to the student - it of course is not free to provide.

but we provide it for K-12 so why not post secondary?

I could go along with taxpayers paying for some post secondary education. Any Engineering, medical, high tech, business related studies with the provision that upon graduation they ply their trade in Canada for a minimum 10 years. Liberal arts, social services, history, lawyers etc can foot their own bill.

It is about value and return for our dollar.

Well, I needed a biopsy, and got to see the specialist within 5 days, because there was a concern that it was major issue.
Good thing it wasn't a knee. Six weeks minimum just to see a specialist. Don't even know what city yet.

having students graduate debt free would not change any things?

It still wouldn't change the number of seats available. Or their entrance into the club after graduationg.

no but painful

on vancouver island we have a roving MRI machine and you typically have to wait 5 or 6 weeks for it to come to town. Friends of mine with joint problems have gone downtown and paid the $800 to have ot done right away and get their treatment going.

btw I am currently on a wait list to see and ear/nose/throat specialist. it will be in the order to a year and a half.

so I am well aware of the current state of affairs in Canada. We have excellent health care but it is hard to access it. Once you get in you get great care.

You must have political or personal clout because nobody who is nobody gets to see a specialist in 5 days unless you go see Dr. Day in his private clinic .

nothing to speak of. Nothing like daycare which was really expensive.

making post secondary education free would result in many more health care professionals in Canada.

that would only improve healthcare and reduce wait times.
We have the necessary medical practitioners but they can't get operating time due to bureaucratic rationing of operating theaters .

no we don't. Our local ear nose throat guy has a wait list of over a year. that has nothing to do with bureaucratic rationing or operating theaters. that has to do with too few doctors.

edit in and I live in a attractive place - isolated communities are in even worse shape.

Obviously, you don't have all that much experience with the medical system. It's not uncommon at all.

and of course education should not be limited to meaning academic training in colleges and universities. Apprenticeship training should also be promoted and paid for. In fact the North Island College on Van Isle is expanding their trades training facilities all the time. Foundation courses in the trades are a hard ticket to get there because everyone wants them.

Find a need and fill it

Speaking of Vernon Jubilee Hospital, the doctors here seem to have a good sense of the urgency of your condition and in my case proper arrangements have been made in a timely manner.

More then enough experience , obviously you think our system is run in an efficient and timely manner . One year wait times are neither efficient nor timely .

I believe Healthcare is an exception, basically the only service upon which lives may depend. I personally don't want to see my money tied up in any other Gov't funds, plans or endeavours. Gov'ts basically don't know how to handle money. Once education goes that route, who knows what will be next? Groceries???

You don't want government involved in education?
