Just google avatars. Lots of them out there. Being an artist I prefer to use my own art.

Just be careful when doing this. Some sites offering "smilies" and/or "Avatars" can be full of virus-laden images. The majority of sites are safe.

Since IslandPacific ( all for you my friend ) didn't think she could ask the question I did it for her.

Does your Avatar have a specific meaning ?

If so can you share the story ?
Awww, that's nice Sir Francis. I appreciate you doing that for me.

Thanks you guys, you learn something new every day.
JLM, I just google "forum sized avatars" because it does state that they need to be a certain size. Each time I've added one it tells me that it's not the right size but it put it on anyway.

Mine is probably pretty self explanatory too. Island Pacific (or as Cliff calls me: Island Specific), and the ocean just seemed to go together. I spent one evening trying to find something "me" to use. After looking at page after page I happen to come across the one I have and it simply seemed good enough for now at least.
Cliff I never realized that was your own work. It's very lovely.

Thanks IslandSpecific. The mountain (Frog Mountain) is the sacred mountain of the Sinixt people and the ski is a sunset in the Slocan Valley. The sword and shield were from the cover of a workshop brochure I did about ten years ago.

Yes. It is a Photoshop montage of a couple of photos i took and a digitally enhanced drawing I did.

Cliffy; I really do like your work, (and am a bit jealous :angry3:). I had the inspiration years ago and enjoyed it despite memories of my grade 10 art teacher, but I've since lost it. My wife and kids recently even bought me a new complete set of oils, brushes and a few mounted canvases, (is that a word? you know what I mean) to get me out of my funk. I feel I owe it to them to do something, but the inspiration just ain't coming back.

As soon as I started my profile here, I immediately went in search of something suitable to use as an avatar. Out of several hobbies I enjoy, I decided to go with target shooting and chose a Beretta handgun. I only shoot rifles and shotguns, but I've alwayz liked the Beretta.

And now I will never, ever, change it. It was a huge ordeal for me to change my profile pic on my bio page, to change my avatar seems sacrilegious.

I guess I'm dumb when it comes to installing an avatar, but here is the one I want installed if anyone can help.

JLM, first save it to your computer ( for most its Desktop or MyDocuments )..

Then ( if on the new Forum ) click on Settings at the top "Right Corner".. Then Select "Avatar" and then click on the browse at the bottom of that page and find the location of the Avatar on your computer.. Click on it and hit Save ( Upload ).

For most it is easiest to save the Avatar to the Desktop..

Cheers

I first heard of an avitar from CSI, and then my kids, but anyway, my avitar is me.

To make a short story long, this is a photo taken of me warming up a Noorduyn Norseman MKV (I'll bet you get it now ;-)) for a test flight that had been force landed into trees after a supercharger failure on take off and wrecked years before. I offered to buy it from my boss but he wanted to re build and re use it, (oddy, that probably wouldn't have happened if I hadn't made such an acceptable offer) and I helped with the re assembly.

Due to my past experience on that type I ended up as the test pilot, a requirement for re issue of the Certificate of Airworthiness. Oddly, ten minutes after this photo was taken, during takoff, the engine quit 8O, fortunately I was made aware of some (possible) irregularities with the fuel system and was able to restart it in a timely manner and complete the flight. There where a few white knuckles in the crowd that day when the noise stopped, (but none whiter than mine). We did figure out how to fix the fuel plumbing problem and I flew that airplane for two more years without incident before I left their employ.

A long short story, but I'm working on a book too, I should have it back to the library before it's due.

I think my avatar can better explain my often obnoxious nature better than my posts, so when people see my avatar they don't have to bother posting something to me that I already know.

Cool avitar, I like it. I had to have my daughter show me how to do it, we luddites still have to stick together.

Go spend some time alone in the wilderness by a lake and just watch. Normally we are too busy to be inspired. I still am inspired by my life in the forest and I haven't spent that much time in the forest since I was hit by that logging truck 29 years ago.

JLM, I just google "forum sized avatars" because it does state that they need to be a certain size. Each time I've added one it tells me that it's not the right size but it put it on anyway.

I think they are automatically shrunk down to the proper size if they are too large, so anything should work.

Glad I got that little mission accomplished, after all, as one poster succinctly pointed out to me awhile back to the effect that not having an avatar more or less relegates me to a sub human designation.:lol::lol:
