Bring in the new year with style!

Today it is official, Our Great Prime Minister Harper has "prorogued" parliament today, closing the doors until March 2010. All the bills that were still on the "Order Paper" DIE there permamantly. This includes bill c-27, the nonsence "anti-spam" bill that so many hardheads were trying to pass for the longest time, pouring their bleeding hearts into making it become law and it was so close to being aproved yet now it has been beautifully put to death.

This Glorious day where I among many others in the industry can yell out true Victory on those who oppose our marketing metheods and how we value the freedoms of being Canadian and operating on Canadian soil, where silly "anti-spam" or as we call it "anti-marketing" laws are non-existant and we all can operate fully within the laws of our great homeland, ensuring our freedom to mass market our products or services to the very responsive general public.

The Antis (supporters) of the anti-spam bill c-27 can certainly apply to bring back the proposed bill into Parliament, however it MUST be REINTRODUCED as a fresh NEW BILL, starting all over again from the FIRST READING. That is their right, as is my right to enjoy watching them waste all their time and energy for a second round of worthless effort playing their broken record to whoever is willing to lend an ear, while I and others like myself continue to operate within the laws of this glorious and free country.

A happy new year to all and a very profitable one as well.

Gee Whiz, Buddy....has it occured to you that if (in your consideration) the anti-spam bill was the MOST important thing before Parliament.........maybe, perhaps........prorogation makes sense............and you should get a life?????

If you believe that a prorogation is simply a ‘delay’, then your grasp of parliamentary procedure and the Canadian constitution is weak (at best). Prorogation has also killed all Government bills (such as the dozen-or-so much-heralded Conservative justice bills — you know, the ones that are now apparently not as important as they’d been shouting in the House), and disrupted the work of committees (much to the delight of the Conservatives, since they apparently have something to hide on the Afghan torture issue). There was nothing routine about this prorogation, it was a clearly political ploy, and a shameful abuse of the privileges of the prime minister’s office.

Any move towards mandatory sentencing....I'm glad they are dead.

Here I must disagree with you once again, and this is a topic on which I am most passionate. We are presently participating in an armed intervention — Canada is not, in real or constitutional terms, “at war”. Should we be? Yes, I believe so. However, to do that, the prime minister must recommend to Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D., the Governor General of Canada, that a declaration of war be made. This is something that neither of the last three prime ministers have been willing to do.

In my view, we owe it to ourselves and to the people of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to take our role there seriously — this current half-assed ‘intervention’ is unacceptable. I feel that we should either (a) declare war and dedicated the entirety of our resources to the defeat of terrorism out of Afghanistan, or (b) admit that it isn’t as important as we’d led on, and pull out entirely. I don’t believe that this is time for a gray area — we should either be completely into it, or leave it to someone who has the dedication to do so (because right now, with this and the former Government, that isn’t us).

I actually agree with much of what Travers says in the article....but you should carefully note that he lists every PM since Trudeau doing the same thing.......this could have been avoided, had the people of Canada given Reform a chance to change the political system.......but the people of Canada chose to stay with the old system.......and Harper has the awesome responsibility of holding together a coalition of Old Reformers, ex-PCs, disaffected Liberals....in other words, a party that has a tent full of difering views, sometimes diametrically opposing views.....which only he can keep welded together in the public eye.........if you doubt the damage "free and open" debate among the caucus causes, simply glance across the floor at the Liberals....who simply are unable to control the splits in the party.....

No, I don't think Harper is perfect....in fact, I dislike a lot of his agenda, and am open to other alternatives, of which I once thought Ignatieff might be the best....

I did note that and I have said repeatedly that Harper learned much of how he centralizes power from Cretien....to bad cons think it's only okay when a Tory PM does it.

I said that years ago, never liked the man, never saw why some Libs dragged him here in the first place. As far as a party re-builder I always saw that job being left to Rae or McKenna. Instead we are stuck with a guy who will bolt right back to the U.S. as soon as he gets booted out of the party.

I don't think Canadians are in Afghanistan to kill people, I think they are there to provide some security for Afghans, provide training for Afghan military and cops, and stuff like that. IMO, there's a big difference between Canada's military and the USA's.

I'll try not to go in circles here........but I already said I disagreed with much of what Harper stands for.....

as for " selling out his principles", well, all I can say is the FIRST thing you learn in Poly Sci 101 is that principled parties always LOSE in a democracy. Because to stand for a principle means you alienate a certain part of the population.....the more principles you have, the greater number of folks that will never vote for you....so successful politicians, by definition, are unprincipled. Unfortunate, but as Churchill said "Democracy is the worst of all possible systems....except for all the rest." Man was a genius.

Still..... No Viable Alternative....pick the best of the worst. And because of their stance on foreign affairs, gun control, the Global Warming idiocy, etc etc....Harper and the CPC are the best. In my eyes, anyway.

BTW I have voted for a heck of a lot of parties......The NDP for years (believe it or not) the PCs, Reform, Canadian Alliance, and the Conservative Party of Canada.......I hardly follow any party blindly....why I even voted Liberal (McKenna) provincially....once. lol.
