Towards the Creation of the US-Canada Police State. "Counterterrorism" and War on Drugs used to Justify Sweeping Reforms

Here we go. (once again a demonstration of just how useful the terrorism and drug issue is to politicians.. with fear mongering being the basic componant )

The fear has worked very well on the US population. Will Canadians get brainwashed too??

Dana Gabriel: Creation of US-Canada Police State. "Counterterrorism" and War on Drugs to Justify Sweeping Reforms

how the two gov'ts have used the fear/ terrorist issue makes them something to "fear" more than some social misfits .

How long will "terrorism" be the excuse to bring into effect policies that erode at the rights of the populations??

Now that they are penetrating the internet , one is not as free to say what one thinks. ( another freedom being eroded ) This kind of silencing tactic has happened through out history and One would have thought we had all gotten past it. Not so. The basic gov't wants as much control over its population as it always had. Just the tactics have changed.

Biased or not, I do think freedoms are constantly attacked in the name of "security" and probably because of crony capitalism.
Call me a cynic is you want.

I do agree. But reading the topics shows in my opinion an agenda.

In that both countries have over reacted - Having common polices on trade etc I have no problem with. Exchange of information on Canadian Citzens as we have seen, Canada does a shxtty job.

Law of Social Cycle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to Batra (1978), the West is currently in the age of acquisitors, also known as Capitalism. This age succeeded the 'age of intellectuals', which gave birth to the Enlightenment and the British parliamentary system. Before that the West went through the 'age of warriors' and the age of discovery. Feudalism, an earlier 'age of acquisitors', reigned before that. It had replaced the 'age of intellectuals', with restrictions on religious thought and also gave birth to the Renaissance period. Before that, Rome ruled the West under the aegis of warriors.

To Sarkar, each age would run its course, with the social motivity going too far, causing much grief to the majority of people (Sarkar, 1967). The situation could go on unchecked for a long time, before things got so bad that a spontaneous revolution and overthrow of the system took place. In fact, as this was the reason for social change, it was clear that no single class of people could remain dominant indefinitely. Social power was destined to pass from one class to next in the prescribed order, or cycle. The 'age of warriors', which brings strict order to society and a return to fundamental values, essentially leads to excessive focus on strong man rule and warfare. It is followed by an 'age of intellectuals', which bring a sense of liberation in the mental sphere but soon replace that freedom with the yoke of newer ideas. Over time this age merges into an 'age of acquisitors', which brings progress in the material sphere, but this is soon replaced by increased physical and mental exploitation. The Servile Wars spelled the doom of the Roman Republic. Labour conflict could be the undoing of Capitalism, according to this theory. And so the cycle moves on its endless round, until the civilization ceases to exist or is taken over by a superior or more powerful civilization.

I don't believe anybody is trying to create a police state. It is just the natural progression as people become more fearful and are willing to give up their own freedom and liberty to feel safe.

Really? Buses and trains have security these days, Canadian border guards can pack sidearms, can't pay cabbies with cash in cities anymore, hospital staff, EMTs, firefighters, etc. need ID tags, internet is monitered for certain keywords, and so on.
But I don't particularly think anyone's trying to bring about a police state either. Well, except for the Gliberals a few years back with their gun control crap.

Doesn't mandatory sentences qualify, if possession of pot will get you jail then overdue parking will do the same thing, billed to you or the taxpayer. Each night making several $100/day for the new private prison authority, sorry I mean 'labor pool' to do the jobs the 'immigrants on visas' refuse to do.

With private road tolls will be accessed via cameras and paid for @ each gas fillup you do. No pay, no gas for that plate #.

As long as I remember hospital staff had IDs. Our EMTs and firemen don't. I pay cash for cabs when I am traveling in big cities.

At any rate, Breezy is trying to say that other's are fearful and brainwashed... yet starts a thread predicting the possibility of a police state. It sounds like she's afraid.

I suppose it varies between regions and countries. Cabbies in Vancouver won't accept any more than $20 in cash, I think, so if you are going downtown from the airport, you better have a credit card or something. Not every place requires IDs for first responders, but some do. When I became a firefighter in the Okanagan, we didn't need them, but after a few years we did. Same for EMTs.
I see cams up in streets, these days, too.
It doesn't really bother me much.

I agree with you about some people's paranoia, though. Just the thought of "Big Brother" creates fear in some people.

.....and lint, and dog hair (& dog toys), and the occasional odd sock, and
sometimes the book I can't find, etc....
... and wifey's toys. lol

Sounds like your dogs spend a little time stashing provisions under the bed.

Mind you, I am impressed that they opt to take a little literature with them... Do they prefer the classics or fiction?
