Dion sure seemed to be in a daze at the press conference. Thankfully there are two other party leaders to keep him in line, because he certainly isn't capable to do it himself...

Flaherty sounded unusually subdued. While his future was not discussed, questions about his role as finance minister can be expected now that the economic strategy has blown up in the government's face

Well, its certainly not a 'given' that the three stooges will be in power. Its up to the Governor General.

Ohhhh yeahhh!...Coalition!.. ..You can tell all the people that are being privately funded by conservative interests..Their the one's yellin and sreamin all over the radio!! and media.!...Charles Adler...How much do you get for backin conservatives?...Listened to Stratford whinenin all mornin.(lol)...John Downs is cool though!..All will change for the better in a couple of weeks ,as long as the governor general agree's with the coalition....I don't see any reason why she wouldn't agree!!...Wonder where she went??

I noticed there are a lot of helpful bills going through the house in the next couple months..I think the majority of people will be happy to see!....Dion is a good man..NDP will see the benefits in a couple years..Quebec is a great place..They have there ++++ together..I think they will be just fine with their new power!....Everyone including the conservatives will be better off for this coalition in the long hall...It is about time the house finally does something to regain democracy. It will Restore confidence!.It may not seem like it right at the moment ,but this move is necessary to get the house back in proper working order..I.....What about the greens?...Well if their smart ,they'll just stay out of it!..Although they aren't really even in it ..At the present!...lol...

This coalition will set things right!!..Great move Gov.....WWWWOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Layton and Dion just signed the papers for a coalition. What a way to royally screw up the economy. It is stated that will make Dion the leader for 2.5 yrs. now. Nothing but a power trip for Layton and for the Liberal Party that is leaderless. This country is screwed like never before. I will vow here and now to never ever vote for the Liberals or the NDP again. I despise both parties for what they have done. I talk to a lot of people in a day and I know I am not alone in my thoughts.

Good day to you I.P, with fairness and all do respect Harper resolved parliament and asked the G.G for an election based on the fact that parliament had reached the point of disfunctionalety as he called it, after the election Harper has a better minority almost a majority, and instead of telling the people the plan to economic safety, he takes on the oppositions and the civil servants. The man is an opportunist, if Harper had his way he would make it illegal for Canada to have any opposition, much like Germany the right wing got so powerful financially they ended up buying the Left……to maintain Governing power for them self’s
Monopoly governments do not work best for the people…

Harper will be wearing this
sadden lose of power for a long long time.

Thank God for that - hope she has more brains than they do.

The King-Byng thing......1926, I think.

Willie King had a minority, which fell soon after an election. King went to Viscount Byng, the GG, and requested a new election. Byng refused........asking the second largest party to form a gov't. They did, but lasted only a very sdhort time before they, in turn, were defeated. King went to the people in the subsequent election screaming bloody blue murder because the GG had refused his initial request for an election.....something like "Who runs this country! The GG or the PM?"

King won a majority.

I wonder if Harper dares ask for dissolution?

The fact of the matter is, this is Democracy and this is what people voted for.

They did not vote to give the conservatives a majority. He was not given a mandate by the Canadian people to make laws without his own coalition.

He went on an agenda that most elected representatives and voters reject.

He should have (From day 1) formed his own coalition with the nearest ideological party (the Liberals in this case)

And tailored his platform to fit the mandate he was given from the people. He did not, and he rejected control of Parliment by refusing to obey his mandate.

Don't forget, Harper was not elected to be a prime minister. Prime Minister is not a directly elected position.

He was elected to represent his riding. His party nominated him leader of that party. His party did not win enough seats to unilaterally control parliment, thus he is only prime minister at parliments pleasure. He has lost support.

Now, perhaps thats not the way our government should be run. Perhaps we should have some electoral reform.

Im all for that. But the conservatives have had ample opportunity over the decades (as have the liberals) to change the system. No one has.

The time to change the electoral system is when it benefits your party, not when its going to screw you over, that screams of desperation and self interest.

Excellent post Zzarchov

A clear, concise, objective, laying out of the situation without the excess emotion.
