I really do not see how this can be considered a bash to Liberals at this time.. Liberals have had their own issues but none of these seats were any bastions of Liberal strongholds.. That said, had the Liberal shadow cabinet put some effort in these by-elections and made a decent showing it might have rallied the troops but everyone seems to be on a crusade to CYA.

Iggy has to show back bone as we have no real "official opposition" at this time and no matter how you cut that its not good for democracy.. I highly doubt Jack can step up to the task on a long tiem basis. The only party to come close to match the Conservatives in donations wa the Liberals and that is the only positive they have this year.

I am not sure they lack the confidence. The Liberals know they would lose some seats as do the NDP. I think the NDP know they would lose about 12 seats and this is why they changed their toon, saying instead of opposing the Gov't, they are going to work with the Gov’t.
I see in the MacLean’s magazine, some of the writers say that they think the Ignatieff is the Village Idiot. I wonder if the reason is because someone in the Liberal party is making him look very bad on purpose, not that that is a bad thing.

That's good they are more or less as incompetent as any party and we sure as hell haven't got $.3 billion to fund another election in any less than three years. Iggy can go back to Moscow anytime as far as I'm concerned.

Although I'm not in a big rush to see the end of them, VanIsle, I don't think they should be given too much encouragement- personally I'd like to see them carry on for three more years, but all the time feeling they are about 3 hours from an election.

Let's see. The Afghanis have been at war for a thousand years or more. They are a tribal nation with the tribes fighting each other and foreigners forever. Where do you see peace loving people? They are trying to expel us from their country because they don't want us there any more than they wanted the British or the Russians interfering in their internal affairs. If they had wanted democracy they would have adapted it a hundred years ago. We have no reason to be there except to protect the poppy fields. As usual you live in a fantasy land.

No gerry, I don't think they will increase the defence budget. The troops are supposed to be coming home in about a year. Let's just hope it happens. I really cannot see the Conservatives keeping their status that they are enjoying at this moment unless they bring the troops home. That is the promise.

The biggie here Cliff was simply to see how strong Ignatieff's leadership role was holding up and it seems to be failing miserably. I think the Liberal party is in effect, still without a leader. Bet it's not long until they seek out someone new.

Your clueless Cliffy! The majority of people albeit may not favor the US but people want peace. People have families and livelihoods, not to mention that free thought rules in lives of everyday, normal people. And when you get right down to it, everyday people in Afghanistan just want peace and freedom like all people.

Freedom comes at a cost. And as a nation that is fortunate enough to have God given rights and freedoms, it is our spirited duty to defend the ideals of freedom of thought, speech, expression, worship and association for all people.

I think you are tarring ALL Afghans with the same brush, Cliff, I would guess that 90% of Afghans are just as peace loving as you and me. People is people.
