Norwegians live in an oasis created by easy oil profits. They are not more gifted or prescient than individuals in other western countries. And what they have today is a problem. Given that one Islamist radical group has already claimed responsibility for the terrorism it behooves Norwegians to hold their government accountable for a full hearing on what's behind this tragedy. Your approach merely gives excuse to maintain the status quo.

I am not offering any kind of "approach". It is silly to assume that a thorough investigation will not be held.....or that necessary changes won't be introduced.

If they need assistance and ask for it.......fine. Otherwise..... outsiders should be supportive but NOT to intefere or meddle. Most of all, lets avoid the finger pointing and accusations before the evidence is in. They will let the world know soon as they KNOW , who actually was behind these criminal acts. They will follow the evidence trail and investigate exhaustively. They don't take their laws lightly either.

That's shocking. First it was five, then maybe seven. Another source ventured the possibility of fifteen. But eighty? A lone gunman killed eighty people? That's devastating.

And now news releases insist the tragedy was entirely homegrown without any terror group connection. Looks like reports are coming in on the fly. Hopefully, we'll know the exact story within a few days.

TRAGIC doesn't describe it. All the more important to not jump to conclusions as to who was behind it . And just as important , not to take all the initial reports as final .......Let them do what they need to do amidst this crisis and tragedy..... and give them the space to do it without over bearing commentary about them or to them while they are in such shock.

Given the background of tragedy afflicting the planet over the last ten years and the numerous contradictions spawned by media during their coverage, anything is possible. We'll get new twists every hour. What intrigues me now is how a single person was able to kill so many people at a campground. That baffles.

Ahh, so it's just as likely to be Al Qaeda as it is to be the Islamic Women's Group of Norway? You bigots are pathetically predictable.

Yep.....they are the first to crawl out of the woodwork when a crime like this happens. and finger pointing for all to see. After all , why wait for FACTS??? Or EVIDENCE...

Well, I agree some are a little quick to blame the Mohammedans......but they are certainly not lacking reason, or precedent.

The vast majority of terror attacks are committed by.....the Amish perhaps?????

Norway is heavily Pro-Palestinian State and it was a holiday so it wasn't an attack on Goovt by some Islamic group.

Check the CIA stats on terrorism against America. Amish would be near the top of the list just for starting with A.

I think the Anarchists of NYC still top the list in %ages

Blond haired shooter, so the question is now whether it is connected to extreme Islamics ... but an Islamic group has claimed responsibility.

would suggest all is just too soon to be definatively accurate . Let alone final. These groups take credit whether it was them or not. and have even less credibility than an ant on your sidewalk. IMHO......Let the evidence unfold and see how it all shakes down later.

In the meantime ......caring thoughts to the victims and their families and friends etc. Dealing with such a crisis is more than traumatic. Particularly when the media is nipping at the heels for updated info every few seconds. and wanting everyone on the street to play "witness" for the telie.

Norway Police Say at Least 80 Killed in Youth Camp Shooting

At least 80 people were killed on Friday when a gunman stalked youths at an island summer camp for young members of the governing Labor Party, the police said on national television early Saturday.

Before the shooting attack, explosions in Oslo killed seven people and wounded at least 15, the police said, according to the state television broadcaster.

After the shooting the police seized a 32-year-old Norwegian man on the island, according to the police and Justice Minister Knut Storberget. He was later identified as Anders Behring Breivik and was characterized by officials as a right-wing extremist.

The man was arrested in connection with both attacks.

sure there is "precident'..........but that does not excuse the knee jerk reaction and assumptions that are made. Reason/ logic and INVESTIGATIONS must be used to determine who is behind these events on an individual basis. Once the evidence is in ......and the suspects are indicated....only then can one discuss the suspects in question......regardless of what flavor they take.

the entire terrorist issue has been dramatized and sensationalized to the point of rediculous and in keeping with that.....nut cases of all kinds are prepared to "terrorize" for their few moments of fame. Particularly if they are social misfits , extremists of one stripe or another .

Who benefited from this crime .......even if the benefit was perverse for the rational to comprehend.

The article I just finished in the gloom&wail named the suspect as a Norwegian and then went on to include a few paragraphs about a non linked muslim cleric that threatened a minister with death if he was booted out of the country. Had to read the article twice to figure out the muslim had absolutely nothing to do with either the bombings in Oslo or the murders at the youth camp.

Reports are that someone dressed as a policeman is randomly shooting people just outside of Oslo right now.

Norway is taking action against a radical Islamic cleric and is involved in the Afghan war. They also reprinted the infamous Mohammed cartoons. So its not a stretch that a radical Muslim extremist is behind the attacks. BTW, I was in Oslo on business just 2 months ago. I was working in the suburbs, but I did stroll around downtown and I recognize the street from the photos.

Gotta watch them extreme right wing conservatives. Dangerous lot ya know. Harper, Yukon Jack, gun totin' Colpy... can't be too careful, ya can't.

LOL......... yep. ;-)

.......seriously........the point is NOT to jump to conclusions about it being Terrorism Islam variety. which far too many are prone to do. We as a so called civilized people MUST stop that knee jerk reactivity and wait until the evidence is in with the investigators indicating their initial suspicions etc etc.
