I've got westerns from long ago, right up to present,
and there are fabulous westerns from all times. Some
of the new ones, like I mentioned above are top notch,
and some of the old ones stink.

Unforgiven is quite new, and very very good.
The big country, very old, is excellent.

Unforgiven was produced in 1992, not exactly new....

The Big Country (Gregory Peck, Lee Majors, Burl Ives, Jean Simmons etc.etc.) had more excellent movie stars than there are in Hollywood today. Oh yeah, can't forget Chuck Connor's snivelling just before he got gut shot.

what are you talking about re: old westerns, Tom Mix?
anything after l990 is new to me, as there were so many before that,
and many of them are very 'stupid' when seen now days.

Watched High Noon not long ago, not bad after all these years.
watched 'shane', also not bad, but borderline.
the cowboys is a great old western, john wayne, but some of his stuff
also watched red river, john wayne, montgomery cliff, still very good.
is just too old, and seem silly.

I still like the real oldies, even though some of them show guns that never run out of bullets and horses than can run 50 miles flat out, without a break! But the good guy always wins, and he's usually the one wearing a white cowboy hat. Ah, the good old days! (When men were men, and women were glad of it!)...

Yeah, I can go along with that, but can't watch some of
the oldies, just too fake.

some of those men should have been shot with a ball of
their own 'sh*t'. and yes, the one's with the white hats
were perfect, but always rode off into the sunset, and
left the pretty lady standing at the gate.

It's amazing how those horses didn't ever eat, and as you
say, ran flat out for 50 miles, or more.

No one ever took food with them, and no wonder those horses
never produced manure, they had nothing in them. lol

I think Lee Majors is still alive, Charles Bickford is long dead, so is Chuck Connors and Burl Ives of course. I'm not surre about Carrol Baker. Bickford was a famous Character actor.

Another Movie I really loved with John Wayne (but probably not strictly Western genre) was "The Quiet Man", it had everything- drunkeness, comedy and of course that Irish music.

I forgot about charles bickford, great actor.

He starred as Henry Tyrrel. They were having a housewarming party when the Hennessey's rode in and raised Hell, beautiful scene between Bickford and Burl Ives I guess on a previous occasion Bickford had gone over to Hennesseys in high dudgeon over something or other and sent the livestock scattering, anyway old Hennessy was fit to be tied. You just don't see movies of that calibre today. But then that was pretty close to '59..........................................:lol::lol::lol:

Once Upon a Time in the West - bizarre, but a classic with several great stars.
Magnificent Seven - the favourite of many
High Noon
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre - classic B&W with Humphrey Bogart in one of his best roles.
Shane

I've almost certainly missed a bunch, but I regard the above as classics.
