Almost all new jobs created during the pandemic were in the public sector, report finds.

So we are fishing LaPerosa Bank and spending the night on the outskirts of the fleet , I wake in the morning and pee over the side . Imagine my surprise when the stream is bouncing back . Here on the side is a False Killer Whale and her calf resting using the boat as a sonar screen . I watched them for a half hour or so until they left with daylight . Very intelligent looking eyes .
Dude, we don't need to hear your fantasies, if that's where your imagination takes you and that's what gets you wound up then so be it, but you should probably keep it to yourself. We get it - you fantasize about peeing on marine mammals. I don't think we need any indie porn novels on the subject.

Not private at all. They used to be maybe years ago but are part of the public system so no, we don't have private hospitals as such in Canada!

Comox. Campbell River that I know of for sure.
Not private at all. They're part of the public health system. You may want to call the private surgical centers hospitals but I'm not since not everyone can afford to access them. Didn't B.C. take the one surgical place to court to stop them from operating? I never did hear anything back. Guess I'll google 🤷

They are privately owned. Catholics.
Well the catholics and oddfellows and such are kind of a different class than 'private' but still - they're gov't controlled facilities that are owned by an independent, but they're not independent hospitals.

Yes they are and have been for a long time. They needed to be part of the Healthcare system when the Canada Health Act was created. I can chose to go to any hospital including the Catholic ones and I have! No charge - in fact my hip replacement was done in one of them. No different from any other hospital except for the name of the institution.

Thats not what private means.

The Catholic Bishops of Alberta lead Covenant Health, a separate board within AHS comprising 23 hospitals and health facilities.
Covenant Health has the largest budget and covers the largest geographic area of any public Catholic health agency in Canada. Where the trend in other provinces has been to gradually absorb such agencies into the secular system, Covenant has lately been growing.

Growing.....as in spending profits on expansion.

Today Covenant Health accounts for 10 per cent of ER visits in the province, 20 per cent of deliveries and 12 per cent of acute care beds. Its 2015 budget was $895-million, or roughly 5 per cent of the provincial health budget. Covenant remains largely dependent on public funding—88 per cent of its revenue in 2015 came from the government. Its budget has grown over the past few years as Covenant builds long-term care facilities.

CEO Patrick Dumelie says Covenant works under “dual accountability.” Its board has a commitment to AHS, which sets annual targets for quality and cost. But Covenant must also adhere to policies set by the Catholic Bishops of Alberta. These men, the leaders of the seven dioceses spanning Alberta and the Northwest Territories, approve appointments to an intermediary board entitled Catholic Health of Alberta, which appoints Covenant’s 11-person board. The Most Reverend Richard Smith, Archbishop of Edmonton, also holds one of the Covenant Health board positions. (Smith was appointed archbishop by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007.)

Sigh. Catholic agencies don't make 'profits'. What, you think the bishops get a cut of the action based on 'shares' or something? They are literally a not-for-profit organizaiton.

And it's right there in your own quote - "a separate board within AHS"

Within the Alberta Health Services. The Gov't organization that runs health. In short - gov't run.

They spend donations they recieve from others. Not profits. And they are controlled and accountable to the gov't. On top of that they have policies set by their not-for-profit religious org. But their operation and funding is gov't.

If you thought that was a 'private hospital', you were sadly mistaken. It's a not for profit org which provides facilities and some administration on behalf of the gov't. yeash.

As a growing non-profit they are forced into growth.

So tell me, where is it written that says they cant facilitate a private cash turning operation or two?

WCB for example gets first dibs over the public and they arent public funded.

Sports teams never wait for players to go through waiting. Where do they go? US? Nope!

I... i don't even know what to say to that..... a growing thing is forced into growing. Kay.

In any case Covenant health is not forced into growing. Nor are they doing so from some sort of 'surplus' money they 'make'. They get government funding, grants and donations. They don't 'make a profit'.

88% of their income is by providing service on the public dime.

The other 12%? Vending machines?

Do.. NA.. tons.. And grants. I literally just said that and it's not the first time i have. It's website says that. Seriously Petros - you don't even take the time to read the stuff you're quoting from OR the replies and then you're startled when nobody takes you seriously or thinks much of your opinion on these things. They're a church org - they get donations and they get research and other grants which is gov't money issued by another agency.

Seriously man - if you can't even be bothered to read plain english and get your head around things there's no point in even opening your mouth,

Show me where this private healthcare provider doesn't or can't rent out its facilities for use outside the Provincial formula.
