In Canada, what should you NOT say.

OK, enough of the Texas bashing. You've had your fun. I asked a serious question.

In Canada, what should you not say?

I only gave that example since it was in a recent post, and it struck me that it is not something you would say in Texas. Can you call the Queen a b*tch? Can you use the N-word in private conversation? What do the other Canadians call the Quebec folks?

I already know one word that you can't say in Canada. My best friend told me. It is a silly meaningless word in the US. What are some of the others? Incidentally, you would not say you are Jewish either here, unless your relationship with that given person is beyond a passing acquaintance.

Uncle

You thought I was bashing Texas?

Quite the opposite.

In Canada, don't say "I hate Canadian beer"

In Canada, what should you NOT say.

You should not say that global zionist bankers have just pried the door off the US treasury with the help of the bribed to a man congress. And it marks the point of no return for Uncle Sham. I'm torn between weeping for the soon to be brutalized American or ecstatic joy at the pain of the great Satan. I'll have to flip. Either way the wars will bloom.

OK, enough of the Texas bashing. You've had your fun. I asked a serious question.

And you got serious responses... and of course, I asked some serious questions as well in regards to what you used as an example..... sorry but a debate works both ways or it's not a debate.

In Canada, what should you not say?

Anything that could be related to racist or hate speech which could lead you to be legally charged with a crime.... other then that, there's nothing that I experienced within the country that would cause a reaction as you described in Texas.... which is why I asked the questions I did.

Just because someone asked a question or made a comment that doesn't complement something you like, doesn't make it "Bashing"

I haven't even begun to do that yet.

I only gave that example since it was in a recent post, and it struck me that it is not something you would say in Texas. Can you call the Queen a b*tch?

Sure can and have.

Can you use the N-word in private conversation?

Depends on the person you talk to..... but I won't hang around someone who is openly racist.... why should I end up getting my ass kicked over what some tool said that I don't believe or agree with?

What do the other Canadians call the Quebec folks?

Sometimes whiners, but it's no different then people saying the same thing about those who live in the Maritimes. If you can't take it, don't dish it out I say.

I already know one word that you can't say in Canada. My best friend told me. It is a silly meaningless word in the US. What are some of the others?

And what word would that be?

Duct Tape? No wait that's two..... but seriously, I haven't a clue what word you mean.

Incidentally, you would not say you are Jewish either here, unless your relationship with that given person is beyond a passing acquaintance.

Uncle

So any religion other then Christianity should be kept hidden and not to talk about it?

Sorry Uncle, but, a mental disconnect occurred in that your OP doesn't actually ask a question. I tend to forget about the title when reading the meat of the OP, and reply to that rather than the title. If Dexter hadn't pointed out the context of the two taken together, it would have been completely lost. I'll try to keep that in mind in the future.

The point was that saying any of those at a social gathering will result in either a fierce rebuke, like you have provided, or fewer and fewer people willing to chat with you. You don't have to believe them. You could also go with the ultimate, 'That George W is one smart guy'. You have to time that statement well so that no one is drinking or eating when you say it or you might get sprayed.

Ah, I get it.

It would be like saying things like....

The bible is a fairy tale

War is bad

I have sympathy for the poor

People should have background checks before they can buy guns in case they are nuts

Iraq was a mistake

Health care should be a right not a privilege

I like France

I'm not afraid of black people

Other cultures are important

.....in the U.S.

I have no idea what you could say to a Canadian to get them going. I suppose it depends on the person.

The government gets upset about "hate" speech and will haul you in front of a kangaroo tribunal and sacrifice you before the gods of liberty. That's about all I can think of.

Obviously, you've never been to the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia...........

Technically that would only fly on one small part of South Mountain. The rest of the valley scorns and shuns the Goler clan.

The only good thing about texas is the cowboy cheerleaders....

I've met them. I seen them perform in person. I've stood in the tunnel as they enter and leave Cowboys Stadium. They wear a LOT of makeup, but they are gorgeous anyway. My husband got an eye-full, but he went over to talk with Michael Irwin afterwards.

In a polite gathering, this would get you a funny look, and people would drift away. It is not nice to criticize other people's holy book. It also sounds as if you are either crazy or on dope. You should know better than to say anything like that in public.

Actually I agree pretty much with the other comments. Can't you come up with something better than that? My mother was French. Iraq may or may not have been a mistake, but it is far too early for YOU to know. In 50 years, let's see. Only history will tell.

You know, you got me thinking about something.....

It's almost impossible to find one word or something that can directly piss of any and all Canadians...... yet Uncle wishes to find one.

Why?

Does someone, who ventures into a Canadian forum and get's angry from time to time with some Canadian members, want to find some word that they can use to anger a Canadian in which it is directed to?

I wonder if it angers that someone that it's almost impossible to insult someone who doesn't relate or care about the level of insults thrown their way that normally affects those around them in their everyday life?

Or maybe it's just a simple question.

Really? Everybody would? You mean there isn't any other people down there who might actually think the same way they do and wouldn't leave?

Isn't that sort of like how Iran claims to not have any Gays?

That's Priceless.

It is not nice to criticize other people's holy book.

And how do you feel about the Quran?

It also sounds as if you are either crazy or on dope.

So people are only supposed to understand, believe and follow Christianity down there or there is something wrong with them?

You should know better than to say anything like that in public.

So..... there's no belief in freedom of speech down there either? Or is it that freedom of speech is permitted, but unless you speak words that are approved by the majority, expect to be segregated from the entire community and basically cast out?

Uncle

Oh don't worry, history has already been written.

It was a mistake invading then, it still is a mistake now.... staying there forever until one really good thing finally occurs just so you can shout at the world "SEE!!! This is why we invaded..... this is what it was all for!!!"

You might buy it, but I, others like me and millions of suffering, dead or displaced sure as hell won't.

Bubba, you live on a bush. You would argue with a fence post. Truly, I don't think your elevator goes all the way to the top.

And how do you feel about the Quran?

It probably has many good points, but I'm reading the new Bible my daughter gave me. The language has been modernized. It's lime green and has silver pages. BTW, I don't agree with everything the Bible says either. But, it has some good points.

So people are only supposed to understand, believe and follow Christianity down there or there is something wrong with them?

No necessarily, but you are in the minority if you are not Christian or Jewish. To spout off such foolishness as "The Bible is a fairy tale" in a public place shows a shocking lack of good manners, bordering on "I have a nervous breakdown coming on."

So..... there's no belief in freedom of speech down there either? Or is it that freedom of speech is permitted, but unless you speak words that are approved by the majority, expect to be segregated from the entire community and basically cast out?

Sure, we have plenty of freedom of speech. However, you must be prepared to pay the consequences, like Michael Richards and Isaiah Washington - just two examples. If you speak your mind, you might go to jail or lose your job. Depends on what you said.

OMG.
You are suffering and dead and displaced:?::?::?: How could that happen:?::?::?: I guess it's because you live on a bush and are 28 years old. You are the only one who will live another 50 years. I won't.

No, that's not really true... fence posts don't communicate back the way I like. And I'm over 6' tall.... do you even realize how uncomfortible a Bush is for someone the size of me?

You could say I live under a Polar Bear, that might make more sense.

Truly, I don't think your elevator goes all the way to the top.

Why thank you, but you still avoided my questions.

It probably has many good points, but I'm reading the new Bible my daughter gave me. The language has been modernized. It's lime green and has silver pages. BTW, I don't agree with everything the Bible says either. But, it has some good points.

Fair enough.

perhaps. I have another question however... is it still common practice down in that area for people to use the N word freely out of hatred or even comedy at another's expense?

Sure, we have plenty of freedom of speech. However, you must be prepared to pay the consequences, like Michael Richards and Isaiah Washington - just two examples. If you speak your mind, you might go to jail or lose your job. Depends on what you said.

Uncle

Yeah great attitude.... it'll be my generation taking care of you... enjoy it.... I hear there's more baby boomers then there are us..... might be a bit difficult.

Sending this generation off to war based on lies and misinformation = less people to be there to take care of the retired generations to come.

And it is common knowlege that humans instinctively reduce their reproduction when there are stressful times such as a low economy, shaky future or a war..... right now, all three are happening.

To me, that doesn't sound like a good thing to be happening, that should directly concern you. Much of the suffering and difficulties will be coming a lot sooner then 50 years.

I maybe 28 years old, but I sure as hell know what I'm talking about.... and if it seems like I don't, that's because I want you to think I don't, so that later you think that I do, and perhaps maybe I do.....

.... then again, maybe I don't.

Don't what?

It's almost impossible to find one word or something that can directly piss of any and all Canadians...... yet Uncle wishes to find one.

Why?

A very valid question but, in my experience, it is nearly impossible to guess someones motive in anything. Most people don't know there own motive.

Does someone, who ventures into a Canadian forum and get's angry from time to time with some Canadian members, want to find some word that they can use to anger a Canadian in which it is directed to?

Seems plausible.

I thought maybe he was trying to find our moral ground. He maybe doesn't realize Canada is an amoral country, that is, the social consciousness tends away from absolute morality (black and white) whereas the US tends toward it. This IMO is the greatest difference between Canada and the USA.

I wonder if it angers that someone that it's almost impossible to insult someone who doesn't relate or care about the level of insults thrown their way that normally affects those around them in their everyday life?

I expect so. It is frustrating to feel slighted and having no way of returning the favour.

You might make some enemies appealing to morality with some Canadians but certainly not all or even the majority. This isn't the case in the USA.

I could say the Charter of Rights and Freedoms is a waste of paper and Canada is crap because of it, for example, and barely offend anyone. Try saying the USA is crap and it's constitution a waste of paper and you might find yourself going to gitmo.

The thing is, IMO, Canadians aren't concerned with issues from a morality standpoint. A multicultural country couldn't be; it would be impossible. We accept all kinds of morals from different kinds of people.

The USA is a melting pot. It's a completely different thing.
