I strongly disagree, this world is not at peace not even close and the more technology we gain the more powerful weapons we make the more damage can be done from violence. If we don't stop the violence it will stop us. We need to realize this before its to late. Only kindness, forgiveness, respect and understanding are things that will bring peace.

I agree. An eye for an eye makes the entire world blind. I see you support the Green Party. I donated money to their campagn, but since my riding will be a tight battle between the Liberals and the Conservatives, I plan to vote Liberal. If the Greens or the NDP had a chance I'd vote for them instead.

I don't trust any leader. That's why I'd like to see a Liberal minority. Dion will lead by consensus and compromise.

The carbon tax is revenue neutral. It costs more to produce carbon, but we pay less income tax. People who drive Hummers will be punished. People who use public transit will be rewarded. I like it.

Or what he thinks would be consensus and compromise.

I think punishing people into behaving is not as good as helping them behave.

I like Dennis Fentie's approach. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2008/06/28/north-carbon.html Lots more on it if you Google.
Germany was having electricity problems so the gov't decided to help people put solar panels on their roofs. As a result the gov't saved money as well as the populace. Germany DIDN'T punish people into cutting their electricity needs. That, IMO, is progressive. Punishing people into doing things is primitive.

My Mom is 88 years old. She has a fixed income. She lives alone in a house with an oil furnace. Due to her age, she keeps the place oppressively hot.

I guess she needs to be punished.

When she goes anywhere, either I drive her (I guess I need to be punished)or she takes a taxi.........(I guess she needs to be punished some more)

She pays very little in income tax now..........so a cut will help very little.....

The increase in the cost of diesel will make everything she buys more expensive.....food included.

Well, I guess she needs to be punished a little more.....

Or perhaps she should just be regulated to a (non-existent) space in a nursing home for the good of the collective......

Deal with realities, please.

Choose a grey(gray) future or a green one....It is our choice in the end!

You know why the selfish always seem to get ahead faster?!....It's because the selfless will save the selfish, but the selfish will never save the selfless!......I say ..Save yourself ...Self- Saviors!...But then I guess that would be Selfish!???!?!?!?!??......................................................

..............................ANYWAY!...................................................................

4 whatever it's worth (on behalf of the selfish polluters) ,I would like to thank all the selfless people .The people who took the time out of their lives, to clean up Canada and its Canadian shorelines... its Selfless Canadians like yourselves , who are Truly CANADIANS!......We all Thank-you ! .....
We can all breath a little more easy now knowing their are people who care for something bigger/Something other than themselves.....!

A Harper majority would harm Canada and the world.

Au contraire,

Actually a Liberal minority led by Dion would instantly cause the planet Earth
to explode into a giant flaming gasbag.

Famous scientists have proven this to be undesputably true.

All I ask is that you think twice while in the polling booth.

A real human social collective would take care of her every need 24/7 just because she was elderly and deserved respect and dignity.

earth_as_one, I'm going to vote for the green party since NDP will get in my riding. And I want to give the green party all the momentum as possible.

Risus, 50 billion will come from the tax cuts Harper will give to big business.

L Gilbert, I don't feel its punishment to pay for polluting our planet. But I think we will be punished big time if we don't stop polluting it. I think its our responsibility to do what we can to prevent harming our planet. I do think that finding other ways to do things like the solar panels are an excellent idea and should be encouraged as much as possible.

Colpy, I wonder how much punishment your mother is going through with a Harper government? Cut backs on health care and medication funding.

Trex, I don't believe that for one second.

Risus, I think we lose much of our message when we insult others :( I must admit that picture does make me feel uneasy about him.

earth_as_one: I was referring to "Empowering average people" part specific to the quote. As for industries, government should be there to "regulate" to ensure the population is protected, (environmentally, legally, etc); but to run these industries -nope!! Governments have no business being in business. Governments need to step aside and let business do what they do best - innovate, invest, employ....

JMO

Nice sentiment,I've heard it before...In fact, last night from Harper alluding to someone elses plan saying that if this was a business. That's what you guys just don't get.

Government is not a business, its a public trust, and the public will decide where and how it should respond to the landscape. That's democracy.

Now you say government should stay out of business, I say to you business should stay out of government.

That is ultimately what this election will be about.

Now, if you want to see the effectiveness of Conservatives in office, consider the fedral response to the Pine Beetle epidemic that threatens the existance of many BC interior communities. Conservative members have been in office here for a long time, and it was Emerson, a Liberal at the time who raised the charge. The Conservative members have been invisible for years, as they supported the big business interests who control this issue.

In fact, they make a big spread out of 36 million in community aide 18 months ago and still haven't delivered the cheques, but spill out a little cheque for a photo op with the elderly then disappear again.

That's your Harper leadership if you live in a devasted economic zone.

I'd hate to have this guy on the other end of a 911 call, he's likely to get his calculator out and see if he can weigh the costs of saving a 50 year old "unit" before he dispatches.

Government should run like business, such a joke, but not so funny when you're experiencing the effect first hand.

As A Canadian, no matter where you live, you should take heed that Harper is not a steward of our forests or forest communities, because if we loose our forests....We're in really big doodoo and any amount of business acumen ain't gonna help.

While I'm on a rant,

How come since Harper came to power, every economic plan in Central BC where we are supposedly trying to create economic transition from the grassroots (read local), we are infested with "consultants funded by the government out of Alberta!

Heck, if I could have a vote for every one of these cut and paste jobs that feature "Tourism" as our economic strategy in a working forest, I could get voted in....

The Emporer has no clothes....and his bunch of followers has no clue....

I really don't see any logic in voting for Harper or conservatives in general. Just about all their policies set our country back and not move it forward. Lots of his policies remind me of bully tactics and make Canadians suffer more. It takes knowledge (education) to stop wrong not stricter punishments that create more suffering and in turn teaches them to make others suffer even more. Its their suffering that drove them to do the wrongs in the first place. Making them suffer more will drive them to make others suffer more. We need to stop their suffering, not make it worse.
