earth_as_one: I was referring to "Empowering average people" part specific to the quote. As for industries, government should be there to "regulate" to ensure the population is protected, (environmentally, legally, etc); but to run these industries -nope!! Governments have no business being in business. Governments need to step aside and let business do what they do best - innovate, invest, employ....

Nice sentiment,I've heard it before...In fact, last night from Harper alluding to someone elses plan saying that if this was a business. That's what you guys just don't get.
Government is not a business, its a public trust, and the public will decide where and how it should respond to the landscape. That's democracy.
Now you say government should stay out of business, I say to you business should stay out of government.
That is ultimately what this election will be about.
Now, if you want to see the effectiveness of Conservatives in office, consider the fedral response to the Pine Beetle epidemic that threatens the existance of many BC interior communities. Conservative members have been in office here for a long time, and it was Emerson, a Liberal at the time who raised the charge. The Conservative members have been invisible for years, as they supported the big business interests who control this issue.
In fact, they make a big spread out of 36 million in community aide 18 months ago and still haven't delivered the cheques, but spill out a little cheque for a photo op with the elderly then disappear again.
That's your Harper leadership if you live in a devasted economic zone.
I'd hate to have this guy on the other end of a 911 call, he's likely to get his calculator out and see if he can weigh the costs of saving a 50 year old "unit" before he dispatches.
Government should run like business, such a joke, but not so funny when you're experiencing the effect first hand.
As A Canadian, no matter where you live, you should take heed that Harper is not a steward of our forests or forest communities, because if we loose our forests....We're in really big doodoo and any amount of business acumen ain't gonna help.
