Apparently these guys think we're ignorant - the bloody masks DON'T FRKN WORK!! Only N95's work or, as a poster in my doctor's office shows, wear at LEAST 2 preferably 3 masks at once and then perhaps you'll be fine.

The idiots are STILL here.

What are you talking about? The masks work just fine!

They're excellent at creating a sense of 'crisis' or 'emergency' which is necessary if you're going to consider further restrictions, and of course gov'ts learned that they may not be held to account for failing to do their actual jobs if they can pretend they're "dealing with the covid crisis". the masks inspire people to get more shots and vaccine, etc.

The masks do a LOT of things very effectively, the primary thing being to create a very visible and effective message that "the crisis is not over and we the gov't will still need to control things you do".

Why would you say they're ineffective? Wait..... you.... you didn't think they were to stop covid did you???

Thai blogger facing jail time for eating bats in soup
Phonchanok Srisunaklua uploaded a video and said the bats were tasty

A Thai blogger could be jailed for up to five years for taping herself eating a whole bat in a bowl of soup.

Phonchanok Srisunaklua uploaded the one minute and 40 second clip to her Gin Zap Bep Nua Nua (Eat spicy and delicious) YouTube channel where the dead animals are seen floating in a mud-coloured soup with cherry tomatoes, according to the Daily Mail.

The gross footage also shows her saying the bats are delicious and later she rips them apart and dips them in sauce.

It gets even worse, with the woman biting into the bones and then claiming they are soft.

The responses weren’t pretty.

One person said: “You put yourself at risk. If you get sick don’t bother burdening doctors and nurses.”

Veterinarian Pattaraphon Manee-on, head of the wildlife health management group at the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, told the Daily Mail: “I was shocked to see it in the clip now.

“Because the incident should not happen both in Thailand and around the world, it is very risky behavior, especially as bats have a lot of pathogens.”

He said just touching the saliva, blood and skin is risky.

According to some experts, bats are said to carry over 10,000 viruses that could be transmitted to humans and start another pandemic.

Now the YouTuber, who is also a teacher, has now been arrested for “possession of protected wildlife carcasses” and “crimes violating the Computer Crimes Act (2007),” according to the Daily Mail.

The woman later apologized for the video.

I am starting to believe that there are way more idiots in Canada than I thought there ever were. Some are still seen wearing masks in their own vehicles. These people have to be mentally ill. What else can it be. And those same idiotic people are helping the government to keep the covid fearmongering going. I guess this is one good reason why we still have Trudeau the PM of Canada. They are out there alright. (n)

Repeat COVID is riskier than first infection, study finds

The risk of death, hospitalization and serious health issues from COVID-19 jumps significantly with reinfection compared with a first bout with the virus, regardless of vaccination status, according to a study published on Thursday.

“Reinfection with COVID-19 increases the risk of both acute outcomes and long COVID,” said Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. “This was evident in unvaccinated, vaccinated and boosted people.”

The findings were drawn from U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs data collected from March 1, 2020 through April 6, 2022 on 443,588 patients with one SARS-CoV-2 infection, 40,947 with two or more infections, and 5.3 million noninfected individuals. Most of the study subjects were male.

Reinfected patients had a more than doubled risk of death and a more than tripled risk of hospitalization compared with those who were infected with COVID just once. They also had elevated risks for problems with lungs, heart, blood, kidneys, diabetes, mental health, bones and muscles, and neurological disorders, according to a report published in Nature Medicine.

“Even if one had prior infection and was vaccinated – meaning they had double immunity from prior infection plus vaccines – they are still susceptible to adverse outcomes upon reinfection,” Al-Aly, the study leader, said.

People with repeat infections were more than three times more likely to develop lung problems, three times more likely to suffer heart conditions and 60% more likely to experience neurological disorders than patients who had been infected only once, the study found. The higher risks were most pronounced in the first month after reinfection but were still evident six months later.

The cumulative risks and burdens of repeat infection increased with the number of infections, even after accounting for differences in COVID-19 variants such as Delta, Omicron and BA.5, the researchers said.

“We had started seeing a lot of patients coming to the clinic with an air of invincibility,” Al-Aly told Reuters. “They wondered, ‘Does getting a reinfection really matter?’ The answer is yes, it absolutely does.”

Ahead of the fast approaching holiday season with travel and indoor gatherings, “people should be aware that reinfection is consequential and should take precautions,” he added.

“We’re not advising draconian measures, but maybe if you’re going on a plane, wear a mask,” Al-Aly said. “If you’re in a supermarket, consider that the person near you may have a weak immune system, and if you wear a mask you might help to protect them.”

Big tax increases, service cuts needed in Toronto without help: Tory
City has accrued hundreds of millions of dollars in pandemic-related costs

Author of the article:Antonella Artuso
Publishing date:Nov 10, 2022 • 1 day ago • 2 minute read • 187 Comments

Toronto needs a commitment for more funding from senior levels of government by the end of the month to avoid “an unprecedented and inflationary property tax increase” and extreme severe service and program cuts, Mayor John Tory says.

In a bluntly worded open letter to Ontario Premier Doug Ford and federal Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland released Thursday, Tory said the city has accrued hundreds of millions of dollars in pandemic-related costs that it can’t cover on its own without significant impacts on Torontonians.

“I am writing today to reiterate our request for continued assistance from the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario to address the continued impacts COVID-19 is having on our city’s finances, so that we do not have to make deep cuts to services our residents require, impose massive tax increases they cannot afford or implement reductions to our capital budget which will eliminate thousands of jobs and threaten our economic recovery,” Tory wrote.

“The entirety of the amounts requested are as a direct result of the pandemic and the necessary measures taken to deal with the consequences of the pandemic.”

Tory spelled out the shortfalls: An additional $123 million in lost TTC fares on top of a previously noted $483 million, $201 million in extra shelter costs and to care for hundreds of refugees arriving monthly, and $491 million in reduced hotel tax, user fees, parking fees and other revenue streams.

Weekly ridership on the TTC remains at 65-70% of pre-pandemic levels, he noted.

Tory had campaigned on a promise to keep property tax increases below the rate of inflation.

“As we look ahead to 2023, based on continuing COVID-19 financial impacts and other factors, including rising interest rates and cost of fuel, we are wrestling with an opening budget pressure of $1.489 billion prior to any property tax increase or intergovernmental funding commitments,” Tory said.

The mayor thanked both the provincial and federal levels of government for their financial support during the pandemic but said the related costs continue to mount.

Tory previously expressed disappointment that Freeland’s Fall Economic Statement contained no promise to help address the city’s funding gap.

His letter arrived four days before Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy is set to release the province’s Fall Economic Statement.

So what he is saying is that piss poor management in Toronto should be paid for by everyone else in Canada.
Here's a thought for the fiscally incompetent. Cut spending to match revenue.

and to care for hundreds of refugees arriving monthly
not "directly' pandemic related at all

Weekly ridership on the TTC remains at 65-70% of pre-pandemic levels, he noted.
Also not "Directly" pandemic related.

$491 million in reduced hotel tax, user fees, parking fees and other revenue streams.
that would be a direct result of Trudeau's travel policies and the complete disaster which was the arrivecan app and the airport disasters. Not directly pandemic related at all.

Maybe you should have been speaking out more about the costs of trudeau's policy or the cost of immigration when that was going on. Sorry - too late to pretend it's 'covid' now. Guess you have some hard decisions to make.

Hmmmmm.

“The City of Vancouver is optimistic of its ability to fully recover from the negative economic effects of the pandemic but remains cautious of its financial planning as the pandemic continues to evolve,” the statement said.

As of 2021, the city has $940 million in net assets (assets minus debts), which was a $202 million improvement over 2020. The city’s revenues were $2.35 billion in 2021, compared with $1.858 billion during the COVID year of 2020.

And yet a couple of months ago Vancouver was hinting it would need a bailout to stay solvent.
