Greenland has been melting for 12000 years. A lot of it around the continent was sea ice, which does not raise water levels but now that the continental ice on Greenland and Antarctica are going too, water levels are going up. No politics involved.

What else has been happening in your area that could affect the ecosystem? I ask simply because the re-introduction of beaver in B.C’s interior helped stem the desertification of the region . Is the change in the area perhaps caused by other factors ?

Pipelines do "batches". Refined product is piped from Edmonchuck to a Kamloops tank farm for distribution.
Due to a lack of pipeline capacity refined product from the CO-OP refinery in Regina is trucked to CO-OP gas stations throughout BC including the island.
Nobody seems to give a shit about accident prone BC Ferries carrying millions of litres of gas, diesel, bunker, propane and heating oil a year. Do they have an emergency response system in place? They are tankers by proxy and every bit a risk.
If BC Ferries were banned from transporting petroleum products you'd hear hoid bitch and whine like a 6 year old girl who got socks and underwear for Christmas.

Let's suppose the Isthmus of Chignecto refills, cutting NS off from NB, making not only NS an island, but isolating Aulac, NB and affecting Sackville itself.
The Economy locally tanks because the now lack of freedom of movement between NB and NS, as the highway and rails would not survive a surge. There are a LOT of people who work in Sackville that are from Amherst and Aulac, and visa versa. The commerce that travels between here and NS - and here to PEI - would be devastated as well. Costs rise because now that stuff has to be brought in by plane instead of on trucks.
There are a LOT of homes in the lowland and a lot of farms in the lowland. Part of the Marsh itself is the community acreage to share for cattle. That would be gone. I work with one lady who owns a farm right on the edge of the marsh and it's been there for generations. That'd be gone. Other farms, locally, gone. Sackville Industrial Park; gone. Depending on the height of the surge, half the downtown of Sackville gone or now small island pockets.
A surge happens, cutting off the high ridge - Aulac - and turns it into an island because if the Bay floods, likely so will Port Elgin (village towards PEI), so the land is cut off on the east, north and west, with south already ending to the Bay. An emergency happens and there is no plans in place. People die as in this area, Sackville has a boat, Amherst might have one (don't know for sure but can't see them not), Port Elgin likely has one or can get one, but the actual rural FD that is in Aulac - Point du Bute - does NOT have a boat and can't afford one as it's a rural volunteer department. So mutual aid is called to Sackville or Amherst for a 911 call in the area. Sackville gets their boat, goes to... well there's no boat landings near the river/edge of the Marsh so they'd have to search for a place to launch from, then cross the marsh and reach a landing point in Aulac. Now Amherst is a little closer to Aulac both in time and land so they'd get there sooner, IF they're not answering calls of their own.
Meanwhile patient dies because they didn't get there on time.
There are a whole BUNCH of other scenarios that this area faces if there is any sort of surge what so ever that would flood the Marsh.
Would that be the end of the world, you ask? Abso-****ing-lootly, to the people involved in the area and surrounding area. Deaths, loss of land and homes, the economy, those would be felt for years and years.
Unless all of that doesn't matter what so ever to you, then I guess sure, having NS an island doesn't matter at all... :|
