I think you just have to boil them for a couple of minutes, Mowich. As an old Vancouver Islander I know Red Tides are common on the coast
I don’t care how long they cook , I will not eat Mud Bay oysters .

", it will be floating unless it’s really stormy, then it can go anywhere, "

“Conditions play a huge role in recovery,High winds are going to impact your ability to respond and rough seas definitely impede your ability to respond.”

great link.

NDP minister for Burnaby just said his best estimate is that 75% of his constituents are against this expansion.

SO much for the fake news that the public is for this pipeline.

That is simply a lie being told by idiots.
75% of dippers being against jobs is no surprise. Fortunately their opinion is neither wanted or important.

Cannot be cleaned up in most of the projected scenarios on the west coast.

Couldn't be because the clowns doing the projecting have set up impossible scenarios could it?
Kind of like the Globull warming truthers making predictions with models they set up to get the desired result,

I don't care where they come from, I will not eat oysters.

Our democracy is not being tested.

The pipeline has been approved and there have been significant legislative and environmental checks in place to satisfy that approval.

Those opposing it right now are a fringe group who don't have sufficient evidence to justify their position.
I don't get it.

If its approved why aren't they building it?

oh wait. As regards Canadian federal authority over First Nations lands - there is none.

No federal or provincial government has the authority to approve a pipeline across lands belonging to First Nations.

SO what we have is a federal government attempting to force the construction of something they have no authority to authorize.

What could be more Canadian than that?

I don't know where you are getting this crap from the Crown hold the rights to all FN lands, every treaty reads that the land can be used by the Crown if they need it. FN have to apply to the crown before any resource operation can be started on FN lands. e.g. Onion Lake when they decided to go ahead with drilling and selling oil from the reserve they had to apply to the crown for permission to do so. In B.C. the Province owns the land, but FN have a claim against it because no formal agreement (treaty) was made to set aside lands for the FN people

Ya! Phuk pipelines.

Nice lie.

It baffles me how you can live with all that radiation in the West Kootneys.

It's gonna kill you before you crack 75.

You could have 15-20 more if you move now.

Zone 1 is deadly.

The village of Nakusp has been enlisted to help promote November as Radon Aware month, in partnership with the B.C. Lung Association.

Radon is a radioactive gas, which forms naturally by the breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water. It is colourless, odourless, and tasteless, which means it cannot be detected by the senses.

When radon is released from the ground, it mixes with fresh air, causing it to become diluted, which results in concentrations too low to be of concern.

It does become an issue when it gets into a closed space, like a home, and gets trapped, and people wind up breathing it in. High levels of radon exposure over a long period of time can lead to lung cancer.

“There isn’t much of a protective lining in your lungs, they’re very sensitive. The radon decay can damage the DNA within your cell’s nucleus,” said Britt Swoveland of the B.C. Lung Association. “We know that the risk for those exposed at high levels over time is about one in twenty. If you smoke, your risk is about one in three.”

The B.C. Lung Association is trying to promote the use of radon awareness kits, which are available for purchase through RadonAware.ca

The kit looks like a hockey puck, and is about the size of the palm of your hand. It sits in the lowest level of your home for a minimum of three months. Radon passively decays over the device.

Once the minimum three months are up, it can be packaged up and sent to a lab for analysis. It normally takes a couple of weeks to get the results, which are based on the Health Canada guidelines.

“You’ll either have a level that is above the Health Canada guideline, or below,” said Swoveland. “If you’re above, the action you should take is to reduce the radon levels in your home.”

There is a shelf life for the kits. If you buy one, make sure to use it within a year of purchase.

“I always think it’s good to use them as soon as possible, because if they get little tears or abrasions in the plastic that they’re sealed in, that could affect their levels.” said Swoveland.

In order to reduce levels of radon in the home, you can install a sub-slab depressurization system, which is basically a ventilation system for the radon gas. It extends from the sub slab in your home, and ventilates safely to the outdoors.

It takes about a day to a day and a half to install a system in your home, and it is recommended you find a certified radon professional to do the work.

In an existing home, installing a complete system can cost somewhere between $1,500-$3,000. If you’re building a new home, it’s a little less, around $1,000.

"We have 51-days to ensure Kinder Morgan gets the message and packs up its bags and goes back to Texas.
51-days to fend off Alberta and Federal governments attacks on our democracy, on the B.C. government, and on frontline Indigenous defenders - that the government consistently forgets are the true holders of jurisdiction here and have never consented to this pipeline through their territories and waters;
51-days to protect the lands, water, coast and climate that we all hold so dear and this pipeline endangers.
51-days to stand-up to a Texas bully and win."

Go Back To Texas Kinder Morgan, You Are Not Wanted Here. People power gets the goods again.

After one historic month because of strength of Indigenous leaders and the power of people we have a Texas based pipeline company on the run.
On Saturday, Grand Chief Stewart Phillip joined with other Indigenous leaders, Naomi Klein and hundreds of supporters to once again challenge Kinder Morgan’s toxic pipeline plans. They blocked the company’s gates and for an entire day stopped any vehicles from moving into or out of the property. It was a powerful day and an important reminder of the strength of the movement that has been built to stop this project.

That's just sheer unadulterated craziness, Cliffy. We have about 4 million gas burning vehicles on the road with an average life expectancy of about 10 - 20 years and we have working people who want to work, buy groceries and pay mortgages and enjoy the basic comforts and amenities of life. I sent Horgan an email today more or less pointing out what a useless asshole he is just like the drones and parasites that he's supporting. (Haven't heard back from him yet)

Groundbreaking study makes first links between oilsands and cancer in Fort Chipewyan

For over a decade, residents of Fort Chipewyan have been crying out for something to be done about what they believe to be the clear connection between the rise of rare cancers in their tiny northern Alberta community and the massive oil operations upstream.

Though many scientific studies have concluded with certainty that pollution from the oilsands industry north of Fort McMurray is making its way through the air and water well beyond what was initially claimed, the extent to which that contamination has become an issue of human health has never been strongly drawn.
Or at least that was the case until last year, when researchers from the University of Manitoba working in conjunction with local First Nations published the first study of its kind drawing conclusive links between the occurrence of cancer in Fort Chipewyan and the oilsands industry.
The study coupled scientific data on the concentrations of oilsands-linked contaminants in wild foods with information provided by residents on exposure to such contaminants, whether through working directly for the oilsands industry or by consuming country foods, many of which show elevated levels of heavy metals and PAHs – cancer-linked hydrocarbons produced in the combustion of petrol.

There's pretty much a down side (the glass half empty) to most things in life! Maybe if you try real hard you can find some up sides (the glass being half full). This chronic and habitual pessimism every day does no one any good, Cliffy. We're all going to die some day, but maybe if we try real hard, we'll have a few days of enjoyment first. This chronic doom and gloom every day just drags us all down.

Bullshit. It's the exposed mineral deposits and Meadow Lake Tribal Council in Saskatchewan logging and building logging roads in the watershed that are the source.

Hopefully he shows up in his big boy pants/skirt and actually deal with the issue at hand. Public opinion is getting to him me thinks ;)

This is a watershed moment for JT. This is serious shit and he needs to come out of this meeting with a concrete deal between all parties involved. The Feds have numerous ways of dealing with recalcitrant provinces. Withholding transfer payments is but one of many at his disposal. The righteous anger being felt by Alberta..........and it is righteous is not felt alone. More and more Canadians are waking up to the fact that the economic future of our country is at stake. We are being held hostage to fortune by one province that even then is not united in its support of the government's stand on the pipeline. This has to get settled now.

Check out today's Power Play on the CTV website, TM........I think you will enjoy hearing what Don Martin has to say on the Last Word. Well worth your time.
