So Why does the US have to even involve itself??. If Israel wants Jerusalem as ITS Capital ....... that is Israeli's issue.
What if the US decided that Regina was Canada's capital and decided to move its embassy to Regina? Would that be acceptable?
Seems that the point is the US bias towards Israel. and if the US wants to play fair........it has to be neutral. Taking sides is never smart....... IF one is trying to broker peace between two parties. The US / Israeli relationship has created much angst and divisiveness.
The US is recognizing the capital that Israel recognizes. Canada does not recognize Regina as its capital.

The US did not decide that Jerusalem is now the capital of Israel. As far as that goes, Israel declared Jerusalem as their capital in 1980.

What does it change? It means that the US is going to eventually move operations from one city to another. That's all. There is a property leased to the US by Israel in Jerusalem already.

Objections come from the Arab world - primarily, the Palestinians who live in Israel, and in Jerusalem specifically. The Palestinians say that by doing this, their hopes for a home state have been set back.
Muslims in the ME point out that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is there and Jews cannot control the area. Al-Aqsa is the third most holy mosque in existence.
What it boils down to, in my view, is whether or not the Palestinians, or Muslims generally, will use the US announcement as an excuse to continue the destruction and killing. Does that sound prejudicial? I want you to consider that the fighting between Muslims, Jews and others has been happening in the region for at least 1500 years. Having the US re-recognize Jerusalem won't change the status quo. It seems that the area exists as an arena to fight and kill each other.
Trump's announcement changes nothing. The Arabs have never cared what the US has said. They will continue yelling "Death to the USA!" regardless of what the US says or does. I cannot think of anything that the States could do there that would change things. In any event, America is a Johnny-come-lately to the region, and has long been distrusted. The announcement won't affect how Arabs feel about them.
In my opinion, this announcement will be used by the Arab world as another excuse to keep killing - as if they needed a reason. Violence there will continue unchecked.
The US did not make it worse. It's been that way for thousands of years.

That presumes the world cares what the UN thinks. Countries rarely do. They only turn to the UN when it's convenient.
