Ontario gets it right with move to higher minimum wage
The Ontario government's decision to raise the provincial minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2019 has set off a storm of predictable criticisms. https://beta.theglobeandmail.com/op...ttps://www.theglobeandmail.com&service=mobile
The sense of minimum wage is questionable and definitely a bad idea if set by the Gov't. I doubt if Minimum wage is EVER a good idea, but in the rare cases where it is it should be set in the marketplace..............NOT by f**king bureaucraps! We've been chasing this stupidity for 60 years that I have seen and the same people are still poor today who were poor then. Can we buy more with the pay cheque today than we could then. NO! If there is any extra cash somewhere on account of it, it's mostly in the slum lords' pockets!![]()

The incentive is a difference of about $1000/mo gross. Assuming a 40 hour work week, at $15/hr it works out to $2400/mo before taxes. With a $17,000/yr mincome that works out to $1416/mo. Will the mincome be a taxable benefit is the question. If there is guaranteed income for everyone over the age of 18 as proposed by the Ontario Gov't of $17,000 per year, then minimum wage rates can be eliminated. However who is going to pay for this and what is the incentive to work?

You've never owned a real business with employees, have you. Wrapping up dog shit in a pretty box and slapping a bow on top doesn't make it a gift. You're desperately trying to polish a turd. You guys hate good news.
I didn't suggest it would. I was responding to Dixie's question about mincome and the minimum wage and the monthly difference between the two, assuming a 40 hour work week at $15/hr.If the minimum wage was increased to $50 an hour, nothing would be improved! Think about it!
If the minimum wage was increased to $50 an hour, nothing would be improved! Think about it!
And if it was dropped to $5.00 an hour; how would that help?
The marketplace? If you understand basic economics you should be able to understand that the marketplace always pushes for the lowest possible wage for the average worker.
I guess you have no choice but to raise the minimum wage when you expect people to pay electricity bills that high.
The end result is a simple devaluation of our currency. 100$ is the new 1$
