One of the great failures of Canadian foreign and military policy over the last 50 years is the largely discredited concept of peacekeeping.

What is does is entrench some cynical state of permanent , suspended warfare between two belligerents... in the hopes that the whole thing will just go away. It's usually a ploy to gain some advantage for one party or another.. and really has nothing to do with peace.. just a tactical truce.

But hey.. it lets Justin swish around the international stage like some New Age peace guru, taking plaudits and applause like he was a featured ornament at a Tragically Hip concert.

Armies are about defense of the homeland.. and fighting if need be. It's not about inserting yourself into conflicts in which you have no real national interests. And its certainly not some platform for an effeminate flower child to create his own private Woodstock.

Barmaids with big jugs, and lots of beer. Worked the last time we were invaded in 1812. That same method will still work in 2112.
damn straight
get them to tip in mags and ammo
and we will send 'em all home broke

The Afghanistanianites found throwing some hashish into the fray produced a lot of nice AK's in trade for that temple ball black (wooohooo!)

They are going to Ukraine.

That has been known for weeks already.

Canada is on the cusp of finalizing a defence co-operation agreement with Ukraine, and the country's ambassador tells CBC News he's hopeful the Trudeau government will soon allow Canadian companies to export weapons to the embattled nation.

Deepening ties and showing solidarity with the war-weary government in Kyiv is one of the major themes of the next few days as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau departs this afternoon for high-level meetings in eastern Europe.

The defence co-operation deal would allow for more direct Canadian military and defence industrial support for Ukraine.

This us NOT peacekeeping. A full and founding member of NATO would not have the respect of the Russians and they have no chance to keep the peace, there. Canadian soldiers will end up fighting shoulder-to-shoulder with the Ukranians against Rusians. I seriously doubt that there is enough left of our army to deploy to a place like Ukraine, anyway.

They better be in West Ukraine. With about 600 troops... yikes. They'll be gobbled up quick.

With 600 troops you are at most looking at an infantry company with the balance being support. If you are going to have any supporting fire you're going to need to shrink that to about a platoon of infantry.

Maybe they can pull duty in Haiti?

Supporting fire? That would require ammunition. Not happening. THey will be handing out sweaters in the hotter regions and group hugs with opposing terrorist organization.

Oh Good Lord!

Are you serious, or are you just trolling?

I mean, COME ON!!!

LOL

Did you read your own article? No, you didn't, did you?

One of the missions (Mali) is NOT peacekeeping, but combat. 105 dead UN troops in 3 years.......... Unless of course, you expect Canadians to follow the old, disreputable tradition of the UN and run away as civilians are butchered by individuals exercising their interpretation of the Religion of Peace.

Three of the missions (Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Sudan) want Canadians because the UN troops there now are either sexually abusing innocents (mass rape), failing to protect innocents, or both. How Canadians are supposed to stop that is unclear, or does Justin just want us to join in the fun?

The last is in Columbia, where Canadian troops would be expected to deal with the death squads of the Columbian military, and the narco-terrorists of FARC......as unarmed observers.

Research has shown that peacekeeping is the only valid military exercise left

Research has shown you are completely devoid of clues. :)

...and that Justin is a vicious drooling moron more than willing to get Canadians killed to enhance his "progressive" CV.....and maybe get us a seat on the useless Security Council.

Now, don't get me wrong....if we want to help Mali and engage with the French in chasing down and killing Islamist fascists, hell, I'm all for it. But let's not call it "peacekeeping" and let's DEFINITELY not do it under the command of the incompetent United Nations.......who will simply put us in there, and then do everything in their power to ensure we are unable to be effective. (see Rwanda, Srebenica, Bosnia, etc)

This is not the message I'm getting from troops (Canadian and American) texting home to their families. NATO and its allies are gearing up for an assault on Russia. Russia is warning its people of impending attack. As usual, governments are lying to us. Meanwhile y'all be arguing about the lies. They are slapping you with the left hand and .....

NATO is trying to provoke Russia into giving them a reason to attack. It has nothing to do with the Ukraine and everything to do with Russia and China wanting to eliminate the Yanky oil dollar in their trading. The banksters need more cash and they are willing to sacrifice you and your children to get it in yet another stupid war. Be prepared for another false flag that may interrupt and possibly cancel the election in Yankyland.

You guys say that about everywhere. Reality is that Libya and Iraq had some of the highest standards of living in the world before US intervention. Libya had free education including university, free total health care (glasses, dental, orthodontics etc), free daycare and more. It had low taxation and amazing social structure and low crime rates and didn't actually toture the citizens. It also had the balls to sell its oil not using the US dollar to trade which is why the Americans invaded and bombed it to hell. Iraq was a similar situation. Had free university and healthcare. Low unemployment. Great infrastructure. There were some issues of violence between the Shiites and Sunnis but Saddam was pretty tough on that sh^t. Again they would not comply with using the US dollar to trade oil so they needed to be bombed and invaded and have a new dictator installed who would comply with the US government and banks.

Do some research if you don't believe me. See for yourself what they had in those countries before US intervention and what they have now.

Ok, this now makes it twice in one day......

Mommy, I'm scared.
