5) Colombia. Different from the other missions on this list not only because it's in South America, but also because the peacekeepers here are unarmed observers. It's also the safest but smallest mission on this list. The purpose is to monitor the recent peace agreement between the Colombian government and FARC guerrillas.

There: completely created by the narco terrorist US war on drugs of which fartillary and bill and the bushes are all at the top of the heep of:

You're right, it' so much preferable to live under a despotic regime that tortures it's own citizens.
You obviously did not get the memo about Iran doing better after the 1970 coup that tool out the CIA sponsored Government. Since then the US has been in a covert war with them. Libya was a hell-hole before the US freed them. Look at the hell they had to endure under their brutal dictator.
Facts about Libya under Gaddafi that you probably did not know about ! - CNN iReport

Here are some Facts you probably do not know about Libya under Muammar Gaddafi:
• There was no electricity bills in Libya; electricity is free … for all its citizens.
• There was no interest on loans, banks in Libya are state-owned and loans given to all its citizens at 0% interest by law.
• If a Libyan is unable to find employment after graduation, the state would pay the average salary of the profession as if he or she is employed until employment is found.
• Should Libyans want to take up a farming career, they receive farm land, a house, equipment, seed and livestock to kick start their farms –this was all for free.
• Gaddafi carried out the world’s largest irrigation project, known as the Great Man-Made River project, to make water readily available throughout the desert country.
• A home was considered a human right in Libya. (In Qaddafi’s Green Book it states: “The house is a basic need of both the individual and the family, therefore it should not be owned by others.”)
• All newlyweds in Libya would receive 60,000 Dinar (US$ 50,000 ) by the government to buy their first apartment so to help start a family.
• A portion of Libyan oil sales is or was credited directly to the bank accounts of all Libyan citizens.
• A mother who gives birth to a child would receive US $5,000.
• When a Libyan buys a car, the government would subsidizes 50% of the price.
• The price of petrol in Libya was $0.14 per liter.
• For $ 0.15, a Libyan local could purchase 40 loaves of bread.
• Education and medical treatments was all free in Libya. Libya can boast one of the finest health care systems in the Arab and African World. All people have access to doctors, hospitals, clinics and medicines, completely free of charge.
• If Libyans cannot find the education or medical facilities they need in Libya, the government would fund them to go abroad for it – not only free but they get US $2,300/month accommodation and car allowance.
• 25% of Libyans have a university degree. Before Gaddafi only 25% of Libyans were literate. Today the figure is 87%.
• Libya had no external debt and its reserves amount to $150 billion – though much of this is now frozen globally.

Gaddafi wrote, “They want to do to Libya what they did to Iraq and what they are itching to do to Iran. They want to take back the oil, which was nationalized by these country’s revolutions. They want to re-establish military bases that were shut down by the revolutions and to install client regimes that will subordinate the country’s wealth and labor to imperialist corporate interests. All else is lies and deception.”

Finally, the gold bullion held by the Libyan Central Bank (March 2011) was among the 25 largest reserves in the world, as reported by the Financial Times, citing the International Monetary Fund. This provided Libya a critical lifeline after billions of Libya’s assets were seized by the United States and the 27 member states of the European Union.

You guys say that about everywhere.

And you "guys" always say that which isn't true, a distorted reality to support your hatred.

Reality is that Libya and Iraq had some of the highest standards of living in the world before US intervention. Libya had free education including university, free total health care (glasses, dental, orthodontics etc), free daycare and more. It had low taxation and amazing social structure and low crime rates and didn't actually toture the citizens.

"Libya's particular form of socialism does provide free education, healthcare and subsidised housing and transport, but wages are extremely low and the wealth of the state and profits from foreign investments have only benefited a narrow elite."

Gaddafi's quixotic and brutal rule - BBC News

It also had the balls to sell its oil not using the US dollar to trade which is why the Americans invaded and bombed it to hell. Iraq was a similar situation. Had free university and healthcare. Low unemployment. Great infrastructure. There were some issues of violence between the Shiites and Sunnis but Saddam was pretty tough on that sh^t. Again they would not comply with using the US dollar to trade oil so they needed to be bombed and invaded and have a new dictator installed who would comply with the US government and banks.

This here is the problem, you cannot support your views if your life depended on it, your research undoubtedly is narrow to fringe sites like globalresearch, the fringe lefts washing machine. You probably don't even bother to cross check their facts. You don't do this because your mind is made up, you don't want to know the truth, everybody believes what they want to believe.

Do some research if you don't believe me. See for yourself what they had in those countries before US intervention and what they have now.

I've been to both countries and have had extensive conversations with many people from many Arab nations, I don't need to do any research.

While US intervention isn't always warranted, to suggest a dictatorship is preferable to freedom can only come from a fringe element with extremist views.

I'm sorry but you need new material, the old "war because not trading in USD", "war to steal their oil", "war because doing what they have been told" is getting very old. Predictions of the fall of the USD, the collapse of the US have been going on for at least four decades and none of it ever pans out. This is why the fringe left (You for example) never are taken seriously.

I say go to all of them.

Five possible UN missions for Canada

Research has shown that peacekeeping is the only valid military exercise left.

They are going to Ukraine.

That has been known for weeks already.

Canada is on the cusp of finalizing a defence co-operation agreement with Ukraine, and the country's ambassador tells CBC News he's hopeful the Trudeau government will soon allow Canadian companies to export weapons to the embattled nation.

Deepening ties and showing solidarity with the war-weary government in Kyiv is one of the major themes of the next few days as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau departs this afternoon for high-level meetings in eastern Europe.

The defence co-operation deal would allow for more direct Canadian military and defence industrial support for Ukraine.

I don't care what you call yourself, in my eyes you're part of the loony left, full of blind hatred and zero common sense. You hopped on the socialist programs like white on rice, rejecting the otherwise cesspools these countries really were. You can make a common sense case that the US should not have gone in but to suggest they were better off before because they have free healthcare and education? Yeah you're fringe left,.

Most of the world is blind according to you and filled with groundless hatred. Your perspective is suspect. Name one just war the USA has started, just one. There aren't any. Every oportunity to bomb and invade the weak for plunder has been taken these last seventy-five years. That particular period of history is over for ever.

Call me what you like. Your opinion doesn't matter to me. These countries were better off before the imperialistic aggression of the the USA destroyed their infrastructure and economy. It was never about freedom or dictators....it was about control of resources and maintaining the petro-dollar. I know the truth hurts sometimes but you'll just have to learn to live with it.
