A majority of the young Canadian adult population Isen't even employable.
Most of them are as useful as tits on a camel.

Nothing the government can do about that.

Without jobs what kind of Canada do Socialists want?

Just so you know, female camels have tits and they put them to good use.

there are some bizarre attitudes out there about welfare mums and ripping off the system and the luxurious life they live

then there's the punish them for having sex crowd, punish them and the babies...let the babies starve...that'll teach 'em

I don't think people like that have ever experienced love in a meaningful way, people that are cruel are missing something in their makeup and I have zero patience for it in my old age

compassion though Twila, what does compassion spring from?

Being a welfare mom in Ontario used to be quite lucrative until those evil conservatives mucked it all up.

That would either help to cut down on over population since most people are unable to save up enough to raise a child to 18yrs of age before they are unable to actually have children or it will increase the risk of children with mental disabilities cause only those 40+ will have saved enough to have children.

Could be a very interesting world if that were to happen.

do you ever worry about a false positive? Is there recourse should a cold medicine or prescription come up as a positive for illegal drugs or alcohol? I ask purely out of curiousity. It's something we always hear about, false positives.

I have no idea. For pre work screening it is just a swab which if you didn't ****faced the night before or smoke a fatty for breakfast won't show anything. Once on the job testing is only done if you have an accident, then it is a piss test and a swab. There are rules about retesting and such but since I never drink in camp I and don't have accidents I never really paid too much attention to them.

Okay, I find that surprising because I've never known anyone who would say it was previously lucrative but then I don't know much about the system and it isn't because I haven't tried to get the numbers because I have...I do have some posts with food bank figures and the fact that the largest group of our poor here in Canada consist of children, not men, not women but children...many go without food daily...I know an EA in Trenton last year who used to bring in granola bars etc for some of the little ones to take home on the weekend because she worried that they would get little to nothing for two days until they returned to school...so what exactly would lucrative be and how would those previous numbers compare to today making it less lucrative?

I use to scam welfare when my daughter was young. I worked under the table for a non profit society. They actually helped me earn a little extra money here and there so my daughter could have a birthday party like her friends or buy a gift for her friends birthday or be able to go to the movies with her friends or on special occasions we would go out for dinner.

Scammed and illegal and I don't feel bad about it at all. It was not my daughters fault that I made some poor choices that landed her and myself on welfare. She shouldn't be forced to suffer because of it.

Not really scamming the system, more like surviving. Scamming the system is the single mom with live in a boyfriend that works in camp. Scamming the system is the single mom who gets pregnant again because she is about to get cut off welfare and would have to work.
Busiest night at the Quinsam in Campbell River is welfare wednesday.
Somehow I doubt you did any of these.

The kids might not have eaten but you can bet the crack dealer got paid.
When BC suffered it's first bout of dipper mismanagement in the early 70s welfare paid extra for each dog you had. I believe it was $20/month so all the hippies had 4 or five dogs that mostly lived off of deer and rabbits.

That's scamming in a Robin Hood sort of way. ;-)

Ontario used to have this thing called Mothers Allowance - pretty much on par with the Disabilitiy Benefit they used to have - a way to keep your head above water. For a new widow or mother out of marriage, it was a lifesaver of sorts. If it bleeds money the cheaters will come. I drove a taxi. I saw more than I really wanted to in a system being scammed.

A lot of good people were tarred....

I suppose a beer or two might make their life a little more bearable.

seems some want to force the woman to give birth and then either say give the kid up or screw ya both I ain't helping no one...

it's beyond me the lack of compassion shown

they are kids for f*ck sake...little tots and mum's struggling to do right for them with little to no means...
Best thing for the kid is to be adopted by a family that can afford to look after it, not to be subjected to living in squalor with a loser mom who will go out and have another one to bump up her gubmint cheque.

Most young people I know are hard working and want to succeed and most do.

HUH, maybe that is why my pickup line always gets me laid..

I'm sterile.

Being poor doesn't always equate with being a "loser mom", Walter. Actually in today's world money is often over rated, I actually have a lot of respect for people who can make something out of F**k all.

I agree with your adoption, as I was adopted. However adopted because of an unfaithful relationship.

I get where you're coming from with the loser mom. Yes there are women out there that abuse the system and that pop out kids to get a government check..

There are also plenty of poor women who don't cheat, who are good mothers and try hard to be good role models. Money is nice to have, makes life more comfortable, but it does not make the person.

3 kids or 10, welfare pays the same.

...and you know this how?? Experience??

"In Canada, "welfare" usually refers specifically to direct payments to poor ... beginning at €184 per month for the first and second child, €190 for the third and ..."

Apparently I know SFA.

Families* 1-2 children 3-4 children 5 or more $ 711 $ 773 $ 849

$75 extra for 4 kids instead of 2 is no big windfall.

I know in the old days if a recipient was able to earn a buck on the side and they knew about it, it was confiscated! Is that still the case?
