Parliament- Security measures.

If a planned attack had occurred, Canada would have seen mass murder.

This could have easily caused a decapitation of Canada's govt.

Yet by luck, pure luck, we did not.

Luck has nothing to do with it. Terrorist attacks don't happen from rolling dice. If a planned attack occurred things would have been worse, but a planned attack didn't occur, because no one planned and executed one. Maybe we have the right amount of security and police surveillance to match the threats we face.

And now the sort who plan these things know all of our weaknesses in that area.

Similar weaknesses are obvious and extend far beyond Parliament. Oddly enough we haven't had any major attacks. I know it's sacrilegious to say so but maybe there isn't a threat. Maybe the security we have in place is enough to prevent attacks. It's fairly obvious what we need to do and where we need better security now. Do we need mass surveillance and greater policing powers because a nut walked into Parliament with a gun? No, we just need better security at Parliament.

no we don't, we are doing just fine, what we need is to get a better hand on those 80 or so.

As it turned out, this level of security was apparently enough:

And not to disparage the acts and heroism of Kevin Vickers, but if he was our last line of defense, where the hell was the first? Can we clone him or something?

A planed attack has been giver short shrift by many.
Look to the planned attacks by the TO 18 or the Via Rail.
Then we have an unknown number that were interrupted by CSIS- RCMP.

Northern Ontario,
From a sane perspective a person who straps on a bomb or goes into a building has to be nuts...

But blind or nuts is anyone who thinks we are beyond danger in Canada.

Those didn't succeed. Do the police need more power when they succeed in stopping every planned attacked?

nooooooooooooooot disparaging anyone either but a 58 year old man pulled a Rambo and they were all behind him...just saying they were backing him up... it crossed my mind for a moment

what he did was over the top and out of the norm which means that's all you need in any situation ...he didn't even have on body armor, just a big set of balls and a mind set to get the job done...even walking down the hall after he had gone back to his office and reloaded....he has his gun pointed down and he is striding down the hall...MY PLACE that's how it looks

ya just gotta love this guy

now for sure Order of Canada and Knighted

So far Canada has been lucky. Now as to new laws, I am leery as hell of new security laws. More surveillance, possibly something akin to parole conditions that those with Security Certificates must adhere to.
That said, we have security courts available.
My opinion on the OP was and is, lax security. An armed individual went thru secuurity like a hot knife thru butter.
We were lucky.
Hoping that a planned attack is interrupted or stopped by CSIS-RCMP, well odds say they will not always be successful.

You must be having a medical emergency to write such nonsense.

It's where YOU are heading. We don't need any increase in security. Our existing infrastructure is doing quite fine. What we DO need is to take the fight to the terrorists on their own ground and wipe the sons a bitches out.

The OP was and is about Parliamentary security.
