I'd make a bet that cost depends upon whether the critter is a pet or a farm animal, too. The more emotional value one places on something, the higher the cost, I think.

Nah. I've taken my pets to farm vets and had them be super practical about treatment. The one time, it was the cat went on to live to 13. Neighbour dogs had caught and shaken him so bad, he was paralyzed from the waist down. I was beside myself, sobbing, the vet could have milked me for tons.

Do you know what it cost me to fix that cat?

The vet visit, plus $5 worth of steroids.

And when he got sick later as he was recovering (bladder infection because he could pee properly while paralyzed), I didn't eve have to bring him back in for a repeat visit, they just had me come pick up anti-b's.

Awesome! Only vets we've known have also been friends and as we have lived rural fo most of our lives and marriage, they have been farm vets anyways. One in Creston even wrote a Herriot type book or two.

SOunds like the vet knew you had a big fat pension cheque in your wallet and was trying to lighten the load for you.

Vet states a prescription is needed. Get the vet to write the script take it to your drugstore, much cheaper.

We took Pyewacket to the vet and he said she was fairly healthy but her teeth needed cleaning. This
was going to cost over eight hundred dollars plus the cost of the anesthetic which my neighbor tells me
will beat the hell out of a 200 dollar bill. I looked at her teeth and to me, thery don't even look dirty. Pye is
eleven years old....Any opinions???

The cat doesn't need teeth. Pull 'em. I'll fix the cat's choppers permanently for a six pack.

Juan does the cat get any raw wild meat? I'm thinking a couple of mice and or some squirrels might balance his PH or something in his gut or mouth.

I want half the money if it works.

I was recently discussing Pet vacinations with a friend of mine who has 2 dogs (we have 1). I was saying how our dog was due for his shots and must remember to make an appointment. She asked me why and I said we've always taken our pets in for their yearly check ups and now that we have pet insurance, we pretty much have to in case something happens. If the insurance finds that we haven't been getting him checked and shots given, they may not cover any serious expenses. She said that she was told (I can't remember if it was by a vet or someone else) that shots are good for up to 7 years and its a scam. She doesn't take her dogs in every year. WTF??

We also camp a lot in the summer, so we want to make sure the dog has his shots as you never know about other animals and also being out in the woods/wild......

Juan... do not pay $900 for a teeth cleaning. That is a lot of dough. The cat will be fine.

Yep and a big question.....................why isn't this charlatan in jail?

You can buy teeth cleaner at the pet store for a hell of a lot less than $900.

One of the other reasons I won't return to the last vet....

"Your dog needs monthly pest control and heart worm prevention."

Uhm.... the ground is frozen solid 6 months of the year, why does he need flea and tick protection in November (which was when he was wanting to dose him)?
