Minus 9 still seems cold for Nanaimo...

About 20 degrees colder than it has any right to be.

A couple of days ago I said it was colder here than a witches t i t, I was wrong it is now even colder.
-20 °C, or as I prefer -5°F. Not a thrill for anyone who has to go out in it, but I don't .Hubby and I have a new book and because it one we both like I'm reading it aloud . So we are indoors warm and toasty. The only saving grace for this nasty cold weather is that it is sunny and bright.

You got that right. If it were this sunny and bright in August, we would have at least 80 degrees....:smile:

It's -32 here today, with windchill values below -40. The rural buses aren't running, the ski hills are shut down, and the radio warns of ten minutes for frost bite to exposed skin.

I post this not to complain, but to illustrate the fact that, that is the temperature throughout most of Alberta, and we're not on here complaining. lol.

THAT identifies your innate wisdom.

Right now in Kelowna BC it -10 the normal temp for this time of year is around+3 and
a low of -1. It is going to get a few degrees colder before warming up and snowing by
mid week next week.
When I go to complain I think about living in Peace River Alberta for a few years.
Minus fifty or more was not unheard of. This I can handle don't like it but I can
handle this. Can prune fruit trees in this weather though

I think with the wind chill in Vernon right now it's close to minus 50C.

In Nanaimo right now, the temperature is sitting at around minus ten. It is warming up a bit but we'll likely get some snow in the next few days, turning to rain in a day or two. Rain is nice.. I love rain.:smile:

It warmed up a little. It's -29C from -32C earlier this AM. Windchill makes it feel like -40C but it's a cloudless sky.

What's happened to the good old days when normal prairie winter temperature was 40 below without any wind chill?

We still get that.

It was just announced on the T.V. news tonight that the U.S. is getting the worst cold snap they've had in 40 years. We all know that is utter and unadulterated bullsh*t. It wasn't that many years that orange groves in Florida were freezing.

It's far colder than the last frost in FLA

If there were a brass monkey stretching from Edmonton to Calgary, at -40*C it would be about 337 m shorter than it would be at +20*C.

I know it's cold enough to freeze the nuts off a steel bridge.

The coefficient of expansion of brass being 0.0000187 per degree C?

Yes, and knowing the temperature difference and the shrinkage, you can determine the distance between the two cities.

There was a young man from Madras
Whose "monkey" was fashioned from brass.
Young maidens declared,
When with him they paired,
That cold weather was often too crass.

Hey, it was only minus six this morning. It's warming right up. No snow in the forecast at the moment.
