There are 2.54 centimeters to an inch. Right now I measured 17 inches of snow in my front yard. Your record is proven BS.

My record? It's Nanaimo's record. Complain to your weather people and you're still full of sh*t.

Is that 17" a local average or what's on your lawn?

Where in the lower mainland did you see snow waiting to melt in May? Are you referring to the North Shore? or Coastal Mountain areas or Hope etc?
Lower mainland does extend all the way out to Hope.

Perhaps check CBC and the varying levels of snow falling throughout the lower mainland, which for this topic, includes Hope to Southern Vancouver Island.

Anywhere from 4-36 cm has been falling in areas. Nanaimo and the Malahat is getting hit hardest. Even Nanaimo with its varying levels has a disparity in the amount of snow falling.

I don't doubt Juans figures, give or take an inch. And we perhaps have had less- only about 4 inches on the ground - due to constant melting.

We are across the ocean from Nanaimo. They normally get hit harder and have different weather patterns due to the mountain range in behind. But Gibsons always has more snow than us if it does snow. Just the way it is.

I am sure it is that way in other parts of Canada too.

Well, Hope is in a different weather pattern due to the surrounding mountains. And I have not been to Hope in well over a decade, so it is not a place I frequent.

So, if you are counting Hope as a Coastal town, that would not be an accurate assessment of the weather patterns on the Sunshine Coast. :)

I lived in the Lower Mainland 11 years and I've seen plenty of snow out there. 50-200m up and a little inland can mean plenty out there for levels of snowfall.

Where in the lower mainland? Again, I live 1 and a half blocks from the ocean as most of the Sunshine Coast ribbons along the ocean. Nanaimo is on he ocean, but goes back inland farther than us.

My experience will be different than yours.
The lower mainland in the lower elevations ~ of which I live and am discussing ~ still has the mildest winters in Canada.

Mildest winters with very little snow days. I guess we are making up for it this week. :)

I've lived in the Gabriola/Nanaimo area for the last twenty years and I've never seen anything even close to
this much snow.

Yeah, you did- Dec. 29 1996, I know, I picked up my daughter in law and baby grand daughter at Nanaimo Gen. Hosp. We'd had 21/2' of snow over night.

And it was probably -10C as well. Like I said above. That was a bitch of a winter.

I lived on the Island for 45 years, Petros, and nothing since compares to the winter of 49/50 the year I started grade one.

Here's another one.....................
Record snow hits Nanaimo

I just shoveled a path out to the street.. A foot and a half wide and about two feet deep and seventy feet long.. It took an hour and a half. The snow was really heavy. I suspect it was rained on overnight. Shoveling the whole driveway might have taken me the whole day.

I was born in Powell River, and have lived back on the Sunshine Coast fo 22 years. I too, have never seen snow this late. Not even late January. Rain, wind storms, but not snow. Very, very weird.

My crocuses, and early buds on many bushes are now suffering. :) just not used to this.

And of course I have out of town guests arriving tomorrow. They are from the Rockies so they will feel right at home. Actually I am blaming the snow on them. ;)

As I recall we had snows like this in Powell River in the sixties.
Also vividly remember hooking up an electric blast on May 5 on Gilford Island in a snowstorm. 1999 or 2000.

Gotta love those short driveways.
We got about 5 inches in the open in QUalicum Beach Bare ground under the trees. Had to use the Bobcat to plow the driveway for the first time in 2 years.

I said it has never snowed like this in February in the last 22 years and I believe I am correct on that point.
December is mid winter for us and snow happens in December and January, but as mentioned never saw it in February before. If there is a record for snow in Feb here, someone can dig that up.

maybe they will survive, temps have not been that cold. And snow is an insulator at times.

Never mind Feb. We had snow in two separate years on Apr. 12 in the Courtenay/Campbell River area- that would have been back in the 70s.

I've also seen snow on May 24, near Williams Lake, so it's not all that unusual.

Coquitlam, New West, Surrey, Burnaby and Vancouver.

I haven't had to take any Vitamin D since I left. 96-97 was a bitch of a winter out there. -22C there feels like -60C here.

I'll take sunshine over mild any day.

I remember another bitch in Feb. - probably 1989 or 90, wife's birthday is Feb 2 and in Parksville it snowed all bloody day and cold enough to freeze snot on a rail.

And it was probably -10C as well. Like I said above. That was a bitch of a winter.

How did you enjoy minus 36C this morning, Petros? Son's working down around Estevan, it was a little balmier down there!

I'm not sure who to report this to, but we are getting a dump of snow. This weather would better suit Edmonton or Regina........Certainly not Nanaimo. If the authorities could just look into this, I would very much appreciate it......Thank you..;-)

Don't worry Juan, yours will disappear in a couple of days, Hellberta hangs on for months,,usually about 8.

Snow in May is not unusual for Will's lake or as we called it the Puddle.

Hey, I have son who has been working between Weyburn, Estevan and Oxbow all winter at minus 20-35C and I think it's Nanaimo's turn for a couple of weeks of minus 20. -:)

And June and Sept. up at Lone Butte.

While you are digging out from under all the snow, talloola, we here in the hinterland are hunkering down amidst yet another cold snap. It went down to -23' last night and stayed cold all day. Forecast is for warmer temps by mid-week but the way this winter has been going I would not be the least bit surprised if we have a really cold, miserable spring - which in a way might be a good thing as a quick thaw could be trouble considering how much snow we have accumulated.

Hope the sun shines bright soon, talloola and be glad you have labs. When we get that really wet snow, my little guy can't go more than a few steps without balls of snow adhering to his feet, legs and tummy. It got so bad one day I had to carry him home from our walk and cut off the snowballs.

this is great for my labs, they love it, and never even shiver, i just towel them when they come in soaking
wet, then they go in their crates and sleep it off, BUT i have a purebred maine coon cat, and her underbelly
is all hair knots, don't have a clue how to get them out, i'll have to try to shave her somehow i guess.

its still snowing lightly, but very mild.

that is what is so puzzling about this latest snow dump over the past 3 days, as it
is above zero the whole time, and getting warmer, so looking forward to the rain
that is somewhere out there, wish it would find us.

mount washington is doing just fine now, they can come and take my snow away anytime
they want, free.

You can start planting the garden in about 5 weeks!
