His choice wasn't an either /or. He could have done both and chose not to.

Yes, because the American viewing public really want to pay money to go see a film about a Canadian being a hero. I know that's going to border on sounding anti-American, but come on, you're not that naïve, you know they pay for American heroes, not Canadian ones.

One version of Argo apparently won an Academy Award. Unfortunately, an Academy Award has nothing to
do with th truth.
Part of the true story was that the Canadian embassador to Iran, Ken Taylor, at great risk to himself, Organized
a cover story for each of the half dozen Americans and getting Canadian passports for them. The Canadian
embassey staff tutored the Americans on their new identities and coached them on how to speak our language.
And helped to get them on aircraft to get them out of that country. Americans arriving back on this continent
thanked their magnificent neighbor to the north for their rescue.
You won't find any of this in Argo though. Ben Aflick decided that the whole thing was pulled off by the CIA. I
guess this is all "newspeak"

Sorry about the double post...
What did you expect out of Hollywood? And Affleck's just another artsy-fartsy a$$ out to make money however he can and regardless of facts.

I rest my case concerning making money.

Oh, and BTW, the Academy Awards are won by those who campaign for the awards the most and best: they have little to do with talent and other such traits. It's a stacked deck.

Again you cannot understand. Oh woe is you. Where did I state that Canadians were Stupid.
I stated the following.
Before the movie was made 95 % (and that is a low number) of Canadians knew SFA about the actual events. They may have been able to recall a few facts and by few less than 3. Yourself included.
And I included you as part of that 95 % plus, as others, a multitude I might add and myself have taken you to the woodshed on history and facts.
And in your opinion - Well your opinion has a very low bar for facts, common sense, knowledge and reality. Some of the things needed to have a decent opinion.

Regarding your knowledge of history vs mine. You have no right to be arrogant. I knew who Ken Tayor was and what he did at the time it happened.

Meanwhile you made this comment about Argot:

...the true story of how the CIA safely whisked six U.S. Embassy staffers out of Iran during the 1979 hostage crisis
proving you didn't even know this movie was fiction when you made that post.

I agree with you that some people knew SFA about the Great Canadian Caper before the movie. After watching the movie they will still know SFA.

.. Even Ken Taylor got over it and is fine with the movie now. Its just a movie people. Get over it.

that's not true:

'Argo': Former ambassador Ken Taylor sets the record straight

...Taylor and his colleagues at the Canadian Embassy in Tehran — who put their lives on the line to harbour the half-dozen diplomats who slipped away from the U.S. Embassy as it was besieged by Iranian militants who took more than 60 Americans hostage and held most under harsh conditions for more than a year.

That’s why Taylor is, understandably, a little touchy about the new Ben Affleck movie Argo to be released this week, in which Canada’s role all but vanishes while the CIA and one of its agents, played by Affleck, become stars of the show.

Taylor, still fit, fashionable and unflappable at 77, understands full well that Argo is Hollywood, not history.

But, as he told the Star at his Upper East Side apartment building in Manhattan, he also knows that for those under age 45 or so, the hostage-takings of 1979, and Canada’s courageous support for its neighbour, “is a part of history that they may only vaguely remember.”

For them, he said, the movie will probably “be the story.”

And the movie, he said, is a big deal...

Taylor understands the strong impact movies can have on perceptions.

Taylor was polite and acknowledged the shout out by Affleck at the Oscars. But that doesn't mean he's happy with his perceived place in history being down graded from hero status to a supporting role to an American CIA agent.

Northern Ontario,
Good lord, when I do someone a good turn.....a thank you is good and a 40pounder of rum is better.....

But I don't expect them to say thank you for 30 years..............This wasn't on the history or news channel it's a damn hollywood movie..

It pissed me off a lot more when some in the US government said that that the 9/11 perps came in thru Canada.

And I can absolutely see why that did piss you off. But a Ben Affleck movie? Are they really serious?

Yep, another artsy-fartsy wingnut. Takes a wingnut to marry another one. lol

Meh. There are lots of great looking women around with brains and aren't wingnut artsy-fartsy types.

That's not my point at all. I don't expect someone to keep thanking me. I just expect they won't forget... or worse invent a fictitious version of events that belittles my help.

Off topic, but I like LG's picture better. Woman without make-up are more appealing to me. The first image gives me a feeling she might be a high maintenance pain. The second image looks like she could wear hiking boots and carry a canoe. Now that's my kind of woman!
