if you have a grade 12 and a half a brain cell you can get work in fort mac. But it's allmost all easterners so it's a real dog eat dog and cut throat environment. They are only here for one thing and they brag about it.....money,livin the dream me byes, livin the dream. They will eventually go home with all their toys and retire.

More power to'em, Kakato.

If I was a young man and needed a job, I'd be headin to the patch as well, but JUST to get a grub stake for a business at 'ome, me 'bye. Cold and wet and dirty and dangerous would not be what I was wantin in a career. That, and getting paid and giving half to some landlord or trailer park. Nah. Don't think so.

Just sayin. Each to his own. enjoy.

School is still the best option. You can be at the bottom of the food chain or you can be at the top in the oil game. If I go to the rigs I make $162.50 an hr. I like that much much better than $45.

My base rate as a juinor pipeline inspector was $930.00/day and $100.00 for first 100 kliks on my truck and a buck a klik for anything over.
Good money but I didnt like being a fall guy for encanna.

Pardon me you alberta knobs,if alberta is so great, why does it have a 3.4 Billion dollar deficet ? If it wasn't for the the dreaded easrerners, nothing would get done.

Theres a reason you dont see too many on the rigs, they dont usually last more then a few hours, that's still Alberta redneck domain.
We know how to get her done, might want to read up a bit on Alberta's history and start with the Mannix brothers.

As a tradesman from the late fifties to retirement and working across this nation I'd hate to tell ya how many journeymen I trained in Ontario that had come from Alberta for work. After experiencing Ontario's largess they probably returned to raise familes on those easterner skills.

I can also remember well how long Alberta was a "Have Not" and on the receiving end of those transfer payments. Get over yourselves already with this "easterner" crud. You need someone to dislike; better look further than Ontario for your villification of all things eastern. Newfoundland'll be your next angst riddled diatribe as they're gonna be your direct competition for all tradesmen in the future.

All the trades are going to experience a massive boom on that rock and believe me when I say this: you want a place to raise a young family and experience friendliness without any of that Alberta "easterner's suck" bullcrap; head on over to the Rock. Once there you'll never go west of Nova Scotia again.

I predict your "let the eastern bastards freeze in the dark" might be your own fate some day if you don't get over this childish resentment and start treating people with friendliness instead of disdain for all who would come for work. You epitomize everything bad about "regionalistic pride". Today it's your turn to gloat, but tomorrow, who knows.

A Canadian who sounds like a southern redneck is nothing to take pride in bub.

That's ok,i'm an Albertan and were used to being hated by the ROC.Thats why there have been so many seperatist movements.
I allways run newfys down, allmost all my best friends are newfs and give it as much as get it so it's all good.
But when I was in fort mac I could sure tell that most had no respect at all for Alberta, cig butts and garbage were a common site coming out the windows of the vehicles going to the oilsands.
Their in fort mac for the money and **** everything else.

Man, sometimes I wonder about everything we could actually get accomplished if only we'd stop bickering amongst ourselves for five minutes.

I like your attitude! Ya gotta wonder how a thread on school teachers could turn into arguing about bacon.

I see... So that's why you're entitled to your entitlements then?

I've always thought Albertans work hard for their "entitlements".

Yeah, that's a lot better than the Albertans who throw cigarette butts out their windows and cause grass fires...

on the highway of death from fort mac to the oilsands a vehicle burns to the ground every couple of days from all the cig butts flying around,I used to have to dodge the bloody things in my truck all the time.As a lot of these vehicles are company owned theres no smoking allowed in them so out the window they go.

Also mosy houses in fort mac were only allowed 4 bags of garbage a week and most houses have at least 6 people in them so they take there garbage to work with them and just wing it in the suncor parking lot.

Is that different from other jurisdictions?

No, that's kind of the point...when someone makes a comment about out-of-province Easterners not giving a $hit...well your native Albertans are no better. I thought the point was obvious...

Point is they have fires in fort mac twice a week and there have been no fires from Cranbrook to clarseholm in southern Alta and B.C. this whole year,my scanners have all the forestry and fire frequencies and I also contract out for the forestry for man up firewatch so I would know about it.
