Because he did not cooperate with a UN resolution and claimed the sovereignty of his nation above the UN he gave the impression he had WMD's. You seem to have the mistaken opinion that the UN holds power over any soveriegn nation, they don't!
Like I said to JLM, please post some evidence of Saddam doing anything but denying Iraq had WMD's.
This whole story has a fishy smell to it. The yankees claim they had DNA evidence that it was bin Lades, but they disposed of the body within 24 hours? I doubt a DNA confirmation would have happened that quickly.
Secondly, what right did they have to dispose of the body? None. If I was bin Laden's relatives I would be pi$$ed.
Thirdle, the hypocritical yanks sure did a lot of complaining when there was dancing in the streets in the middle east after 9-11, but they did the exact same thing last night. What a bunch if hypocrites.

I asked you to do some research, your own yet you will not. On what basis do you make this decision that Saddam had no WMD's - After the 2nd Iraq War - After the 1st Iraq war, 91 - When and what do you have that shows you have looked at the time-lines involved, seen what the world saw and what many believed due to the actions of Saddam.
Saddam signed on to those UN accords. Part of the facts i asked you to check yourself. To make an informed decision, by yourself. No one else but you.
Nothing - You go by recent history - From the 2nd War forwards- That does not always, as in rarely provide the insight and information required to make an informed decision. You know that as well as i. But you refuse to. Why????

Since Iraq did not possess WMD stockpiles in 2003, your assumption that Hussein had WMDs would be wrong.
Assuming that someone is innocent of accusations until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt isn't stupid. FYI, this concept was the foundation of our criminal justice system. Now we just assume people are guilty and shoot them and anyone else who gets in the way.... or torture them for years without due process. Eventually we'll be convinced to lynch and torture child molesters, then murderers, then rapists, then selling drugs, until eventually we don't need lawyers or judges, only prosecutors. Why waste time and money on guilty people who commit horrendous crimes?
In the case of Iraq, the "assumption" or more accurately the "lie" that Iraq possessed stockpiles of WMDs led to a war which killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people and made millions of others homeless refugees. The point of the invasion was never about WMDs but using American military power to seize control of Iraq's oil wealth for the benefit of oil companies. The American people got stuck with the trillion dollar cost of the war and people close to Bush made billions.
Our criminal justice has reverted back to the middle ages when people were tortured until they confessed and then lynched by an angry mob.
