Give me stats - I asked on another thread for 10 atrocities committed that were found under Wiki leaks - you failed to reply - So i have doubt in your opinions when you state this or that happened - that to me is a reasonable conclusion - You make a statement - back it up - Otherwise - Drivel, or personal opinion. So show me where the US President implemented these tax increases.

I say I agree with your position that the middle class bear most of the tax burden and you respond with this.

This is not a classroom nor is it a courtroom...do your own reasearch and form your own opinion from it. Believe that no atrocities were ever condoned or instigated by the US if it makes you happy. I don't think giving chapter and verse of any episode would change your opinion so why would I bother to waste my time.

Same goes for the economic policy...look it up if you care or believe what you like...

Just in case you don't know how to use google I will this 1 time give you a break - Answers.com - What was the highest tax rate in US history

If you bother to read it this will aslo show how when the rich pay less taxes it leads to depression or recession.

The election will cost tax payers an estimated 300 million, that money could be put to better use such as insuring every Canadian is entitled to a life time subscription of free porn once they turn 18 years old..

Northern Ontario,
And just what are you trying to show with this? Any time there is growth in population you have growth in the GDP.

It's up to the individual to draw their own conclusion as to why the only time the general economy (not just the GDP) took a dip was during the second world war...I will not try to convince anyone of my views in a forum...(an exercise in futility)....the facts speak for themselves.

So there was no 'dip' in the economy during the great depression, or during the Reagan recession in the mid-late 80's, or the recent Wall Street collapse we still haven't recovered from?

The most useful determining factors of economic growth are the median income, job creation, and available disposable income.

Also the economy experienced a boom during WW2 due to the war effort, the GDP growth was stable because there was no real population growth during that period.

You're only saying that because you don't know how macroeconomics works.

If you did, you'd never vote Reform (which is what they are... they're just hiding behind the name "Conservative", when in fact real conservatives like Joe Clark and Belinda Stronich won't go within a mile of them).

I bet you don't know the difference between what used to case recessions, which was inventory surpluses leading to layoffs and then a reduction of spending, versus what caused this last recession (which is dragging on and on and isn't going to let up until the people who caused it are locked away where they can't keep meddling).

I bet you never seen the movie "Inside Job (2010)" Inside Job (2010) - IMDb

Can't really see Belinda Stronich setting the standard for any politician or much else either for that matter. She and David Emerson are two of a kind.

Another useless election with another set of (imo) useless candidates.

A separatist.

A rather paranoid, power-hungry Prime Minister (imo).

A parachuted in candidate who does not seem to stand for anything for very long.

And a semi-socialist who seems to think fiscal responsibility is irrelevant.

In fact - none of the above seems to pay anything more then lip-service to fiscal responsibility. They freely spend their children's/grandchildren's futures away to gain a few votes.

They are all worse then useless actually - politically speaking. And they are all doing more harm then good for Canada - in their own ways and to varying degrees.

Yup we are going to have an election alright. The problem is the kids on the Hill are
now fighting over what the main theme will be. Will it be the budget which is little more
than smoke and mirrors? Will it be because of the contempt of Parliament allegations?
Or will it be because they all hate each other and its time to get outside in the spring air
and say nasty unkind things about each other?
Oh I think its because they want to get out in the spring air.
When its over we will spend 300 million dollars and have the same result with a few new
faces to decorate the chamber. The truth is, I can't wait to vote against Mr. Harper and
his social conservative agenda, they are little more Reformers in Tory clothing.
All this talk about coalitions of the opposition, well the Conservative Party is a coalition of
the Progressive Conservatives and the Reform Party. In BC they fought the leadership of
the Liberal Party on the idea of keeping, (wait for it) keeping the Liberal-Conservative
Coalition together for the next election. So are we done with the coalition thing now?
How about the budget, it said a lot but gave no real hard numbers and left out things like
the cost of the jets. In addition they say we are all better off than the rest of the western
world. My God the western world economies are in the toilet and we are a fraction above
them with the biggest deficit we have ever had. So I guess we shouldn't talk about the
economy anymore.
Remember Mr Harper telling us we would have open government with accountability and
an ethics section we could be proud of? Now we have fraud, influence peddling, a
cabinet minister with an escort, and all that, that entails. We have a government in whole,
charged with contempt to Parliament itself and the most secretive administration in half a
century. Guess we shouldn't say much more about ethics.
So the last item is the best one to go with, lets all get out in the fresh air of spring amongst
the beautiful flowers and call each other all kinds of really cruel names, we can talk about
each others families, and attack other people personally and then all come together and ask
for cooperation when the House opens in the fall.
WE are going to have a lot of entertainment for 300 million dollars but that is all we will get
for our money. Its been a long winter, this thing will be over in time for us to watch the last
NHL Playoff Game and the Cup handed over to the winner. Election season has begun.
In BC it will be a Federal election a Provincial Election and Municipal Elections.
Hang onto your hat the fun is about to begin you are paying for it anyway you may as well
enjoy it.

Pretty much agree with all of that, the exceptioin being that Harper is possibly the best of the four evils and the only one not gung ho about hoisting a $300 Million bill on us.

But he is eagerly foisting a 27 billion dollar bill on us. His budget was probably designed to bring on the election. He is the passive aggressive type.

He's definitely a different kind of cat, Cliff I just don't see any point in getting rid of him unless he can be replaced with something better..............Duceppe is not an alternative for me, Layton may climb a point or two in the polls and I wouldn't trust Iggy as far as I can throw him. So what realistic choice do we have?

I don't know enough about Iggy to evaluate him but what I have seen in the media is a character assassination of him that almost rivals the one done on Sarah Palin. I'm thinking that possibly Jack will take a jump in the polls from the fallout from Harper's secretive and bullying style and Iggy's character assassination, as people vote in protest against the big two.

I think Layton will rise about 2%, but regardless, do we want him for Prime Minister? I don't think we can afford him.

We can't afford any of them. The only advantage to Jack is that he is not bought and paid for by the corporate elite, although he may be bought and paid for by the union elite which is not much better, if at all (depending on which side of the fence you are on). In the long run, Jack's biggest asset is that he is not Liberal or Conservative.
