I'm curious why an election is "dreaded" as put forth in the title?

We should have had one last year.

I'll admit I'm annoyed by all the harassment of polls, lawn signs, home TV ads, road side TV ads, kick boxing, pillow fights, radio squabbles and wiener roasts.

I don't "dread" an election in the advertised definition of the term but I most certainly dread the psychological, physical, financial and emotional abuse thrust upon the unwitting masses.

Simply reading some of the posts it's quite obvious many peoples minds and their emotions have been handed over to be used and abused for the personal gain of people who are required by law to put your best interests first. If they have your mind and soul they are breaking more than just the laws of the land but the laws of morality as well.

Try using your own thoughts when voting. We might just end up with a real government that way.

Pretty much agree with all of that, the exceptioin being that Harper is possibly the best of the four evils and the only one not gung ho about hoisting a $300 Million bill on us.

Yeah 300 million bad, 45 billion good.

Gee, seems to me Harper has already over spent us by about 100 billion and more to come......and you are worried about 300 million for democracy?

Besides, do you seriously beleive Harper hasn't manipulated parliment to get this election going considering the polls?

Wow, not to bright of you.

We can't afford any of them. The only advantage to Jack is that he is not bought and paid for by the corporate elite, although he may be bought and paid for by the union elite which is not much better, if at all (depending on which side of the fence you are on). In the long run, Jack's biggest asset is that he is not Liberal or Conservative.

Jack isn't bought and paid for by unions....that's no longer legal.

Easy to say, difficult to prove.

Union and other pension plans hold some heavy interests in this country and they can make contributions. For instance the Teachers Union of Ontario own a hefty chunk of the Maple Leafs hockey team and they can contribute as owners of the Leafs.

I think Layton will rise about 2%, but regardless, do we want him for Prime Minister? I don't think we can afford him.
A guy like Layton may have lofty dreams like any other leader but it still takes a house vote to pass a bill.

Do you really believe that, because harper says he doesn't want an election that he actually doesn't ?
The other day when I mentioned uncle adolf,I wasn't comaring anybody to him,but the harperites that seem to be eager to believe every bit of spin that he and his lackys throw out..
Oh a coalition would be so evil, who wanted a deal with the Bloc when he was in oposition ?Who ran on a policy of transparincy and honesty ?
I'm not a big fan of either Jack or Iggy but I think the harper govt is dishonest,I will not be voting conservitive.
In leau of a rebuttal, feel free to criticize my punctuation.

Yeah, right..............

Damn right! Harper wants to play with the big boys the only way he knows how, by acting like a bully. He's not going to out smart anyone on the international diplomatic field but he does have a few well armed contemporaries. France, China, Russia, USA, all are able to step up and throw down if they have to. Harper hates that he's just a tag along since he doesn't actually do any of the fighting, he can only order the military to an area and tell them to engage. Not alot of blood lust there when it's four jets and compared to some of the other guys toys, hand me downs.
Don't think for a moment that doesn't grate on him.

And fear. This guy is so afraid of losing an election, which we all know will just give reason to all those knives waiting in the wings to cut him to ribbons and have their own shot at the title. If he doesn't pander to these kooks, who believe whole heartedly that the best way to reduce crime is to make professional hardcore criminals out of nonviolent criminals. The facts of course show other wise but a Neocon would never allow that to get in the way.

Corrections Canada is doing a fine job, its the courts that need an overhaul. It's unexpected that lawyers are going to screw up a good thing for lawyers now isn't it? The only measure offered there is to take some discretion away from judges with mandatory sentencing {one size fits all} and removing the faint hope clause which offers a carrot to inmates serving life sentence an enticement to behave and change their life.

So "yeah right" isn't much of a rebuttal to anything. Though it does sum up the lack of thought suffered by most of you sheeple who blindly follow the leader.

Ah, you've forgotten (conveniently) that the NDP and Liberals are dumping the Conservative government because they are not spending ENOUGH money.......

I hope that clears it up for ya!

Harper as war-monger?

Oh come on!

Canada has not pulled its weight on the military front since that scumball idiot Trudeau destroyed the armed forces in the seventies. Well, until Afghanistan, that is.........and the Liberals got us into that, but it was the Conservatives that made sure the military had the weapons to fight.........

Otherwise, I actually agree, to an extent.

The Conservative love of mandatory sentencing and the war on drugs is idiotic..............

As for Corrections Canada doing a good job, well.......only if you think serial killers should be provided with victims as a part of their prison "rehabilitation". Look up the news on one inmate named McGray.

It is just that the Conservatives are soooo much better than the alternative in any case...............and it begins to appear there is no alternative if you care for the country.

A coalition including the Bloc is NOT an acceptable alternative.

If you plan on voting Liberal or NDP please challenge your candidate......demand a commitment from the top NOT to include the Bloc in any coalition.

Or the opposition does not want to give the minority government a confidence vote in light of them being found in contempt of parliment.

Harper as war-monger?

Yeah, the same Harper that wanted Canada in Iraq....the war based on lies.

Oh, you mean by an opposition that makes up a majority, and is on the verge of an election.......now that's significant! (NOT!)

Harper wants an election and that is why we are having one, he has put the others
in a position where there is no wiggle room, the only thing he didn't count on was the
contempt of Parliament thing and the advisor escort scandal coming along.
Harper is in trouble, the deficit they ran up is unsustainable and he knows it. The
earthquake in Japan and the Libyan crisis or war, is going to throw the world
economic picture out the window and we are headed once again for one hell of a
recession, Remember it takes about 8 months for the impact of a recession to come
full blown, oh there are sign posts along the way but the crunch comes down the road.
Just like Lyin' Brian and the Tories of old, this group has over spent not so much by
just plain waste which they have engaged in, but the tax cuts they keep handing out to
the corporate benefactors and the upper crust of the country. We can stimulate
through tax cuts but go to far and if anything goes wrong there is not money for anything.
Harper is also in a catch 22 he not only has to win he needs a majority, or the coalition
he has with the fiscal right and the social conservatives will unravel like a ball of twine.
Mind you the opposition needs to win and win a majority or their heads are on the block
also and that is what I think is coming. What a mess and nothing will be solved when
it is over. Oh I forgot, we will have a 300 million dollar bill added to the deficit that
everyone wants including the Tories.

Nah, can't quite aqree with that, I think Harper would be content to carry on with a minority. The happenings in Libya and Japan are out of Harper's control anyway and he'd be foolish to give them much thought. Japan's economic state has been bad for the last 15 or 20 years so if it's a little worse I don't see it being a big deal. It's Ignatieff and Layton who really want the election- not because it can help them much, more because they are basically a couple of sh*t disturbers.

Japan's economy has been excellent prior to the Wall Street gang rape and doing quite well since. It's Japan who is funding A-Stan and Iraq and they have all the contracts to supply the steel to rebuild the Iraq oil infratructure and the steel for the pipelines and industrialization of A-Stan.
