1/6th of the world is Muzzies. The other 5/6 should have easily defeated their votes. Why not? 47 out of 192 leaves 145 non-Muzzie nations.

Didn't the USA vote "NO" in 08 when it came to gay rights?

It's probably because the U.N. operates more like a republic than a democracy. ;)

To correct myself...... In 09 the US finally signed:

(Reuters) - The United States, in a reversal of Bush administration policy, has decided to sign on to a U.N. declaration that calls for the decriminalization of homosexuality, the State Department said on Wednesday.

Isn't Dick's daughter a lesbian?

47 Muslim majority nations out of 192 nations is 24.5%, or one quarter of the world's nations.

Yes, the other three quarters could still have defeated the vote..........but most of them are the scum of the earth. This is what people who pay ANY attention to the UN don't seem to realize.......the majority of nations are NOT free, and to allow this body any influence over your sovereignty, policy, or actions is ludicrous and dangerous.

The scum nations voted for this.

Including China. Gee, we want them to take over REAL soon, don't we?

The coward nations abstained.

Let's not forget that the UN is really not about human rights. Most of its members including two out of the five Security Council members are not democracies. The original UN charter was drawn up at the end of World War II when most of these non-democracies were still under European control or very much inclined to follow the lead of the United States. That has now changed. The best that the rest of the owrld can do is to encourage democratic and equal rights movements in these nations. As some of you have already pointed out, the fact that the US has only recently come on board in terms of gay rights has seriously impeded the spread of gay rights worldwide.

Try to focus....I know it's difficult.

It was mostly Islamic, as I said........41 out of 76 is a majority.....got that now?

The remainder that voted for this, are mostly scumball nations like China, North Korea, etc............you understand?

The USA voted against it...........I know that is hard to deal with, but they did............you're clear on that now, right?

20 months ago the USA signed on to a declaration for the decriminalization of homosexuality....(read that again, make sure you take it in....)...that has nothing to do with capital punishment for homosexuals.

Let me say that again.....the USA has never in any way supported capital punishment for gays.

It requires an odd turn of logic to try and throw blame on a nation that voted against the proposal....when 76 voted for it, and 17 abstained.

Get a life, if you're lucky, a brain will come with it.

The UN like the WTO and a host of other organizations have all out lived their best before date.
I think the time has come to close the doors and cut the costs of running the most and I mean
the most inefficient organization the world has ever seen. The United States of American and
its allies, China, France, Russia and Britain used the UN to recolonize the world decades ago.
Of course it was the only way to control the crazies like those in the Arab world and some parts
of Asia, places of stability like North Korea eh.
Everything could continue to go along as usual but the appeasement of the Muslim World is now
part of the future as the world grovels at the feet of the third world and the new emerging powers.
I don't give a damn whether someone is gay or straight, that alone cannot be used as an excuse
to kill people. If that is the new standard the west must make its exit and stop funding the morons
who run this thing

All this is affair is sad and actually kind of scary.

Paradox, I find it funny that you are shocked by the fact that Commonwealth countries can display homophobic behaviour. As if having a British Queen as Head of State and a past involved in British colonialism was a safeguard against bigotry.

In a sense, I feel that the Queen should make a public statement about this vote and express her opinion clearly. That would at least show her position actually means something.

---

But all monarchic opinions aside, I share your distress and concern about what just happened at the UN Paradox.

I think all the queens in the US and Canada should march on the UN and voice their dismay and concerns. In fact, everybody who supports equal rights should. It would be easy, with that many people, to block any of the clowns who work there from gaining access to the building(s). Then you would have a captive audience.

I'm afraid homophobia is far from dead. It is too bad. The more I hear about stuff like this, the more I question our claim to evolution.

Where they the first to sign on to decriminalize? Both decriminalization and protection from capital punishement no longer exist. Had they been a leader rather than a Johnny Come Lately there could have been more support from the start and the execution angle upheld. If you want to call yourself " a bastion of freedom" it might be a good idea to participate right from the start.

It took nine years and regime change to finally get US to vote yes after the first decrim proposal in 2000.

Good job that Bush could only hang around for 8 years.
If there were no term limits it never would have passed.

That speaks volumes

I always thought the UN was established to solve some of the worlds problems and now it
appears the UN is going to join in becoming part of the problem. We need to understand
the UN is now engaging in determining what the new world morality will be, if they continue
there won't be any morality, and therefore they are nearly successful.
What will be next, because once the gays are gone they will need to find another demon.
Maybe it will be left handed people, or the blind, or perhaps those with diabetes, who will
become the next victim of the UN if these kinds of votes are allowed to stand?
Either the UN steps up to the plate and denounces this latest vote or the civilized countries
of the world should first cut off the funds for all projects and secondly withdraw from the
membership of the organization itself. The UN is a big out of date waste of money and it
should be closed and the building site turned into a park dedicated to progress..

"Good job that Bush could only hang around for 8 years.

Do you mean that if there were no term limits, G.W. Bush would have been elected to a third term?

Seeing who is in the White House now that is perfectly logical.

Bush did appeal to backwards Neanderthals. Blows me away how the Republican rail against Obama when their hero basically tore up the constitution and returned the US to colonial times. "It's just a damn piece of paper!" Yup, life was so much better under that thug.

Precisely.

Cliffy, I thought it was just Petros that was dropped on his head at birth (as so illustrated in his avatar)

For crying out loud, don't encourage him.

I am literally Gobsmacked......the inferiority complex (and I called it that LONG before Wikileaks) among Canadians is astounding. No subject can be spoken of without the Canadians taking some moment to sniff in moral superiority at the USA, whether they have reason, or not. Usually not.

It is a VERY bad joke.

Get real guys.

76 nations voted in support of a motion to remove being gay as a reason to protest capital punishment.

41 out of 47 nations on earth with a majority Muslim population voted in support of the motion. (Gee, guys, maybe it ISN'T only radical Islam that is the problem!)

17 nations abstained.

But somehow, out of the twisted recesses of their so-called minds, the Terrible Triumvirate (Cliffy, Mentalfloss, and Petros) find this in this a reason to start bashing the United States. Not Iran.....who hangs homosexuals, not China, or North Korea, the worst Human Rights abusers on earth who voted for the motion, nor Islam in general, which was the mover and majority supporter of the motion....oh no....not a word!

Time to kick the good old USA.

Which, last time I looked, was a free, democratic nation.

That voted against the motion.

It is just weird.

Seek help Guys.

I'm serious.
