He frittered away all the surplus in giving tax cuts mainly benefiting the rich. Like the GST cut. Soon after he came to office, there was no budget surplus.

That has to be the most ridiculous argument I've seen in a long time. Everyone from the poorest pauper to Jimmy Pattison pays the same G.S.T. so that's one place elimintated- now WHERE did he fritter the money?

No everyone does not. As i mentioned before, the rich billionaire who want to buy a 200,000$ Rolls saves 2000 $ with a 1% GST cut. The single mother on minimum wage saves very little, since most fo her income is spent on essentials, food, rent etc., on which there is no GST.

Income tax cut, along with income tax credit for those who don't pay any income tax, is a much more equitable tax xut.

And as a result of the GST tax cuts, Harper got rid of all the surplus. To me, that is frittering money away. The deficit would have been much lower today it Harper had been running a surplus of 10 to 12 billion $ (as Liberals did) when the Bush meltdown hit us.

How many jobs has the guy who spends $200,000 supported all of which pay income tax which by far offsets any money saved on the G.S.T. Besides the rich guy deserves to save on the G.S.T. and as you pointed out the poor guys doesn't pay a lot anyway, so what would be his bitch? And what's yours? So WHERE did Harper fritter the money away? What he has put back in taxpayers pockets doesn't count - that is a good thing. You should check up on what happened to King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette for talking exactly the way you do.

Liberal phobia and the cause….

Forty-One Posts, in the last day alone have been removed, and several
that had Name-Calling and Personal Attacks where edited.. This Thread
turned into a cesspool of blatant Trolling....and was removed from the
Public View until it could be cleaned up.

Unfortunately....at 42 pages in length....We only made it through the last
day (8 pages at about 25 posts per page on average), so only the last 200
postings. We don't even pretend to have gotten everything...just most of
it from the last day.

This Thread will now be reviewed daily, Reported posts or not. Govern
yourselves accordingly.

That kind of logical thinking only works if you don't consider that tax money is thought of as an entitlement for the government by the Liberals. They think tax cuts are bad because they cut into the ever-increasing government income, and that's required to keep growing so that they (government) can keep "giving" more things to more people. I know, it's a bizarre concept but if you listen carefully to the language used by those who rant and rave so much about government, you'll see the clues. Or maybe I should say the "cluelessness." And that's why the phobia continues to get worse.

I really don't understand why people invest so much time, energy and emotion into something as ludicrous as politics. The same corporations donate to the Libs and Cons. The same corporations spend billions on lobbying whatever party is in power, to get what they want. Really, the difference between the parties is a matter of style. It is all about personalities. It's a freakin' movie to entertain us while the corporations make out like bandits, as was seen by who got the money in Harper's cash out. Did people who were in jeopardy of losing everything get a cent. No! The bozos who screwed up got paid off. I can't believe people get into pissing matches with each other over this crap when it is the banks and corps that are pissing all over you.

Hi Cliffie, as for the Banks and Corporations pissing on the Canadian people, the body who allowed the Banks and Corps to piss on Canadians is the present Government.
YouTube - Canadians Against Proroguing Parliament Toronto Protest

And hey, one can throw the argument that the Liberals did the same thing,

Well ,when it comes to that fine line of equal denigration between the Conservatives and the Liberals, to me the party with better math gets my vote, not how many bones with no meat they throw at me to make me shut up and keep giving them a vote they don’t deserve, but rather the party who will take the peoples business seriously.

So, as long as we have a Government who cares about punishing the Opposition (by unjustified prorogation) rather the fixing problems yes the Banks and Corporations will take advantage of the situation, because the Government has the Banks and Corps in their back pocket.
I am sure you know presently Harper was drilled on You Tube, people asking direct questions why the Conservatives allow Corporations to hire people and fire them SHORTLY AFTER, SO THEY DO NOT HAVE TO PAY BENEFITS.

That is pissing on the people and the Government is allowing them to continue.

Politics must be talked amongst people, that is the only way positive or negative information can become public knowledge so there is always a healthy voter base to insure bad Governments are kept in opposition rather then creating a financial mess that burdens Canadians for decades.

I do not see this engagement trivial , but rather a glance of how close the thieves are to my pocket.
Cheers.

Absolutely right on, Cliff. I was a hard core N.D.P. supporter for 30 years until I finally came to the conclusion they weren't looking after me and secondly they didn't know squat about how money works and thirdly it doesn't matter how much you hurt the wealthy, you are not improving the lot of the common man. As for Libs and Cons over time they are exactly the same thing, sure today I might vote for a Conservative, but that could just as easily change in a week. I might even vote for an N.D.P. if he was the best candidate in my riding and had some smarts................there's a couple of them around - Corky was one, but as a party they suck too. But yeah, Cliff on the whole there's "bigger fish to fry".

When we say 'Liberal phobia', do we mean a phobia of Liberals, or a phobia that Liberals have?

Rereading the initial post, it's fairly obvious the author (a devout Liberal supporter) was concerned about people's fear of the Liberals. He obviously doesn't catch on to the fact that both the Libs and Cons are tarred with the same brush. He wants to make light of the Gun registration (which is b.s.- just more bureaucracy) and the sponsorship scandal (with some justification- THAT had more to do with bureaucrats than politicians). I think the bottom line is we need not fear either party, just keep an eye on the bastards and vote accordingly. One of the more prolific posters and Liberal supporters accuses Harper of frittering money away, but I've continuously asked him for valid examples and so far he's come up with nothing. He claims to be a champion of the poor yet wants to impose more taxes on the electorate. Most of us in conducting our day to day lives don't need Gov't. for the most part and certainly don't need to be dumping money into that bottomless abyss. Anyway Liberals aren't going anywhere soon with the leader they have.

Ye and these idiots are the ones who except the bone or carrot on the stick, even if the giver is a thug and still vote for him or her.
To them the bone or carrot is more important then the principles of their thug MP, woman or a man OF ANY POLITICAL PARTY .

And when a minority Government shuts down the peoples business because they think it is their right , then we got problems LW.

Thanks to Mr Harper I now pay 6% tax but used to pay over 30%. I can make that money anywhere in the world, bring it home and then pay the lowest taxes in the world.

How can that be any good for my country and my countrymen?
