The Pahlavi dynasty was the last stable goverment Iran had. Under the Shah's, anyone could walk the streets anywhere any time they wanted. Granted they were absolute rulers. The National Assembly of Iran, known as the Majlis, convening as a constituent assembly on 12/12/1925, deposed the young Ahmad Shah Qajar, and declared Reza Shah the new monarch of the Imperial State of Iran. In 1935, Reza Shah issued a request to foreign embassies that the country hitherto known as Persia internationally, should also be known by its native name Iran in international arena. They were able to do this because the Qajar dynasty was weakened by Soviet and British occupation. The United States had nothing to do with the establishment of the Pahlavi dynasty. We did however support Mohammad Reza Pahlavi who was overthrown by the Iranian Revolution of 1979.

This is ludicrous.........the USA and Israel are "as corrupt as you can possibly get", while Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Syria "aren't perfect"????????

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HEE HEE HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA gasp that is hilarious! You oughta take that show on the road!

A couple of points:

Canada is a friend of Israel, and the closest ally the United States has.......with mutual defence pacts up the yin-yang. Anything the US is into, we are too.....

It must feel horrible for you, being part of such a corrupt society.

Might I suggest that you do take that show on the road.....go to Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria....live the pure life.......speak out against any and all violations of human rights you see, just as you do here.......see how long you last.

Take one bit of advice though, take your passport, travel with friends, and when the secret police grab you, scream your name and "Canadian" out to passersby.....

SOP for survival in such societies. I hope you are lucky.

You BADLY need an education.

BTW, Palestinians within Israel vote, have their own political parties, have representation in the Knesset, have won Supreme Court decisions.

Compare:
There are no Jews in Saudi Arabia.....they have either been murdered, or had their assets seized and been driven out.

In Iran, there is a small Jewish community, but it lives in fear.....the smart ones fled long ago.

Syria used to have a thriving Jewish community.......all dead or in Israel.

What it comes down to, in Dick and Jane terms, is ....where would you rather live? Israel, or Syria/Saudi/Iran?????? Then guess who is on the right side.

And all the Arabs have to do to have peace is stop shooting at Jews. Take back their land, most of which Israel would be absolutely THRILLED to return. They have tried.......

I'm not going to live in a theocratic country when I despise religion.

You watch Fox news too much and think the U.S.A/Canada are democratic countries. What kind of half-wit mongoloid even disputes the fact that the U.S government is completely corrupt? Someone who watches too much CNN/Fox News and reads Ann Coulter's awfully stupid and goofy books, I would imagine.

You've been ironic far too much in your statements that it's a little frightening rather than funny now. But I'm still laughing hardily at the Israel being an island of sanity comment.

As far as Jewish being treated horribly in the Arabic countries, you don't think this is in response to how Israel has treated the Arabs?

By the way where are you getting your information, Zionism-Israel.com or something? Palestinians without a doubt are treated like second class citizens by the majority of Israelis and there have been numerous news reports that Israel has tried to demolish their right to vote.

:-?MHZ - I am not good at multi quotes so you will have to bear with meQuoting Kakato

At least if your going to slam a country you could be fair and show what the other ones have going for them but I wont hold my breath. You only have a single agenda and thats bad USA.No other country is claiming a moral high ground. Even Canada bowed out of an international human rights conference, says a lot for us doesn't it, that we did it at the request of the US shows us to be nothing but a puppet, not that is was truly a secret anyway.

That conference was the same as the 1st held in South Africa - Israel bashing - Now why not take a look at the UN Commission on Human Rights - controlled by Arabs, China etc - they ignore everything but Israel - Israel is at the top of the list on everything that this commission has published - you would think that there are no problems in the Sudan, Yemen, Somalia, Kenya - Saudi Arabia - Iran - Sri Lanka - Eastern Europe - The whole bloc of Stans - Armenia - No sirree - Israel is the cause of every fraking problem in the world - Yet you wanted Canada to attend - Why - the outcome has been pre determined -
Quoting Kakato

I should dig up the list of monetary and humanitarian donations the USA has made to all those countries on MHz's list.It is staggering but I wont let that get in the way of MHz's hatefest..........yet.How many of those 'gifts' were 'string free', not a single one except those 'very expensive gifts to Israel so don't forget to make that your first on the list since they are also the largest?

MHZ
Aid comes with strings - Is that a surprise - Perhaps you should check on the aid China is providing to certain murderous regimes in Africa - Better yet - The UN Human Rights commission should take a tour.

So, you would never live in a theocracy....OK.......between Syria and Israel......both secular nations.....which one do you prefer? Careful, research your answer, because if you say "Syria", I'm gonna ram it straight up your arse, figuratively speaking.......:)

Just a second.......are not Israel's enemies theocracies? Iran, Saudi Arabia? And the secular nations Israel is at PEACE with Jordan (a moderate nation) and with Egypt. Lebanon is a nation on the brink of lunacy(thanks largely to Hezbollah, puppet of Iran).....and Syria is one of the worst human rights abusers on earth.......Israel is an island of sanity....

Arabs are treated like second-class citizens in Israel........and that is not right. But the simple fact of the matter is that Arabs in Israel are better off than many Arabs in Arab states.......like it or not.

And yes, there have been attempts to remove the Arab right to vote.......and they have all FAILED because Israel is a nation of rule-of-law. Arab rights have been upheld and protected by the Israeli Supreme Court.

Indeed, the Arab Bedouin even fight for the Israelis.........

None of Israel's neighbors are currently committing crimes against humanity. None of Israel's neighbors block food and medicine from reaching the hungry and sick.

Apartheid South Africa was also a "democracy" and "rule of law" nation, just like Zionist Israel.

Civil rights group: Israel has reached new heights of racism

By Yuval Yoaz and Jack Khoury, Haaretz Correspondents

Racism against Israel's Arab citizens has dramatically increased in the past year, including a 26 percent rise in anti-Arab incidents, according to the Association for Civil Rights in Israel's annual report.

Author Sami Michael, the association's president, said upon the release of the report that racism was so rife it was damaging civil liberty in Israel.

"Israeli society is reaching new heights of racism that damages freedom of expression and privacy," Michael said. The publication coincides with Human Rights Week, which begins Sunday.

"We are a society under supervision under a democratic regime whose institutions are being undermined and which confers a different status to residents in the center of the country and in the periphery," Michael said.

The number of Jews expressing feelings of hatred toward Arabs has doubled, the report stated.

According to the June 2007 Democracy Index of the Israel Democracy Institute, for example, only half the public believes that Jews and Arabs must have full equal rights.

Among Jewish respondents, 55 percent support the idea that the state should encourage Arab emigration from Israel and 78 percent oppose the inclusion of Arab political parties in the government. According to a Haifa University study, 74 percent of Jewish youths in Israel think that Arabs are "unclean."

The ACRI says that bills introduced in the Knesset contribute to delegitimize the country's Arab citizens, such as ones that would link the right to vote and receive state allowances to military or national service.

They also include bills that require ministers and MKs to swear allegiance to a Jewish state and those that set aside 13 percent of all state lands owned by the Jewish National Fund for Jews only.

"Arab citizens are frequently subject to ridicule at the airports," the report states.

It says that Arab citizens "are subject to 'racial profiling' that classifies them as a security threat. The government also threatens the freedom of expression of Arab journalists by brandishing the whip of economic boycott and ending the publication of government announcements in newspapers that criticize its policy."

Hadash Chairman MK Mohammad Barakeh said that the report "did not take us by surprise and neither should anyone be surprised by it. Its results are the natural consequence of a racist campaign led by political and military leaders, as well as the result of the anti-Arab racist policies implemented by consecutive governments."

Evidence with references please.
Standard Oil had an exclusive contract to supply Germany's military. G.W. Bush's grandpappy financed a lot of Hitler's activities. You would need a couple of volumes to see the whole story. If you are really interested, Google America's support of Hitler. Time Magazine even named Hitler as Man of the Year on one or two occasions.

Lebanon is a nation on the brink of lunacy(thanks largely to Hezbollah, puppet of Iran).....and Syria is one of the worst human rights abusers on earth.......Israel is an island of sanity....

Uh...what?! Lebanon is under constant threat of aggression by Israel and Syria (their reasons are expansionist, not political). Hezbollah has answered illegal Israeli attacks with some rocket fire and kidnapped some Israelis in reaction to constant kidnappings of Lebanese by Israel. They are supported by the population because unlike their own corrupt army, they oppose Israeli aggression the worst example being such a triviality as the 1982 US-supported Israeli invasion that destroyed half the country.

"Worst human rights abusers on earth"?! I don't see where you're getting that. Consult Amnesty's stats on the region to see who gets first place in that department (clue: indiscriminate bombing of civilians counts as a human rights violation).

Israel may be doing well at some levels but is hardly "an island of sanity." Their political system is corrupted by deeply embedded right-wing interests, as is the IDF.

Should Iran have nukes? No. But then, nobody should. Iran does have a legal right to develop them.

Consider some facts before you vote:

* Iran offered to negotiate nuclear issues, among other outstanding issues with the US. The US refused. (Later US "negotiation" offers were basically, 'do as we say, then we'll negotiate.')

* Iran is the only country in the world to accept IAEA proposals to place fissile materials under international control (intended to ensure use for peaceful purposes).

* Iran (i.e. Khemanei, not Ahmadinejad--the bull****ter who people here love to make out like he's calling the shots) accepts the international consensus on the Israeli-Palestine two-state solution. The only opponents to resolution? You guessed it: Israel and the US.

The fact is that Iran has committed far fewer violations of international law than either Israel or the US.

Israel has the nuclear capacity to wipe out half the Arab world. Iran doesn't even have the technology with which to deliver a single nuke to Israel, let alone the US. (That's of course assuming Iran's regime is made up of suicidal lunatics and would even consider that course of action for anything less than a credible deterrent to an imminent nuclear threat to its own territory.)

Understand that this is not in support of Iran's regime (a regime worthy of the factual condemnation it receives and Iranians themselves would love to see it go). This is to clarify that Iran is not the war-mongering, kill-all-heretics crackpot state it has been made out to be around these parts and neither Israel nor the United States are in any position to dictate terms to Iran on legal grounds.

Some of you have to get this straight, we do what is best for Americans, If you happen to prosper from it be thankful.

Which Americans might you be referring to? The millions that are so dirt poor that they can't even provide their families with the basic necessities? Or perhaps you're referring to the soldiers that have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan so a few people in the US and elsewhere can up their profits?

But yes, oligarchies in all the various countries Uncle Sam meddled in have prospered immensely...much to the disadvantage, if not outright misery of their fellow citizens.

I'm sure all the hundreds of thousands of victims of the various dictators you have helped put into power or actively supported would agree.

First of all, it is COLPY, not Colby......my handle is a deriviative of my last name, not a name in itself.

Secondly, please point out an error in fact in my post. The Arab Bedouin do fight for the Israelis. Israeli Arabs do vote, and have elected members in the Knesset. Israel is a secular nation. Israeli Arabs are better off than many of their Arab brothers living in say....Syria or Egypt.

Israel is far from perfect, and far from treating Israeli Arabs as equals.......but it is a relative thing.......

To say Israel is like Apartheit South Africa when Israeli Arabs have proportional representation in the Knesset, and when they win Supreme Court decisions is a little disingenuous....:).....but it has at least some foundation in reality.

To compare Israel to Nazi Germany is ludicrous, completely idiotic, and shows a lack of knowledge of the subject at hand. Nazi Germany murdered 6 million Jews, one third of the world Jewish population..........I might point out that if Israel were only half as evil as the Nazis......there would be no Palestinians in Israel, the West Bank or Gaza.

Get serious.

Once again, in 60 years of almost constant war, the Israelis have not killed 100,000 Arabs, in combat or out.

In 6 years, the Nazis killed at least 30 million people, 10 million in genocidal murder, 6 million of them Jews.

If the Israelis were Nazis, there would not be a ME problem. The Arab Israelis, and the entire population of the West Bank and Gaza would be dead.

Get serious.

How about engaging in a little serious debate, instead of throwing innuendo and dumb-ass, meaningless comments without any foundation in reality? Are you capable????

The Arabs are their own worst enemy - This has been shown in numerous studies by a committee solely formed of Arabs by Arabs - they studied education, free expression, economics, science, economy etc - The leadership of each country studied literally hold their citizens in a form of bondage - Many Arab nations are still stuck in the 12th centiry - why - blind religious belief - hatred and dreams of resurrecting the Arab Empire - Israel is the bogeyman - Shia despise Sunni who despise Shia - If Arabs wanted peace it is available - How many Palestinians from the so called refugee camps were settled in the West - How many did Arab contries take inThe Arab world has hijacked the UN human Right Commission - Isreal has had more condemnation than all other countries combined - Why - Look to the make up of nations involved - What have they done about Sudan - Why do they persecute people of other faiths - Many educated Arabs realize this - but you do not -

That's great. As true as it may be , a bit off topic no? I'm talking about the specific conflict with the Palestinians not the entire Arab world.

Yes, but it's closely related.
The way I see it is that various factions of the Middle East simply don't want Israelis as neighbors. It's almost entirely brought about by the thing between religions.

Genocide is a ridiculous thing to say because if genocide of the Palestinians by the Israelis were true, the Palestinians living in Israel would be the first to go.

I don't even closely defend Israel's actions, but then I don't think the other side has any room to gripe either. Both sides are nutbars and the relatively innocent civilians on both sides suffer for it.

Yes I agree with this.

Genocide is a ridiculous thing to say because if genocide of the Palestinians by the Israelis were true, the Palestinians living in Israel would be the first to go.

Again I may be exaggerating a bit ,but the statistic shows that in the Gaza war 109 Palestinians dead for every 1 Israeli. Hardly seems like a war, more like a mass slaughter of Palestinians.
