I think the majority of the anti Burka posts in here are made by Xenophobic post 9/11 truma victims .

if any of you actually studied the Islamic religion it states that a woman should cover herself modestly ,the wearing of a burka is purely voluntary,i also would like to point out to the idiot that said how will there own children recognize their own mother when only seeing her for 1/4 of their life,That they do not wear the Burka when in the safety or confines of there own house you moron

Missile, the objection here is not to lose fitting garments, but only to burka, the covering of face. Even if France bans burka, loose fitting garments will still be permitted.

So your objection does not make sense. Even if burka is banned, somebody could still hide plenty of explosives under loose fitting garments. As long as the garment doesn’t cover the face, leaves the face exposed, there is no problem.

Yet we have signs here immigrants are getting too aggressive in bringing their culture to Canada. Why come to Canada if you don't want to become Canadian?

And what is wrong with immigrants bringing their culture to Canada? It adds more colour, more diversity to Canadian society and it should be welcome. I for one wouldn’t want to go back to the lily white, homogenous country of 50 or 100 years ago.

At the same time, their culture must obey our laws, the Charter and the constitution. However, provided it doesn’t come into conflict with any of these, I think every attempt should be made to accommodate their culture in the mainstream.

Back in the 30's when we had the Scots wanting to wear their kilts in the city, we got the teens to harass them, rough em' up bit... the 80's the turbin was removed...

I saw two women wearing burkas today in a mall and I do not like them, but they are few in number so they are okay.

Immigrants bring their culture to Canada when they move here, they can't help it because they don't become Canadians overnight, some times not ever. I couldn't become Japanese or Italian if I moved to those countries, ever.

Size matters, numbers matter. There is a difference in allowing people to be themselves when they move to Canada and those who want to work the system and use tax dollars to maintain their culture.

He wanted to fund all kinds of religious schools, including Islamic Madrasaas. He got a lot of flak for that. Liberals would probably have won anyway. However, because of the nutty position adopted by Tory, Liberals ended up with an increased majority in the provincial assembly.

I was reading this in the local newspapers recently how parents want Chinese to be taught in schools in Metro Vancouver. I'm not against learning another language, but there are other priorities such as remedial classes for students who want to go to university, or heaven forbid, keeping taxes down.

I never heard that about John Tory, good thing he lost. This is just appeasing minorities too much. Minorities and the wealthy make an uncoordinated attack on the public school system by keeping their kids out of it. The public school system is one of the cornerstones of democracy.

In BC, the Campbell Liberals starve schools of funds because they want privatization here. My sister is constantly getting requests from her kids to buy more stuff at school and hold endless fundraising events. Money should be taken away from religious/independent schools and put into public school libraries.

France is a Christian country and a democracy. Both of these charaterisics do not comply with the Muslim faith.
Muslims should stay in the countries they built. You don't see Christians wanting to immigrate to Muslim countries.
Muslims are always looking for somebody to look after them. Just look at who is doing all the actual work in the oil producing middle eastern countries!!

Just a little info. There was report a while back that a school in Massachusetts sent permission slips home with the students. They need parental permission for the students in order for them to say the Pledge in the classroom. (No Joking) Are you angry enough to write to your state representative? Or are you going to be passive and let this country go down in history as the greatest country in the world who lost its glory and splendor because Americans became apathetic or had too many other things to

It is common practice here in Canada the school kids of Muslim faith will not sing OCanada or God Save the Q in schools because there Muslim parents forbid them to do so.
This is even they have pleadged alliance to the Queen to get their citizenship, but now they have it, it's back to their believes!!
The teachers in these schools protect these students from this becoming too public. I think it happened to get in public in Sask. and they try to keep it a low profile in other schools.
